Episode Guide - Season 1
1.01 - "Spy Stuff" Summary; Carlyle receives the life changing news that his father has passed away and he is the new CEO of Walsh Financial Management. His first day back in the office however does not go smoothly, as the FBI begins an investigation of the firm, he discovers his father's office was bugged, his black sheep brother re-enters his life, and his CFO may be covering up illegal activities.
Detailed; "Spy Stuff" 0:00-2:00 The opening scene shows our lead Carlyle Walsh lying in bed alone, tossing and turning. It’s a dream sequence, as he remembers in washed out colors his father Jonas Walsh teaching him to swim off of their small fishing boat. The father is encouraging the son to swim to the boat, just a few more strokes son. The boy puts his head down and swims so hard, finally his fingers reach the edge of the boat. He pulls himself out of the water, wipes off his eyes, and when he looks into the boat..his father is gone. He stares at the empty boat as it rocks in the waves. A phone rings, and Carlye is broken out of his dream. His white sheets stick to his sweaty body despite the strong breeze that blows in his apartment window. He answers the phone for some reason “Dad?”. “Sorry I thought…WHAT?...WHEN?...oh my god…NO. Are you okay [pause], what happened [pause]. Where is he now? Are you sure you are okay?[pause]. I’ll be there on the first plane..i insist…no, don’t do that…well I’ll talk to you soon. [pause] Yeah, I love you too Allison.” After hanging up the phone Carlyle whispers to himself “I can’t believe he’s gone”. The wind blows in, rattling the pictures on the wall. One is of a teenage Carlye on a fishing trip with his father (from the boat), and another teenager.
2:00-2:30 Opening credits – see cast
2:30-6:00 Caption [30 hours later] Carlye is in the office having a meeting with two men George Griffin the Chief Financial Officer, and Barrett Steadings the Sales Manager. On the back wall are the initials of the firm WFM and the name Walsh Financial Management. Both men shake Carlyle’s hand and offer platitudes about how great a man his father was. Sitting down and getting to business Carlyle informs them that he wants to see both men continue in their current positions and continue to make WFM the strong Wall Street boutique institution it has become. They look relieved. He says he will be stepping into his father’s shoes, but would drown (this word makes him stop thinking of the dream, and the other men exchange a worried glance). Carlyle recovers and finishes the metaphor. They stand and shake hands, and Carlyle reminds them the memorial service will be tomorrow. George asks about the body. Carlyle says it’s the family wishes to go ahead without the body. Allison is taking care of arrangements of bringing back the body, but even though Barbados is quite an advanced nation its still a bit dicey as to when the body will arrive. Barrett (obviously the more emotionally aware of the two senior execs) asks how Allison is holding up (quite well, according to Carlyle) and Barrett asks if she will be able to make it in from Boston U. for the service (Carlyle assures him he will be there). Again George seems to put his foot in his mouth and asks if Mason will be there. After a pause Carlyle says he’s having trouble getting a number for his brother. They offer their help in any way.
6:00-7:30 A short scene in the boardroom where Carlyle signs some papers provided by the firm’s in house lawyer that make him the new CEO of WFM.
7:30-9:30 Carlyle walks down the hall and we see two large men in blue coveralls carrying plants, and a filing cabinet across the hall. A secretary informs “Mr.Walsh” that the move should be completed by the end of the day. She apologizes that it isn’t done yet, and then apologizes again about not having offered her condolences first instead. She looks flustered so Carlyle fixes her with a smile and tells her to relax. His father thought the world of her, her confidences, and her ability, and he would hope that over time he could earn her trust the way his father did.
9:30-14:00 Memorial service inside the church. The Minister gives a short speech on how Jonas Walsh was a rags to riches story, not just in wealth but in spirituality, having overcome a rough start to life. He talked of high business morals and standards, and a Christian work ethic. A eulogy was given by George. Allison is sitting beside her brother Carlyle and asks about the choice of George for this, considering Dad thought he was a weasel. Carlyle almost laughs, but says that Barrett while more likeable might drop some words to make the minister blush. As Carlyle looks around he notices a rather G.I. looking man standing in the back, wearing a black suit, white shirt, black tie, and of course sunglasses inside the church. He gets a good look at the man, but after being distracted by something Allison says, he turns back and the man is gone. Afterwards a few hand shakes, CEO’s of companies, rich debutants, and one asks about Mason. Carlyle says his brother wishes he could be here but couldn’t get into the country in time. Allison gives him a playful kick to the back of the calf.
14:00-16:00 Still inside the church, only a few people remain to chat, Carlyle takes a phone call. He “uhums” a lot and then “I’ll be there in 15 minutes. He rallies George and Barrett, whispering in their ears something that seems to give them panic. Allison asks what is wrong, but Carlyle says he will call her when he gets back to the office. He reminds her she has a plane to catch back to Boston. They hug goodbye. Allison makes him promise to keep trying to reach Mason, which he does.
16:00-20:30 Back in the office the secretary and several others are all in a big uproar. Three men are presently occupying the CEO’s office where Carlyle’s’ things had been moved from across the hall. Introductions are made between George, Barrett, Carlyle, two FBI Agents and an IRS agent (who barely looks up from his books). The secretary insists they move across the hall to Carlyle’s old office but the new boss tells her its okay, he’ll make due. The lead agent Woods has a private meeting with Carlyle (and the in house Lawyer). At first Carlyle lets Woods have it, about showing up today of all days when the firm is healing etc. But Woods is nice, offers his condolences, and says that he wishes he could postpone. He tells Carlyle that there had been an open investigation going on about Jonas and WFM, and now with his untimely demise they had no choice but to move in. Carlyle wants to know more about the investigation but all that Woods will tell him at this point is that WFM seems to be the common link in some money laundering schemes between many WFM clients and the mob in Russia, and some surrounding Eastern European countries. The clients may have been acting as fronts for illegitimate businesses. At this point they are there to find out what role WFM played, or whether they were innocently duped. Carlyle says he will help in any way he can (this is attempted to be nixed by his lawyer), and to speak to him if anyone is not co-operating. Carlyle tells Woods he just wants him out of there ASAP. Between his fathers’ death and the investigation it won’t be too long until the sharks smell the blood in the water.
20:30-23:00 Sitting alone in his office, his head in his hands. He has another memory of his father walking him down that hallway on his first day on the job at WFM. He introduces him to everyone and then when young college graduate Carlyle asks where his office is, Jonas lets out a belting laugh, and tells him that for the time being he will be sharing the mail room with Daniel. He warns Carlyle not to drink any open beverages that have been left around Daniel, and to refrain from wearing the color yellow to work. He laughs some more. A knocking on the door wakes Carlyle from his thoughts. One of the blue clad maintenance men is there and closes the door. He tells Carlyle that he thought he should bring this to him personally, and lays down some small black electronic device on his desk. Upon being asked the man says it’s a “surveillance bug” of course. He tells the CEO that he found it attached to the back of one of his fathers’ filing cabinets and it looks fairly new and operative. Carlyle looks alarmed but the man says not to worry he diabled it. After getting a quizzical stare the man tells Carlyle that he has a friend in “the business” and gives him a business card. Carlyle thanks the man and asks if anyone else knows (no), and asks that he keep it that way. When the man says that’s good advice, and Carlyle asks why, he whispers “you can’t trust anyone in here”.
23:00-25:30 Carlyle has a meeting with George the CFO to see if he knows anything about this Russian mob business. George looks nervous but says he never heard anything and it must be just some bad coincidences.
25:30-28:30 Allison calls Carlyle back after landing. He tells her about the IRS (but not the FBI) and says its fairly routine stuff considering they are a financial institution. They talk about Mason (turns out he is the older brother, kicked out of the firm for some shady deals, is a lair and a cheat). It is revealed that each of the 3 children have the opportunity to buy into the firm for $20million but that the $20million must be given to charities. Carlyle obviously has made his buy-in, Allison intends to out of the rest of her share of Dad’s will. They both seem to hope that Mason is not found before the 180 day window has passed on the buy-in opportunity.
28:30-32:30 Carlyle goes for a walk from the office, hops in a cab. He heads to the “Spy Stuff” from the card he was given by the maintenance man. The store proprietor is pretty much the kind of guy you would expect to run a spy store; a mixture of flare and European style, with a touch of nerdynesss thrown in. Carlyle gives him the rundown on the bug and the maintenance man. The owner tells him he’ll check it out, to come back in a couple of days.
32:30-36:00 Phone rings as soon as Carlye leaves the store. It’s Mason. Mason congratulates his brother on the CEO job says he wishes he could be there for pops funeral. Carlyle tells him to come to the family only viewing of the body when it arrives but Mason says he can’t. This creates a short yelling match between the two about responsibility. Mason breaks it off. He becomes somber (at this point we have only heard his voice, not seen him). He tells his brother that he loves him, misses him, and says goodbye. Carlyle seems shocked. He reiterates to come to the viewing but Mason says he doesn’t think he will be able to make it. They hang up. We cut to a small yacht out on the ocean. We see Mason hanging up a cell phone, a gun being held to his head by a mobster. In a thick Russian? accent the mobster says that was touching, but now its time to die.
