TBA Upfront Presentation
TBA is no longer TBA…it’s here!
TBA…this IS your Dad’s TV network…
Network management has seen a niche to provide quality programming that appeals primarily to males 25-40, along with several secondary demographics. We will go against the grain, against the overcrowded space of teen targeted shows, reality shows, and shows about the too common themes of counter-terrorism and forensic detectives.
The mix of shows between drama, comedy, reality, etc is not what we have focused on when selecting shows for the fall line-up. Instead we gave the greenlight to the shows that we and our test audiences liked the best. And yes we admit, there is a vanity project or two on the fall schedule.
So, without further adieu, welcome to TBA’s 2006-2007 Prime Time line-up.
Sunday:
7:00pm American Family (variety/family)
8:00pm Freaky Links (drama/paranormal)
9:00pm Crotoan (drama/historical-mystery)
10:00pm DragonLance (action/fantasy)
Series Details;
American Family: Driven by best selling author Stephen Covey the author of "7 Habits for Highly Effective Families" amongst other top selling business books.
This is a weekly show for the whole family to watch. It's intended as a "check-in" to help families focus their time and efforts on what is important in their lives. Tips on how to resolve disputes, save money, home safety, fast and effective exercise routines for the week, quick finances, family activities, quick but delicious recipes, and yes the occasional preachy lesson on being an effective family. Have pen and paper in hand, this show is a must see for the whole family.
Freaky Links: The former Fox show will see new life on TBA. Derek Barnes runs the Freakylinks.com website, which he took over when his twin brother, Adam, committed suicide. The website is dedicated to uncovering the hidden and often dark and scary truths behind urban legends and the paranormal.
After receiving strange messages related to Adam, Derek begins to search for clues to how and why his brother died. He and the Freakylinks team investigate the reasons behind Adam's death while hunting down stories for the website, and their weekly exploits bring them in contact with the "weird, the unusual, the occult, the paranormal, and the just plain silly".
Crotoan; Based on the sketchy details of the lost colony of Roanoke. In 1857 John White led a group of almost 200 men, women, and children to the new world, specifically to what is now Roanoke, Virginia. White watches as his newly founded colony at Roanoke slowly disappears from site. He stops waving good bye to his daughter, and new born grandaughter. He will return in spring with the necessary supplies and rations.
But he doesn't.
Legend tells us that he was delayed because of war between England and Spain. Legend tells us that he returned three years later and despite leaving clues as to their whereabouts the lost colony was never found.
What then of the reports of blue eyed children amongst the natives?
What then of John White's sudden disappearance from public?
Why was John White, the Govenor of all people, selected to be sent back to England for supplies?
What do the legends hide?
Several years later an acquaintance of White’s in England receives the final communication ever from the mysterious man; a sort of purging of the soul.
This historically based limited series follows that man’s search for the truth, a search which ends upon his death but is picked up almost 400 years later by his decedent, a feisty and determined College sophomore. Transport back and forth from the days of the colonialists, the missions that came before them and sealed their fate, and the 4 century search for truth; all along the way dogged by the eerie appearances of a ghostly child believed to be Virginia Dare.
“Because history should not have multiple endings”
DragonLance: Dragons were just creatures of legend in the World of Krynn. Stories told to frighten children. But now dragons have returned, bringing with them darkness, war, and destruction.
Hope appears in a beautiful Barbarian woman's hands - a blue crystal staff. But true hope lies with a group of old friends, reunited after years apart. Together this odd lot will begin a perilous quest for the legendary Dragonlance.

8:00pm Shutterbugs (sit-com)
8:30pm Just Mike (sit-com)
9:00pm Twang! (sit-com)
9:30pm Strange Sports (sports/paranormal)
***mid-season replacement: The Drive-In (sit-com)
10:00pm E.K. (drama/coming-of-age)
Series Details;
Shutterbugs: a college freshman (Brady) who had been editor of his high school newspaper takes a position as a photographer at his college's school newspaper (The Voice). No longer the bastion of free speech it once was, the freshman struggles to get the real message out. The paper is run by right wing students led by their editor (Maggie). The reporters are all there for their "face" value not what is in their heads. The photographers are the real heroes, a group of misfits and nerds (including Austin, Kate, & Tiffany) who really just needed a leader to rally behind. Watch as our heroes try to covertly steer the direction of the paper by using their wits and manipulating the airhead reporters they are assigned to "assist".