36:00-37:00 A brief scene showing the FBI and IRS agents putting together some case files. Finding some common links in the client files that they were looking for. The IRS agent pronounces guilt, while Agent Woods just keeps looking.
37:00-41:00 The secretary calls Carlye to the front as one of the biggest clients has just showed up for an appointment with Jonas. It’s the owner and CEO of a New Zealand based communications firm (TV stations, radio, newspaper etc) as he tells Carlyle. He knows about Jonas and offers his condolences as he was too late to make the memorial service. They play some shuffling to keep the NZ CEO from seeing the GI men. They talk business and how WFM was a long time lender and how they were doing some equity deals on new media; internet stuff. Both George and Barrett are brought in for the meeting. They all agree to increase the pace on the deal to try and bring some positive news to the firm.
41:00-43:00 Unfortuantely the client bumps into Woods and the IRS guy in the hallway. The IRS guy pretty much spills the beans and tries to find out more from the NZ CEO about Russian connections. Woods helps Carllye handle the situation, and they manage to calm down the NZ exec. All is rosey once again as he leaves.
43:00-47:30 Carlyle retreats to the boardroom. There is a great view overlooking the city. He has another memory of his father showing him this view when he was a child and then playing finger football across the long expanse of the boardroom table, the two laughing long and hard. Jonas says it only took 5 years to build the firm big enough for these offices, and one day it will belong to his children. How happy it would make him for all 3 to work for him one day (but your sister may be too free spirited for that – just like her Mother). He flips to another memory of possibly a few years ago. His mother is dying at home in a hospital bed from breast cancer. His father tells his children how family is more important than money. A voice behind him jars him out of his memories. It’s Barrett with a couple of Scotch and waters in hand. Carlye notes his father’s favourite drink. They look out the window together solemly. Barrett suddenly laughs drawing a look from the CEO. He says, sorry but you know just thinking that this may be the world’s worst first day ever in a new position. Carlyle laughs too and responds, obviously you have never worked for Daniel in the mail room. Both men laugh. Barrett turns on the TV in the boardroom. Archie Hammon’s show about inside Wall Street titled “For My Money” is on and they are talking about WFM. Of course everyone knows about the unfortunate death of Jonas Walsh, but there’s more to this story. Archie says he has just received an anonymous phone call from a WFM employee that the IRS and FBI are currently in the building, investigating WFM for wrong doing. Carlyle and Barrett go ballistic, then settle down to hear more. Archie says that as if the change in ownership isn’t bad enough this news will have clients jumping ship faster then a Bre-X engineer. Further to leadership, Archie goes back to the topic, he lambastes Carlyle as being a shadow of his father. The TV host says Carlyle has never worked an honest day in his life, was born with a silver sthingy in his mouth, and has all the personality of a Cleveland winter night. Archie claims that WFM would have been better off even if Jonas had left his company to his eldest son Mason, who although a liar, cheat, and screw-up is at least a dealmaker. Archie says that of course Carlyle is welcome to come on to “For My Money” any time he wishes to refute the allegations. Barrett says “fat chance” and turns off the TV. He offers a toast to Jonas and he and Carlyle tinkle glasses and then down their drinks. ~Sound of breaking glass~ Looking out the window they see a body plummeting from the building, down, and down towards a limo. A man is standing on the street ready to get into the limo (it’s the NZ exec). The body lands squarely on the hood of the limo, the horn blasts etc. Barrett looks at Carlyle and says no I think this is worse then the mail room. Panic voices come from the hall and then the secretary pokes her head into the boardroom and says “come quick sirs, its George..I think he’s fallen”.

1.02 - "Urcrazium" Summary: Carlyle tries to stop the mass exodus of clients due to the FBI investigation and the loss of his father and CFO. While Carlyle tries to put a new deal together and appear on a financial TV show to try and get the message out, he must deal with his brother Mason's sudden appearance in a Carribean hospital.
Detailed; 0:00-1:00 [Review of last show]
1:00-2:30 Caption [Two Days Later] Carlyle walks into the office, and the phones are ringing off the hook, there are files everywhere, and associates running around. The young CEO yells (to be heard) at the receptionist “What’s the damage look like today?”. She shuffles through some faxes and responds “pretty bad”. “Why whose jumped ship now?” “Dyson’s Sporting Goods, IWG Robotics, Jacobsen Distillers, The Great Coaster company..” “We deal with roller coasters?” “No, drink coasters.” “Oh. Who else?” “The Lawyer” “What Lawyers?” “Your lawyer, in-house. Suddenly he has found a new job.” “Great.” Carlyle walking away singing Warren Zevon's “send Lawyers, guns, and money…the stuff has hit the fan”
2:30-3:30 Opening credits – see cast
3:30-5:30 Executive meeting in the boardroom. It’s Carlyle, Barrett, and some nervous looking accountant who is welcomed as the new temporary CFO until “a more seasoned replacement can be found”. They talk about losing clients (Barrett is loosing his mind), when asked how long we can stay afloat the new CFO just shrugs his shoulders. Barrett says “we need a deal”. Carlyle asks if that isn’t his job. Barrett says no one lower then CEO is going to be able to put together the next deal, because WFM is flatlined on the street. Carlyle says he wants to do “For My Money”. Now Barrett really loses his mind. Carlyle says deal with it. Meeting adjourned.
5:30-7:30 Secretary puts a phone call to Carlyle. It’s the NZ media man, the deal is off. Carlyle sympathizes about the man crashing to death in front of him (on top o fhis limo), but a deal is a deal. He says he’ll take remedy in court if need be. The NZ man just laughs, says you have no in-house counsel, enough legal problems already, and I have an out clause because it was signed on condition of Jonas being the broker of record.
7:30-9:00 Allison at one of those large, crowded college courses. It’s about corporate communication. At one point Allison scoffs at something the prof says, but when called to the mat on it, she just apologizes. Under her breath she says “darn it academics don’t know anything about the real corporate world”
9:00-12:30 Carlyle returns to the “Spy Stuff” store. The owner looks very nervous. He tells Carlyle that he had a break-in. Incredulous Carlyle asks’ “isn’t that the whole point of your business?”. The owner gets defensive. He tells the CEO that the bug was stolen, amongst other things. When pressed further he admits that the other items made sense, monitors, listening devices, etc. But an obviously used and broken bug? Why steal that? It seems fishy. On the subject of what he discovered the owner is vague. He nervously tells Carlyle the bug is top of the line, government type. Probably American, maybe European, but anything is possible. Carlyle presses for more but the owner basically shoes him out of the store. He tells him “be careful. Leave it alone.”
12:30-14:30 Back in the office Carlyle makes a call to “For My Money” and then takes a call on his cell. Carlyle looks at the number and answers “Mason?”. But on the other end is a thick accented Caribbean male. He wants to know if Carlyle knows the man who owns the phone. Carlyle won’t say, and the man won’t say why he's calling. Finally Carlyle figures it out and asks if something has happened to Mason, and identifies himself as Carlyle Walsh, Mason’s brother. The man says he is a doctor in Trinidad & Tobago and they have Mason in critical condition recovering from a gunshot to the head. He’ll make it, but he's alive only by a matter of inches. He asks Carlyle if he will be able to make it to T&T to help with the expenses. Carlyle says he’ll need a day or so, but send him the info and he’ll wire some money. He asks that Mason call him when he is able.
14:30-16:00 Barrett comes in and Carlyle tells him about the NZ deal falling threw. Barrett is shocked. He thinks for a few seconds (and mixes himself a drink). Then he asks why when the CEO of the NZ company just misses having a body fall on him by a few inches do they not report it on the air? All their competitors are. Carlyle blows him off, he’s too busy for conjecture.
16:00-17:30 Caryle being prepped for the financial TV show "For My Money" by Barrett. The Sales manager almost gets into a fist fight with a producer.
17:30-21:00 Carlyle’s live on-air interview with Archie doesn’t go well. He tries to refute the allegations of inexperience, clients fleeing etc, but doesn’t do well. It’s a total disaster.
21:00-21:30 A man in a thick Russian accent telling another man behind a desk that he got an interesting phone call from a hospital in Trinidad & Tobago a few hours ago. It seems that Mason Walsh some how survived. “Kill him”.
21:30-24:30 Carlyle returns to the office, but after being inundated by requests he storms out telling the secretary not to find him for a couple hours, he needs time to think. We cut to him running on a track. He is having a memory of running with his father (played by Jon Voight) who extols the virtues of running. He tells Carlyle that Golf is overated. It’s a waste of time unless you have a deal to make. Running helps focus the mind and think things through. Scenes of his father, mother, brother and sister flash through his mind. Then he starts to picture financial statements bearing the names of his clients that are fleeing the firm.
24:30-26:30 Barrett is seen at a restaurant talking to another suit. Turns out it’s a job interview. But when the suit begins to ridicule the state that WFM is in, Barrett’s interest in the interview quickly wanes. He receives a phone call from Carlyle and most annoying to the other suit he answers it and then leaves.
26:30-28:30 Allison is on a supper date. It becomes obvious that she is not yet functioning on this level. “Fun” is not her middle name. We then see that she is being watched by a rather large and mysterious looking gentleman.
28:30-30:00 Barrett is rushing into the office just as others are rushing out. He goes to the boardroom to find Carlye and “what couldn’t wait for tomorrow”. Of course he first has to needle him about his appearance on TV. Carlyle flips some files towards him and tells him to get to work, we are putting a deal together.
30:00-33:00 Obviously a couple hours later, and lots of paper scattered, Carlyle takes a call from his sister Allison. It’s a brief conversation but it jogs his memory about Mason (he doesn’t tell Allison about it). He goes to his laptop finds an e-mail and wires some money to T&T. Barrett asks him about it so he has little choice but to fill him in. When Barrett asks about the gunshot to the head (was it self inflicted), Carlyle is mum, and says “who knows.” Barrett says the reason he is asking is because who else did the Doctor call from his brother’s call log or address book? A light bulb goes on for Carlyle. He scoops together some documents, tells Barrett to send the work to finance, he’s flying out to T&T and then straight to Iraq. He tells Barrett to work the other side of the deal in Chicago with Robotics and meet him in Baghdad. He runs out the door.
33:00-34:00 Barrett at the Chicago headquarters of IWG Robotics trying to get past their receptionist without an appointment. Smooth and slow is not his style.
34:00-36:00 Allison knocking on a door of a Chemist at her college (Boston University). She introduces herself and her links to WFM, and after he asks some questions about her communications courses, she asks if he will help analyze this (she drops a folder on his desk). He nods, but when she says “tonight”, he looks reluctant. She sweet talks him into it, telling him about all the misfortune the family has had. He finally agrees. Then she says, oh, and can you fly to Iraq with me tomorrow?
36:00-38:30 A very nervous looking Carlyle talks the doctor at the T&T hospital to discharge him despite his condition. He is able to talk and sit-up but is still in pain. He confides to the doctor that it was an attempted murder, and now the murderers know where to find him because of the cell phone call. The doctor co-operates, and Mason leaves in a wheelchair being pushed by his brother.
38:30-41:30 In a cab Carlyle and Mason are driving around. The cabbie keeps asking where, and Carlyle tells him to keep driving around, not to retrace his route. We also get some chit-chat between the brothers. It’s tense with Mason not talking about any “Russians” and telling Carlyle to just leave it well enough alone. They seem to have been at this for a while. Finally Carlyle’s phone rings, he listens, says ok, and gives the cabbie directions. Mason says they are being followed and points out a blue BMW in the mirror. They arrive at an airfield and the BMW is slowly approaching them. Just in time a small plane comes in to land bearing the IWG Robotics symbol. A couple security goons come out with automatics and the BMW crawls away.
41:30-42:30 Some scenes of them arriving in a “Green Zone” in Iraq. The brothers marvel at how much it looks just like America right down to a McDonalds hamburger stand and a lounge playing College football.
42:30-47:00 Allison, the chemistry professor, Barrett, and Carlyle are all introduced to a couple of military advisors, the CEO of IWG Robotics, and the CEO and CFO of Halivent Mines. They sit at a table and Carlyle lays out the deal. Halivent is currently suing the US government despite them being Americans themselves because the military, specifically the Iraq controlled allies of the Americans, have damaged a couple of mines owned by Halivent in the taking of Iraq. The mines were subjected to uranium because of the use of “dirty bombs”. The US also has a problem cleaning up after the war, as well as in their own backyard, disposing of uranium contaminated materials. The deal WFM is proposing will see Halivent’s mines being used as underground, controlled depositories in Northern Iraq for Uranium effected material. The entire project will be done with full automation from IWG Robotics to minimize exposure risk to soldiers and civilians. Halivent will drop the suit against the US government in return for the deal and some restitution. Carlyle hands out the deal’s prospectus around the table.
47:00-47:30 Outside the meeting Barrett congratulates Carlyle and then leaves with the others. Carlyle, Allison, and Mason remain for a pause. There is uneasy silence. When Carlyle asks Mason what next (he’s still in a wheelchair), Mason just smiles and says, its time to go home.

Details; 0:00-1:30 [Review of last episodes]
1:30-2:30 Carlyle, Mason, and Barrett watch a News report that New Zealand media mogul Bill Wilkins has dropped dead of a heart attack. Barrett deadpans that was a real delayed reaction to having a body fall on your limo.
2:30-3:00 [opening credits – see cast]
3:00-5:30 FBI agent Woods clashes with Carlyle over Mason being in the office since his rights to trade have been revoked. Carlyle assures him he is just here to say hello to some folks he used to work with and then he will be going back to Carlyle’s apartment where he will be staying. The IRS agent pokes his nose in and with his usual lack of tact asks Mason if he knows anything about the money being laundered through Russian mob interests. Mason acts naïve.
5:30-6:30 Private heart to heart between Mason and Carlyle, as he tells his brother he can’t be here, to go home.
6:30-10:00 Carlyle steps into the glass walled boardroom where he meets with Barrett, the interim CFO, and a couple other unknown senior company men. They have a bottle of champagne which they shake and open, and pour for all around to toast the Robotics-Uranium disposal deal. We see Mason watching from the elevator as he leaves, jealous? Back to the management meeting a rundown is given. The bleeding has stopped and some new clients are showing interest.
10:00-11:00 Mason at Carlyle’s apartment talking to his lawyer on the phone. He confirms that because of his suspension he is not allowed to buy into his father’s firm. His option will expire and the company will belong to Mason and/or Allison. He throws the phone through the window in a fit of rage.
11:00-13:00 Barrett is having lunch again, this time with 2 different suits. They are courting him to come work for them. Obviously they represent a bigger entity, a “bank” and while his money will likely double he will not be the boss. He says he’ll think it over.
13:00-16:00 On the campus of Boston U., Allison is out for a walk with a couple of friends. After she splits off she realizes she is being followed by a man. Not a college boy, more of a “spook”. She lures him to a building and then makes a run for it, finding safety by joining a passing group of students. She looks for him but he’s gone.
16:00-18:30 Carlyle is in his office, still across the hall from the CEO’s office being used by the FBI and IRS. He receives a frantic call from Allison, which is unlike her, about the man following her. He tells her to stay with someone at all costs and that he will send out a corporate security guy ASAP. After he gets off the phone he calls the CEO of IWG Robotics who agrees to spare one of his men to go and check it out. He compliments Carlyle on the job he is doing, and the deal he put together.
18:30-21:00 Carlyle and Mason are playing some tennis together. It’s obvious by his attire and effort that Mason doesn’t take it as serious as Carlyle. The younger brother is winning easily and chides Mason for his lack of effort. It blows up into a whole metaphor for their separate career tracks. Carlyle backs down “for now”. He tells Mason about Allison’s predicament and asks if he knows anything about this Russian mafia connection. Mason says he’s been out of WFM for too long to know anything about it but he knows enough to be scared. He says he has some contacts and will discreetly check it out in the next couple of days.
21:00-26:00 Carlyle returns to “Spy Stuff”. At first the owner won’t have anything to do with him but relents when Carlyle begins to spend a few thousand dollars on merchandise, and the owner explains how to use them. After the purchase though Carlyle asks the owner if he’s familiar with industry consolidators. He explains that some business industries still operate on low scale, mom and pop shops across the nation. Their total market not being significant they have flown under the radar screen. However, WFM places private equity to help owners buy other businesses and consolidate the industry. Carlyle suggests that Spy Stuff operates in one of those industries. Ripe for the picking. The owner takes the bait but when Carlyle says in return he wants to know about the bug, the owner changes his mind. He’s mad and shows Carlyle the door.
26:00-28:30 Back at the firm Carlyle has a heart to heart with the boisterous Barrett. When he tells Barrett that he knows about the job offers, the other man looks crushed and embarrassed. Carlyle assures him its okay, but wants him to stay. He asks that he give him a couple months to stabilize things and then he will offer Barrett the right to purchase 5% of the firm to Barrett. Barrett counters with 10%, and Carlye agrees.
25:00-26:30 Carlyle returns to his apartment complex, parking his car in the lot. Suddenly in the darkness he’s attacked. Some kind of black metal rod or baton smacks him across the back of the legs. A voice with a strong Russian(?) accent tells him to mind his own business, and that the FBI won’t find a thing if he just stays out of it. Carlyle turns over on his back, but the man is wearing a mask. He goes to hit Carlyle again with the baton but the CEO reaches up and sprays him with pepper spray (that he bought from “Spy Stuff”) right in the eyes. The man flees while yelling and covering his eyes. A car is heard screeching, a car door closes, and then the car screeches away. Mason comes out to see what the yelling was about (along with a couple other residents) and helps his brother to his feet.