Just Mike: From Paul Simms, the creator of NewsRadio.
Mike has done well in life. He is an executive in a small company, has a lovely wife and children, and is well respected in the community where he grew up, and still resides. But to his life long friends, an eclectic collection of guys who refuse to grow up, he is simply Mike. The episodes mix retro stories of when they were kids with current situations they seem to drag themselves in and out of.
Twang!: A rocker (Jesse Traylor) bets his agent and friend (Jonny Kleimo) that he could make it as a country and western singer because any idiot can sing about dead dogs, broken down trucks, and cheating wives. And that's just what he does. Along the way things get complicated however by strange fans, a new love interest (Jessica Jaggs), radio executives, a singing rival, and the tabloids.
Strange Sports: A different story of the improbable, unexplainable, and plot twisting variety in each episode. The show uses an old fashioned comic book motif and transitions.
The Drive In: One fateful morning our star (Josh) arrives 9 minutes late for work at an accounting firm due to circumstances beyond his control during his drive in. Already having received a written warning for tardiness in the past, he is fired by his boss (Whitey). Each episode of this show is our star reliving that morning's drive in to work in a vain attempt to arrive on time, having to overcome the incredible kinds of obstacles that can only occur to us in a state of dreaming. Some reoccurring characters such as a corrupt cop as well as a neurotic radio dj seem to be "hip" to the reoccurring nature of the task; one trying to help him, the other to hinder.
E.K.: The series follows a group of seven friends as they grow up in a working class neighborhood in the 80's. They deal with pressures of parents, broken families, gangs, drugs, girls, and school. The only thing they have keeping them together is each other, and the secret world of Dungeons and Dragons which they use as a frequent escape from reality.
The shows concept and ideas were produced by CEO M.It Besler, and he brought in adolescent 80's power writers S.E. Hinton (Outsiders, Rumble Fish, Tex, etc) along with Frank Bonham (Durango Street) to help him bring it to life. For extra nostalgia purposes lots of 80's news footage and pop culture has been sprinkled into the mix.
Tuesday:
8:00pm Fortune’s Son (drama/financial)
9:00pm Houdini (drama/paranormal)
10:00pm Manhunter (drama/crime)
Fortune’s Son: Drama set in the financial world. A family owned and run investment boutique (Walsh Financial Management – WFM) is passed down from father (Jonas) to son (Carlyle) upon the patriarch's death.
On his first day in office his firm is investigated by the FBI and IRS for connections to the Russian mob and money laundering, most of the clients flee the firm, his black sheep brother Mason who is barred from trading pops up back in his life, and the CFO throws himself through the window of the office building falling to his death.
Carlyle with help from Mason and his college enrolled sister Allison must turn things around in a hurry or face losing the family firm and fortune.
Houdini: The greatest illusionist and magician in history Harry Houdini was famous back in the 1920's for his ability to debunk fraudulent claims of the paranormal. Houdini also promised before his death that if it was possible to make contact from the other side he would do so. Like a true magician the circumstances surrounding his death left many questions unanswered and was shrouded in mystery. A mystery that time forgot.
Until now.
Harry has made contact, and the world will never be the same again.
Manhunter: FBI agent (Paul Brooks) follows the nation's most baffling murder cases. In order to find the killer he must know the perpetrator inside and out. The problem is that every time he steps into that world he comes one step closer to not being able to step back out again. With a psych and violent history of his own he is considered a ticking time bomb by the department, to be used only when absolutely required. He's tolerated as long as he produces results, but he fears that if he ever fails, or steps over that line that he will be dealt with by the bureau - permanently.
Wednesday:
8:00pm American Chronicles (variety)
9:00pm TBA Movie Night (movie)