26:30-32:30 Alarm clock shows 1:00am and Carlyle sits bolt upright. He gets dressed and is heading to the office. Mason is up fully dressed and when Carlyle tells him what he’s up to he decides to come. They arrive at the office and start sifting through the client files that had been targeted by the FBI and IRS. They work through the night. As morning arrives and people begin to arrive they decide they have to get Mason out before Woods arrives. However, first they do some reminiscing about their father Jonas through some memory scenes. It’s obvious that the father spent more time with Mason because he was the more outgoing, and being the elder would one day inherit the CEO job. Both boys loved money from an early age. We see that Mason cornered the market by having 4 paper routes, having to use his friends names to sign up for the others, and then sub-rented out two of them to other kids. He also bought and sold comic books, baseball cards etc. He was not beyond running a scam. We see him get the tar beaten out of him for selling baseball cards that he claimed were autographed (obtained from his rich father of course) but were signed by Mason himself. We also see that Carlyle took a different route, beginning to invest at the age of 11. Carlyle says that his father didn’t actually buy the stocks, he just pretended to, until the younger son had turned $2,000 into $10,000 in just over two years playing penny mining stocks and the father had to fund the difference since he hadn’t bought the stocks figuring his son would lose money. Mason admits that Father always loved me best, right up until he disowned me.
32:30-35:30 The next day. Carlyle returns to the spy shop yet again. This time the owner threatens him with force. He even says if he comes here again he’ll kill him, and he looks like he means it, and yet looks scared at the same time. After some badgering the owner lets it slip that he had a threatening phone call from a Russian man. Carlyle tells him he has a more immediate problem to deal with – a new landlord, WFM. He has bought the building and will destroy the spy shop unless he tells him everything. The owner balks saying his rights are protected under his lease. Carlyle agrees but mentions that since this is an old downtown and warehouse area he checked out the zoning. He tells the owner that he will get new tenants in the building’s empty space upstairs within a week – a XXX porn palace. Who knows maybe a massage parlor next? That has got to hurt the business that relies of discrection like “Spy Stuff”. Finally the owner relents and takes Carlye to the back room where he cranks up some electronic distortion equipment while he whispers to Carlyle. He tells him that the bug was one of “ours”, but was definitely CIA not FBI. He reminds Carlyle that the CIA would normally not do that, the FBI would. Carlyle asks if its possible another foreign organization got the bug from the CIA. The owner says anything is possible in this kind of situation.
35:30-36:30 Back in the office Carlyle receives a phone call from the IWG Robotics CEO. He says that his man got a glimpse of the stalker but was unable to apprehend him. He suggests to Carlyle that the man was a professional.
36:30-40:30 Carlyle gets buzzed from the secretary who sounds very nervous. “Mr. Walsh there is a Mr. Wilkins here in reception to see you” “Mr. Wilkins is dead.” “Yes sir” “You mean there is a corpse in reception to see me?” “No sir” Carlyle comes out to reception where a man about the same age as himself (mid 30’s) greets him. “Mr.Walsh I presume. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Terence Wilkins, CEO of Auckland Media Inc. You knew my father, as I knew yours. My condolences on your loss” They exchange pleasantries, and its obvious that Carlyle is totally taken off guard. Barrett happens by and together they try to again steer a Wilkins away from the FBI, but he says he already knows about the investigation. In the boardroom he says he wants to deal again with WFM. He suggests that he has been drawn to Carlyle from the unfortunate coincidence and timing of the tragedies. They begin to talk about acquisitions in the U.S. but Barrett steers him to Canada instead where the government has begun to relax foreign ownership content requirements. Both parties agree that the scope fo this deal has the potential to change all their lives. They agree to talk more at dinner, as the credits appear.

1.04 - "Of Ghosts and Boots" Summary; Mason doesn't want Carlyle to file a police report, and tries to make good on a past debt. Barrett watches as a slam dunk deal almost tanks because of racism. The FBI wraps up their investigation - for now. And Carlyle receives messages "from the other side".
Details; • Review of last week’s episode, concluding with the attack on Carlyle • Carlyle wants to file a police report about the attack. Mason convinces him against it, asking until the end of the day to continue doing his digging. • In the executive meeting news that a deal is being brokered by Carlyle for Auckland Media to buy some Canadian media interests in minority positions for now. • Barrett brings forth a new deal, a “slam dunk”. A work boot manufacturer is losing money and looking for a partner or investment. Barrett says that while manufacturing has been moved off-shore there are still savings to be made by moving customer service and product design offshore (India) and outsourcing to a 3rd party logistics company the warehousing and delivery system. Carlyle tells him to go for it and place some private equity from WFM’s clients. • Allison starts a relationship with a grad student who was one of her teaching profs in freshman economics last year. There is no policy against it, but its obvious that Allison doesn’t feel comfortable dating him but is drawn to him none the less. • Agent Woods has a wrap-up meeting with Carlyle as the FBI and IRS pack up their stuff. He tells Carlyle that the investigation will continue but no charges are being laid at this time. He tells Carlyle that they have connected the dots that two clients represented by WFM laundered money through their businesses. However both ultimately were owned by the same people, and with no hard evidence that WFM was complicit, they are for now still off the hook. However the estate of Jonas Carlyle as well as the shares of WFM are still being held up due to RICO legislation. • Barrett comes to Carlyle, looking like he’s had a hard day. He tells Carlyle that the Boot maker won’t agree to terms. He doesn’t want to move those aspects off shore, he’s still looking for a partner to share in his “American dream”. Barrett says he talked to the last investment banker they used and moving the factory overseas was forced on them to keep them out of bankruptcy. Carlyle asks Barrett what the guy’s problem is. Barrett says straight out “he’s a racist”. • Mason makes a phone call from a payphone on the street. He calls his Russian “friends”. He tells them to call off the dogs, that he will be able to pay all that is owed. He tells the Russians his Father left him a very rich man, but the money is still in probate. They are surprised to hear this, figuring that Mason would have been left penniless after betraying his father years ago. Mason bitterly says that Americans have stronger family values then Russians. The Russian laughs heartily as the camera pans over to a very beautiful, tall, long legged woman sitting near him looking bored out of her mind. The Russian tells Mason to prove it and come up with some cash. Mason says there is a provision in the will for some small advance of funds through the lawyer and he assures the Russian he will get him $200,000 by the end of the week. The Russian makes it clear that if he does not he will be killed. • Carlyle receives a e-mail with an attachment from his Father. It’s a strange videotape of a yacht, blue waters, some mountains in the background, and his father saying, “the weather is great, wish you were here son”. The CEO just about jumps out of his skin. He calls in the nerdy IT guy who watches the e-mail, pushes some keys, and tells him he’ll look into it. • Carlyle goes to the club to play some tennis. He works out with the machine lobbing him balls and him smashing them. He thinks of his father and their family vacation to the Grand Canyon. Mason and Carlyle are fighting like cats and dogs, and his father registers his disappointment in the two of them. The CEO is awoken from his thoughts when a ball careems off his racket and hits him in the face. A woman giggles, and says he was doing so well up until then. It’s an attractive Barbie doll blonde. She flirts with him, even more when she finds out that he’s “the” Carlyle Walsh. He takes her number but its obvious he has no desire to call her. • Mason reports to Carlyle that the “dogs have been called off” according to his sources. Mason falsely attributes their luck to the FBI not finding any concrete proof. Carlyle agrees not to file the police report but warns Mason that if it flares up again that he will have to involve the police. • Mr. Dinkins, the Boot manufacturer comes to WFM for a meeting. He is greeted by Carlyle, Barrett, a 3rd suit who Carlyle introduces as WFM’s new in-house legal, and an East Indian woman. Dinkins is put off immediately by the lawyer and the woman. Carlyle tells him to sit down. He tells him that money has no color other then green, and that the ethnic communities have picked up his smell. The East Indian woman warns Dinkins that there will be massive protests of his head office if he continues to employ only the WASP’s he currently has in management and customer service. Dinkins says he’s just been misunderstood, that he’s only pro-American, all Americans not just the whites. Barrett says that if that’s true then they have a solution. The East Indian woman hands him a brochure. “American Connections” is a multi-cultural group that helps new arrivals to America to find jobs. Often the State will even chip in for a wage subsidy or training. Barrett tells Dinkins that these savings are not as great as if he moved those aspects off shore but its enough to get back into the black, and for WFM to invest its clients money. Dinkins looks over the brochure, and nods (not an overly enthusiastic response). They all stand and shake hands, and Carlyle tells him that documents will be sent over to his lawyer to look over. As Dinkins shakes the East Indian woman’s hand, he is visibly unnerved. He mutters, “I hope you find living in America to be everything you dreamed of.” She smiles at him and informs him that her family received their American citizenship back in 1906. • Night is falling, and Barrett and Carlye are sharing a drink in the boardroom toasting another deal. Mason enters which draws Carlyle’s ire but he tells him to relax because the FBI is gone. Barrett says goodnight and leaves. Carlyle makes Mason a drink and turns on “For My Money”. Archie Hammon is blasting away at some poor hedge fund manager who is losing money on his shorts. Suddenly the screen changes to the boat scene again like in the e-mail. Jonas’ voice comes on the TV, “see I told you the FBI wouldn’t find anything. They couldn’t find their butt with both hands.” Then the screen returns to Archie Hammon, and now he’s blasting the left wing liberals for spending increases. Mason chokes on his drink, but Carlyle only looks slightly surprised. He turns to Mason and says, “what’s the matter it looks like you’ve seen a ghost?”

1.05 – “Dead Men Don’t Do Deals”
Summary; The strange messages from Jonas continue to haunt WFM, so Eugene (IT) and Barrett call in some paranormal investigators without telling Carlyle (Freaky Links). Mason gets a visit from some unfriendly Russians. Allison's new boyfriend rocks the boat a bit. When the Eastern seaboard experiences a blackout, it becomes ghost story time on the finance floor.
Details; -CEO Carlyle Walsh meets with the IT guy from the previous episode (Eugene). There is no possible explanation for the audio files that keep popping up with Jonas’s voice on them. It might be believable that it was a hacker except for Carlyle’s insistence that he also received a message through the television. -Executive meeting Barrett informs Carlyle that he has entered discussions with a drilling equipment manufacturer and leaser Titan Drill whom need some bond financing. During the meeting the lights keep flickering. Barrett says it’s a hell of a storm out there. -Mason is at home in Carlyle’s apartment. He’s paid a visit by some goons to collect on the debt. He gives the men $25,000 and buys himself 48 more hours. But just to make sure he understands one of the goons punches him in the ribcage. He collapses, obviously having problems breathing. -Back at WFM the Freaky Links crew arrive. Derek Barnes, Chloe, and Jason. Eugene only introduces them to Carlyle as being IT consultants, and he doesn’t press for any more details. Barrett though also meets with them once Carlyle is gone. He says that Eugene has filled them in on what they really do, paranormal investigations. Barrett claims to have received messages as well from Jonas, so he knows something is up. He tells them to take this wherever it leads them and he will authorize their expenditures. He gives them his card and tells them to call him at home or on his cell phone only. The Freaks leave the building. --Over at Boston U. Allison is on a romantic date with her new boyfriend, her ex-prof. They are on a row boat in the middle of a little lake. He tells her a bit about his family (his father is an economist, his mother a housewife, old money, etc). He asks about her family, and presses her to take her rightful spot at WFM by buying her shares. She doesn’t seem overly impressed by his forceful opinion. She ends their date early on the pretense that the storm clouds in the distance worry her. -The lights suddenly go out at WFM. The back-up generators come on enough to power the computer systems and the aisle lighting. However the traders soon find that the exchange is completely closed down, and word quickly spreads of a black-out on the east coast. The exchange has come to a halt. The executives and traders gather on the floor for a lack of anything else to do. -Barrett grabs a flashlight and starts to tell a ghost story reminiscent of camp, and gets nailed by a couple paper airplanes for his troubles. -Carlyle takes the floor by telling everyone about one of his Dad’s deals. As the story unfolds we hear Carlyle as the narrator but we see the action as it occurred years ago. It was when Jonas worked for a big brokerage firm, before founding WFM. This man came in to the office one day just as most were leaving. That’s how he (Jonas) a junior, managed to nab a huge deal. Or so he thought. The man said that his regular business kept him busy during the day so he preferred to meet in the evenings. This allowed his father to keep the deal underwraps so none of the seniors would attempt to scoop it. The man wanted to buy out a couple of malls in Hungary that were facing each other, add in some attractions on the shores of the river which separated the two malls. He worked on the deal for several weeks. By the time the senior partners got a whiff of the deal it was too late to scoop it, even though they tried. Jonas explained it away by saying the guy was a bit flaky and he didn’t want to commit the firm to the deal yet. The CEO authorized the firm to do some due diligence. As part of that Jonas flew out to the sight in Budapest, without advising the client. He found that both malls were unfortunately built on ancient burial sites dating back several hundred years. He also found that the owners of the malls had no intention of selling and so the price tag would be steep. When my father spoke to the client he became very mad. My father told me that the wind seemed to pick up and began to shake the office windows, until the man calmed down. The client said that if he bought the land he could do with it whatever he wished. He also said the price increase of the deal was easily managed. The next step for the firm was to do some due diligence on the client, which was already underway. Unfortunately for my father the report came back that the man was a fraud. The rich family that he came from could not be traced into recent times. My father immediately tried to reach the client by the phone but the number was answered by someone entirely different. My father could not figure out what happened, the whole deal just disappeared. More then a decade later he was traveling in Hungary with my mother on business. They did some sightseeing and visited some old castles. And yes, they happened to come across the very family estate bearing the client’s last name – a name I don’t remember. There was an oil painting dating back to the 1600’s of the last male of that family before the line died out when he passed away of disease, leaving behind a wife and daughter but no sons yet. The man in the oil painting, my father told me, bore a remarkable resemblance to his failed client. -Many of the traders gaffaw at this but only Barrett dares throw a paper airplane at him. -The lights come back on, and everyone goes back to work. -Carlyle goes back to his office and hits the buttons to retrieve voice mail. The voice of his father comes over the phone. “Hello son. Just thought I would mention the name of the Hungarian was LoDusa. And I might mention, you were there too. In your mother’s womb. Have a nice night.” Click.

1.06 – “The Russian Connection” - air date TBA
Summary; WFM has a new client Titan Drill which may not be as it first appears. Allison introduces her new boyfriend (Fred) to her over-protective brothers. Agent Woods gets physical with Carlyle to try and get information out of him. Jonas' estate is released to his heirs. "For My Money" host Archie Hammon receives inside information which allows him to release the links between WFM and the Russian mob as a media exclusive.
Detailed; -A Calgary based international drill equipment firm (Titan Drill ) comes to WFM to help it raise money via a pulic offering of bonds to help it expand into eastern Europe.
-Barrett leaves work ill. Later he calls in convinced he has the avian bird flu, believed he contacted it during the Titan Drill meeting. He gets checked out by doctors but can’t be convinced that he isn’t terminally ill. His wife gets on the phone with Carlyle and tells him her husband is just a big baby and will be back to work as soon as he stops vomiting. Carlyle says “tell him to take his time”.
-Carlyle is caught off-guard by Agent Woods while coming out of his tennis club. Woods ushers him quickly into the backseat of his black sedan. He questions Carlyle about what he “really knows” about WFM and the Russians. Carlyle affirms his innocence and threatens Woods with legal action. Woods doesn’t blink. He tells Carlyle that eventually he will connect the dots. He also tells the WFM CEO that he received word from his field CO to drop all investigation into the matter. Carlyle can’t resist with “seems like you don’t take orders too well”. Again Woods is not sidetracked. He tells Carlyle that he doesn’t like to be told to back off. Woods asks him again and again Carlyle pushes his innocence. With a sigh Woods seems to give-in. He apologizes to Carlyle and and says that he won’t be pursuing this matter any further, because it just isn’t worth jeopardizing his career over. He tells Carlyle though to watch his back, and if he needs the right kind of help to call him, day or night. Carlyle just kind of gives him an incredulous “uh-huh”
-A meeting with lawyers is held and the estate of Jonas Carlyle has been freed for resolution by the courts. The terms are laid out as previously thought, and Carlyle writes his cheque to charity for a share of the firm. Mason goes ballistic when formally informed that he can not own the shares at this time. However, he is told that he will receive his cash from the estate in a few days. He asks for a $250,000 advance, and while the lawyers approve it, Carlyle does raise his eyebrows at that request. He asks Mason about it who just responds he has some small debts and wants to buy a condo so he can move out from Carlyle’s place.
-Allison is at the will meeting but does not give an indication of whether she will buy into the firm or not. After the meeting she takes her brothers to meet her boyfriend and ex-prof Fred. The brothers are very protective and turn against Fred pretty quick, causing Allison and Fred to leave in a huff.
-From home Barrett still sick calls Carlyle on his cell while he is in a meeting with Titan Drill. He tells him to go to his office and put on Archie Hammon’s show. Carlyle says its not time for “For My Money” yet to which Barrett replies, “apparently it is.” Carlyle does so and when he turns it on Archie is on another person’s show as a special guest pouring out the can’t wait details of an investigative coup. He lays it out that the reason the FBI were investigating WFM was because of Russian mob connections. Archie says that a couple of WFM’s clients have been connected to money laundering schemes. While the FBI has not yet placed the blame on WFM one has to wonder how long it will be until that happens. Carlyle mutters to himself “or connect the dots..darn it Woods”. Archie goes on to say that the companies involved have another connection as well to each other. They were both owned in a portfolio of a major American broker’s recent “Russian Mutual Fund” offering which was supposed to give American investors a way of investing in only Russian companies of quality that had been prescreened by the American fund managers. Archie quips, “seems like they didn’t screen enough”. Then the shocker comes. Archie reveals that currently WFM CEO Carlyle Walsh is meeting with Titan Drill, whose corporate branches root through to Russian interests which can be directly tied to other companies in the Russian mutual fund. The host cautions that this doesn’t make them guilty of anything, but it seems more like a straight man setting up his partner for the punch-line then it does a serious statement. Sure enough Archie looks into the camera and smiles, “considering the circumstances though don’t you think that WFM would have learned their lesson”.
-Carlyle turns off the TV, and the cell phone (Barrett is yelling “Carlyle” into the phone) and slumps back into his chair. He has a flashback to his father having angry words in the office with an investor that causes him to storm out of the WFM’s office. When quizzed about it Jonas tells his young son that he had already been burned once by that man, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. This causes Carlyle to take a long look at his office picture of himself, Mason, and his father. His eyes linger on Mason as he thinks about what his father said. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me
-The young WFM CEO is woken from his memories by the receptionist buzzing him, reminding him of the meeting he abruptly left. He returns to the boardroom saying he must have caught the same thing that Barrett has come down with because he's suddenly sick to his stomach. Its obviously contagious so we should break up this meeting for now while we do our due diligence on the file. He laughs saying he hopes it isn’t the bird flu. No one else laughs and they break it up without a handshake.
-Carlyle is driving on his way home and calls his sister Allison. He apologizes for the way he treated Phil and invites them both up for a weekend at a resort in the Hamptons at WFM’s expense. She accepts.
-After he hangs up the phone rings again, it’s Agent Woods. Carlyle starts to ream him out about getting “For My Money” to do his dirty work for him. Woods pleads innocent and says that’s why he’s calling. And to share one more piece of info he got this afternoon off the subnet, that technically is classified. Carlyle gives him another “uh-huh”. Woods says that an agent covering some Russian mobsters working on the east coast just recorded a pay-off of $200,000 to some Russian numbered company..dramatic pause…from Mason Walsh. Carlyle is speechless and his BMW crashes into the stopped car in front of him.

1.07 - "Bar Flirts"
Summary; Carlyle recieves some unsolicted and illegal help from his brother Mason to try and salvage a hostile takeover bid of a grocery chain. Fred seems to give Allison some doubts on leaving the family firm in the sole hands of her brother Carlyle.
Details; -Carlyle is in his office having an argument with his new in-house council and some other lawyer about keeping his neckbrace on. He’s trying to talk on his cell and his office phone, one with Barrett and one with Mason. Finally he hangs up on both of them, rips off the neckbrace, throws it against the wall and tells them to leave. He calls Barrett back and puts him on speaker phone. Barrett is telling Carlyle about some stock that’s gone up almost 10% this morning and shows no sign of softness. At this rate the deal will tank and we will be left with nothing but egg on our face. Carlyle hangs up and tells his receptionist to get the young lions back in for a meeting.
-Mason is in Carlyle’s apartment watching the financial channel. He watches Carlyle give an interview where he denies any wrong doing, saying that WFM and his father had no way to know about the money laundering, and that it was just a coincidence through referral that they happen to represent two clients that were implicated. He adds that the FBI and IRS have poured over their books and to the best of his knowledge no charges are pending at this time. When asked about his brother Mason’s involvement in this, Carlyle kind of draws a blank, stutters, and then says that his brother has to the best of his knowledge no dealings with WFM since his suspension. Mason turns off the TV and says to himself “that’s what you think little brother”
-Allison is watching the same program with her boyfriend Fred in her apartment. After she turns it off, Fred makes some comment about Carlyle being very convincing. Allison retorts that’s because he was telling the truth. Fred gives her a look like “whatever” that again she doesn’t appreciate. Fred tries to smooth it over with “look Allison, I’m just saying that maybe you should do a bit more to protect your interests. This is your heritage your speaking of. You don’t want to get blackballed in business if something goes wrong”. She seems to think about it.
-Carlyle and Barrett are in a meeting with a couple 20 something executives. They lay it out for us. The two execs put together a small consortium to buy open stock of the grocery chain they work for, that they feel is being mismanaged under a system of nepotism and fiefdoms. Their first step was to get to 10% and then demand their spot on the board, as well as to announce the hostile takeover attempt. However, as of this morning they were only at 6% yet the stock began to sky rocket. Someone knows and its driving the stock up. The four men spend a minute or two speculating and then arguing about the leak. Then Mason sticks his head in, wearing jeans and a sweatshirt and asks to speak to Carlyle.
-Mason tells Carlye that he can salvage the deal. When asked how he even knows about it Mason says he talked with the grocery guys on the way up in the elevator. Carlyle is furious, tells Mason to leave, and goes back to the meeting all fire and brimstone. He tells the grocery guys that its no wonder that word leaked out, they can’t keep their yaps shut. He tells them to go home, shut up, and wait. Carlyle says they are professionals and will handle this. They leave in a huff. Barrett asks Carlyle what the plan is, and the CEO says “I don’t know yet.” Barrett says "great, first the Drill deal now this one. We’re going bankrupt soon at this rate."
-Carlyle returns home that night to his condo that he is currently sharing with Mason. Inside he finds Mason entertaining 6 lovely, long legged blondes. With their long hair pulled back into a bun, and their make-up, red skirt, white blouse, and white stockings all being identical it has a very surreal look. Carlyle stutters before asking Mason if he is doing a Robert Palmer tribute video. He sings “addicted to love” but no-one cracks a smile. Mason says okay girls you know what to do and they stand up and walk over to Carlyle, who gulps and backs into the door. He breathes easier as they all exit the apartment. A couple of them seem to take his measure, and the last one drags a finger nail across his cheek and gives it a kiss, leaving a red lipstick mark. Mason tells Carlyle that those girls are going to solve his little grocery stock problem, but that he doesn’t want to know the details. Yet Carlyle asks if they are call-girls, but Mason just scoffs and says far from it, they are college educated bar flirts.
-The next day when Carlyle walks into the office, he is met by a very excited Barrett who plants a big wet kiss on Carlyle’s cheek. He tells the CEO that the grocery stock price has begun to dive, and at this point we will get to our 10% with budget room to spare before the end of the week.
-Carlyle receives a self-congratulatory visit from Mason, although he talks in riddles and points to the air like this could be being recorded. He submits a bill to Carlyle who says the firm can’t pay this out on the books. Mason says, no but you can, I just made the firm a ton of money, in other words I just made you a ton of money, since you are WFM. Carlyle looks at the bill, and asks if he can subtract rent. Mason looks offended says the rent was personal, this was business. Carlyle asks what he did with the $250,000 advance he took and if the condo closed yet. Mason looks trapped and says that things got complicated and it may take a couple more weeks to finish. Carlyle writes Mason a cheque for half the amount of the bill.
-Barrett and Carlye enter the elevator at the end of a long work day. Barrett congratulates Carlye on salvaging the grocery store deal. Then he asks Carlye about the rumors on the street. It seems that there was a very seductive lady working the bar scene hard the last couple of days. Supposedly she managed to get enough guys worried about the stock to dump it and drive down the price. Carlyle smirks, and says he knows nothing about that, it would be market manipulation and WFM has enough problems with the law as it is.
-Fast forward to later in the week and Archie Hammon’s “For My Money” program being watched by Carlyle, Mason, and Barrett in the boardroom drinking champagne along with the two young grocery executives. Hammon predicts a stellar turn around for the grocery chain but it all depends on the long, bloody battle for control that will follow. Hammon then says that he may have written off the spunky little boutique firm WFM too soon and that they have rebounded very quickly from adverse conditions. Then as the group clanks glasses and celebrates Carlyle stops in his tracks as Archie Hammon says..”perhaps WFM has finally exorcised the ghost of Jonas Carlyle. Good night.”

1.08 - "Treasure Trove"
Summary; When Carlye passes on a high risk treasure hunting expedition to be financed by the firm, Barrett finds himself another private partner to do the deal - Mason. Allison forces Carlyle to hire her boyfriend Fred to the firm so that her interests will be better served. Carlyle becomes infatuated by a jogger. The trouble with the Russians may not be over yet for the Walsh brothers.
Details; -Show opens with Barrett and Carlyle in the boardroom. Barrett is literally blocking the door stopping Carlyle from leaving. He’s yelling at his boss “they’re not nuts, they know what they’re talking about”. Carlyle responds very slowly, “N..O…NO. Now get out of my way I have to take this call”. Barrett: But it didn’t even ring. Carlye: It vibrated Barrett: No it didn’t Carlyle: Get out of my way. Barrett: N..O….No Carlyle: *sighs* okay what if I promise to come back? Barrett: You promise? Carlyle: cross my heart… Barrett: Do it. Carlyle: Oh come on.. Barrett: See… Mason (appers in the doorway): These are the two men who are in charge of the Walsh family firm? *laughs* Carlyle takes the opportunity to duck under Barrett and take off for his office where he slams the door and takes out his cellphone. Going to the window he looks out and pretends to talk on the cell. He watches for a few seconds, “darn it I must of missed her”. Checks his watch. “No wait there she is”. He watches as a sexy jogging female in spandex pants runs up the edge of the road, deftly avoiding other pedestrians. *sighs* "that is one heavenly lady." A knock on the door and the receptionist enters. He finishes his “phone call” and then places it on his hip. They do a quick run down of the rest of the day. As she’s leaving she says “you could just go meet her. Of course you’d have to catch her first.”
-Carlyle blushes, and then heads back to the boardroom. He passes Barrett on the way down the hall. “I thought we were going to continue”. Barrett replies “what’s there to continue? Do you want to do the Treasure Trove deal or not?” “No”. “See. Nothing to discuss. Talk to you later.” Barrett walks away leaving Carlyle to scratch his head.
-Allison pops into the office later that morning with Fred. She asks to see Carlyle alone. She says that she isn’t totally convinced that WFM is out of hot water yet, and wants to be represented in the firm. Carlyle urges her not to quit school, which she agrees is not the way to go. Carlyle seems relived until Allison says “that’s why your going to hire Fred.” Carlyle goes down a few avenues of resistance including the fact he has no relevant experience (she says he can do media press releases, proof reading, etc), he’s not needed (she thinks an outside voice for her interest is needed), and he doesn’t have to hire him (no but if he refuses then she will buy her shares today and force him to). Finally Carlyle relents. They meet Fred out in the hallway and give him the good news.
-Carlyle is having lunch with Barrett at some plush restaurant. He’s thinking of the jogger and looks down at his belly (he’s actually very fit). He asks Barrett to join him for Tennis after lunch to which Barrett gives an uproar of laughter and pats his bigger belly. Carlyle changes the subject and says he doesn’t think the Freaky Links guys were nuts, or the Treasure Trove guys, its just not the sort of deal he wants to be associated with. Barrett says no problem, but he hopes Carlyle doesn’t mind if he funds it himself with a silent partner. Carlyle says that’s fine…and then changes in mid-sentence…”Mason…that’s why you changed your mind..you and Mason? He’s not supposed to have anything to do..” Barrett replies that he can buy into ownership of a privately held firm so its legit. It’s a long shot but if it pays off then it will be a home run. Barrett asks if there have been anymore sightings of Jonas’ “ghost”. Carlyle says no, not since the Freaky Links investigation, the strange occurrences have stopped even though they didn’t find anything.
-Carlyle pounds tennis balls with abandon at the club. Afterward he is toweling off and another young beauty begins to flirt with him, but he gives her no heed.
-Listening to the radio in his BMW on the way back to the office he hears that the Russian mutual fund has been cleared of any wrong doing in the money laundering case. The FBI has determined that like local firm WFM the incidence of multiple clients was just a coincidence. The host says something else but its lost as fire trucks zoom by.
-Carlyle is driving by where “Spy Stuff” is, or rather was as that is where the fire trucks have stopped. The place is ablaze. He stops to watch for a couple minutes as the firemen desperately fight the fire to stop it from spreading. Finally though he is forced by Police to keep moving as they are trying to clear the adjacent streets.
-Back at WFM Barrett and Mason are going over the deal with a couple of executives from Treasure Trove. They own a large parcel of land in the Carribbean that used to be a haven for pirates. There are some caves that due to the proximity to the ocean as well as the softness of the cave walls causes them to shift, collapse and reform over time. Maps have been found and verified to ancient treasure buried in the caves, but the maps are now useless. Logs have been found of many men from the 1400’s to present who have gone in and unsuccessfully attempted to find the treasure. The brothers who now own the land had put up a complex to attract tourists and tour them through to see if they could find any treasure. Despite attempts to keep them in safe zones invariably a few got in trouble and were lost in the late 1990’s. No amount of green across the palm could now convince the local authorites to allow them to keep the Treasure Trove open. They still had the complex but without the thrill of treasure seeking the complex too was soon closed. After several years of convincing the authorites they have been given the right to search again for the treasure but this time with one difference. In the past they did not allow any of the tourists to use any kind of technology to help find the treasure, they were on their own. With the advances in sonar and radar technology over the last 8 years since the tunnels were closed its now a near certainty that a group of well trained and experienced hunters can be sent down with this technology and find anything that needs to be found. The brothers own the land but can not finance the expedition. The hunters are willing to finance it but they want 80% of the find. The brothers say they are willing to give Barrett & Mason 25% of anything found in return for Barrett & Mason funding the expedition. Barrett & Mason discuss it alone for a minute. Barrett sums it up with “either we will make a lot of money or we will end up looking like Geraldo Riviera at Al Capone's vault.” They go for it and sign the deal but they negotiate it up to 33%.
-That night in his condo Carlyle watches the news with Mason, as they describe the Spy Stuff fire as being likely arson, and since the proprietor died inside, its now a murder investigation. Carlyle asks Mason what he knows about it, but Mason says “nothing”. Carlyle asks if he thinks the Russians are involved in this too somehow. Mason says he’s paranoid, throws a couch pillow at his brother and says next it’ll be the CIA out to get him.
-the next day Carlyle is at the office window. He looks at his watch and says “5 minutes”, begins to pace. Suddenly he grabs his suit jacket puts it on, and practically barrels through people in the hall to get to the elevator. The receptionist says under her breath “go get her tiger”. Barrett asks her “what’s with him”. She looks up and says “he has a date”.
-Carlyle bounds out the front doors to the sidewalk, looking for…and collides squarely into her. They both go down in a heap. She looks at him like he is a total creep. He begins to apologize but says something about having watched her from his window for a few days, and that gets her even more freaked out. His cellphone rings and she uses that as a distraction to bound on up the street, while he says wait..wait… Carlyle answers the phone and its Agent Woods. He tells Carlyle that he is in even more danger then ever before despite both WFM and the Russian mutual fund being given a pass. He asks if Carlyle will meet with him one more time so he can explain it further. Carlyle refuses and tells him not to contact him again without a lawyer. Woods seems desperate and says, “the bug..it was CIA”. Carlyle stops him from saying anything further. “I don’t want to know, I’m done with that, it’s time to move on. Don’t call me again”. He hangs up. Brushes himself off and walks back into the building to the elevator.
-As he steps off the elevator into the offices he’s greeted by a Bronx cheer from the waiting staff. Barrett tackles some other office guy and says, “would you like to go out with me Friday night?”.
-Carlyle laughs it off to, and finally flees to the sanctuary of his office. He’s looking out the office window cursing himself when he spots Mason in an alleyway across the street talking animated with a couple guys dressed all in black. They must not like what they hear because they punch him in the gut and throw him into the back of a waiting car which squeals away.

1.09 - "I Can See Clearly Now"
Summary; Mason's abductors force Carlyle into financing a deal for Golden Apple Drilling. Carlyle's attempts to reach Agent Woods of the FBI appear to be futile. Barrett brings in a new client to WFM, a reggae record label owner looking for financing, and when he shares his drug induced visions with Carlyle it is startling given Mason's current problems.
Details; -Carlyle is standing in the empty alley where he last saw Mason, pounding the keys on his cell phone. “darn it it Woods, answer”. “This is agent Woods of the D.C. division of the FBI I’m not available..” “darn it it”.
-As he runs back to the office his phone rings, it’s Mason? “Mason where….” “Shut up Mr .Walsh…” in a thick Russian accent. “If you ever want to see your brother again then you will make sure that the golden apple finds its nest egg” “click”.
-Back in his office Carlyle calls the main line for the FBI, but when they won’t transfer him directly to Woods he refuses to speak to anyone else. He keeps trying Woods.
-Barrett comes into his office along with some reggae looking guy in dreadlocks. He begins to introduce him but Carlyle brushes him off with a “not now”. He keeps trying on his cell.
-Fred pops in next looking for a file, again Carlyle tells him “not now” and closes the door. He keeps trying.
-When the receptionist pops her head in, he just about takes it off, then goes to find another office. On the way he passes the CFO’s office and see’s Fred inside going through some files. It looks odd to Carlyle who questions him on it, but Fred says he was just looking for a certain file. Carlyle tells him to talk to the receptionist next time.
-Barrett comes in and corners Carlyle in the restroom. He asks him what the hell that was about. Carlyle tells him nothing which just irks Barrett even more. We need deals he says and I have one. Are you interested? You’ll need to start with an apology to the client.
-Carlyle meets the reggae dude, Tommy Durine, who owns an upstart Reggae/Salsa/Ska label that just hit America after some success in the Caribbean. They are looking for some mezzanine financing to take their message to the American market. The meeting goes well until Carlyle begins to ask Durine about criminal records and drug use; given what has been happening to WFM lately. Durine and Carlye end up disagreeing over the use of casual drugs and what is “relevant” to the deal. They seem to reach an impasse but Carlyle agrees to meet Durine at his club that evening for dinner and drinks.
-As he emerges Carlyle is handed a thick stack of fax docuents by Fred. When asked about it Fred divulges that it just came over the fax for immediate action. Carlyle glances over it before saying, “oh no..Golden Apple Drilling. This is bad news. Send this over to research and legal tell them to do the due diligence extremely fast. I want them to look for connections to the Russians and to the money launderers WFM has dealt with in the past.”
-Back in his office looking out the window he see’s his beautiful jogger, except this time she is jogging on the other side of the street, and looks at his building in apprehension “Just great” mutters Carlyle.
-Back to the phone, Agent Woods is still not in.
-That evening Durine does his best to loosen Carlyle up, plying him with booze, dancers, and stories of the islands in his club which is predominantly occupied by blacks. Every time his cell phone rings Carlyle jumps a foot in the air and quickly checks it. He excuses himself to go to the restroom and tries Woods again. The second time it goes through but a female voice answers it. Apparently Woods’ calls are being transferred to another agent, who won’t divulge why. Carlyle quickly hangs up.
-When he returns to the table it’s obvious that Durine has been smoking dope. Carlyle has seen enough and gets up to leave. Durine grabs him by the wrist and says sit down. They are close to blows when Durine says, “try some. It’ll clear your mind, get you away from all your troubles.” He nods at Carlyle’s cell phone. “I had a vision. Your brother being pinned down by a giant Bear. You were prodding it with sticks but it didn’t even seem to notice you. In desperation you threw your wallet at its snout. It didn’t help. Some black dude began to shoot at the bear, wounding it, fatally. But the bear falls on your brother…crushing him.” Carlyle is stunned. Finally he just stammers, “your fundamentals are solid..drop by tomorrow…we’ll talk some more.”
-“I Can See Clearly Now” by Jimmy Cliff plays in the car as Carlyle drives away on a dark rainy night. He remembers driving back from the city after seeing a New York Rangers game with his father and brother. The memory turns to remembering his father and Mason bickering back and forth. He then remembers having a drink one night years later with his father Jonas who said to him in a somber moment, “my greatest regret in life is pushing Mason too hard, too fast. You had the luxury of a more forgiving father, one who had learned his lesson well from his earlier failures. Don’t blame Mason..” “Dad, come on, we all make choices. He’s a bad apple.” “No, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree son..” at which point Jonas let out a rather loud, drunk sounding laugh, and then excused himself from the room.
-The next day Fred brings the reports back to Carlyle, looking incredulous. “The diligence on Golden Apple has come up clean.” Carlyle tells Fred to go ahead and get the deal financed, the due diligence should be enough to cover their butts if anything goes wrong.
-Carlyle meets with Durine and Barrett and Barrett keeps kidding Carlyle that he must have smoked some serious weed last night to come around to the deal. Durine spots a family picture and picks it up, and runs his fingers over Mason’s picture. He inquires about the picture but Carlyle doesn’t say much. When they shake hands Durine wishes Carlyle “peace” and offers his help any way that Carlyle needs (prompting another whacky tobacy joke from Barrett).
-Carlyle closes his office door and pours himself a drink. Just as he’s about to have a sip the receptionist pages him. “Mr. Carlyle there are some agents up front here to see you. From the FBI.” "No sir, Agent Woods is not one of them".

1.10 - "Loose Ends"
Summary; Barrett gets more then he can handle when he brings on an Artsy client. Carlyle is questioned by the FBI about both his relationship with Agent Woods and the arson at Spy Stuff. With no leads on the Russians Carlyle decides to take the direct approach to get information. Fred does more snooping raising suspicions, and he lies on the phone to his girlfriend Allison.
Details; -A female FBI agent, Agent Evans, is accompanied by another field agent. They meet with Carlyle in the boardroom. They grill Carlyle about his recent contacts with Agent Woods and his attempts to reach him. Carlye’s own questions about Woods' whereabouts go unacknowledged. They turn the questioning over to the arson and murder over at Spy Stuff. He tells them about driving by and that he had purchased some security items for his apartment there. They ask about the timing of the calls right after the fire to Woods, and Carlyle says it was a coincidence. They give him the standard line of stay in town, we’ll be in touch.
-Barrett is giving a tour to a very “folksy-artsy” looking lady in her 50’s, Miss Elsie McMahon who has an Arts & Crafts boutique chain of over 50 stores and is working on a buyout of a southeastern chain of 14 stores. She tells Carlyle and Barrett the reason she has come to WFM is that they are a boutique like her. Barrett rolls his eyes behind her back.
-The receptionist corners Carlyle in his office and reports to him several cases of Allison’s boyfriend Fred having been found looking at files he isn’t working on. Carlyle suggests that maybe he is just familiarizing himself with the firm, but promises to look into it. Once she has left the room Carlyle calls the IT guy and asks him to log everything that Fred does today and send it to his Palm tonight.
-Carlyle calls a private investigator in for a meeting. He tells him that his brother has been abducted, possibly by the Russians, and are blackmailing him into doing something in exchange for the release of his brother. Carlye says he can't go the authorities because then the SEC would move into the firm to make sure they weren't compromised. The P.I. stand up and tells Carlyle he can keep his money. He wants nothing to do with any Russian mob interests. Carlyle asks him to recommend someone else, and he tells him he knows one guy, he’ll let him know and if he’s interested he’ll contact Carlyle.
-Carlyle goes to the tennis club after lunch to hit some balls. He’s really smacking them around, obviously out of frustration not concentrating on what he is doing.
-Barrett is seen at the offices trying to pawn off Miss Elsie McMahon first on the young CFO (who seems kind of scared of people), then on a junior trader. He says she’s driving him crazy with her decorative ideas. Finally, he escapes to the washroom where he pulls out his cell and tries Carlyle. The CEO just laughs at Barrett and tells him to deal with it, or call his wife. Barrett likes that idea and calls his wife at home begging her to come to the office for a couple hours to talk shopping and decorating with this loon.
-Fred is in his office and he takes a call from his girlfriend Allison Walsh. She seems to want to chat, but he gives her the brush off telling her he’s too busy, that her brother is really putting him through the paces making him earn his keep. We see that he is analyzing some press releases on screen about Golden Apple Drilling.
-Carlyle enters a prestigious looking office building and asks to speak to Mr. Anderson, the head of the Russian Edge Mutual Fund. The receptionist tries to tell him he needs an appointment to which Carlyle says he has a message involving money laundering Russian mobsters that he needs to give to someone. If Mr. Anderson is unavailable then I will just have to tell you instead. She looks a bit pale and asks for a moment.
-Back at WFM we see Miss McMahon and Barret’s wife Mrs Steadings getting along wonderfully as they plan the redesign of the WFM offices while Barrett hides in a cubicle pretending to work the phones.
-When the receptionist returns she shows Carlyle into the office. After the door is closed Carlye introduces himself and asks him for his contact names with the Russians, the illicit ones. He needs to find them as they have something of his. Anderson just laughs it off telling Carlyle not to be a fool. He makes the mistake of turning his back to Carlyle in a show of disrespect and the younger CEO grabs Anderson in a rear chokehold and pushes his head onto the desk. He frees up one hand and tells Anderson to write down the names or he will make sure to stir up more problems for his firm with the Russians. Anderson finally relents and gives Carlyle one name. His contact is Archie Hammon (the host of “For My Money”). Carlyle is so shocked he releases Anderson who immediately gets to his feet and orders Walsh from his office. He warns Carlyle he is getting in over his head with the Russians, that they will kill him.

1.11 - "Golden Apples"
Summary; The Golden Apple Drilling deal begins to fall apart putting Mason's life in jeopardy. Fred is discovered to be a spy. Carlyle has to leave town against FBI orders. The truth about the whereabouts of Agent Woods is discovered, and its bad news for Carlyle.
Details; -Barrett comes rushing into Carlyle’s office. “The price of Golden Apple Drilling is sinking fast.” Carlyle slams his fists on his desk, “SOB’s. Get Fred in here.”
-Carlyle tells Fred he has been watching him and he knows what he has been up to. Fred says he's just looking after Allison’s family interests but Carlyle isn’t buying the line. He tells him he knows he has been working the Golden Apple deal to make sure it goes through, and that he even rushed the due diligence the first time around so that the Russian connections would be hidden. He asks Fred who he works for the Russians or the Feds. Fred stops the denial and tells Carlyle if he doesn’t play ball with these guys his brother Mason will be dead. Barrett is stunned by this and for the first time Carlyle fills in Barrett about Mason’s kidnapping. Carlyle tells Fred to leave the building and to never go near his sister again.
-Carlyle arrives at a TV station and demands to speak to Archie Hammon. He accuses Archie of having connections to the Russians and using his show to further their positions. He denies it and tells Carlyle to keep his mouth shut or his lawyers will ruin him and his firm.
-Carlyle receives a phone call from a PI that was the referral. He tells Carlyle that he already knows what’s going on, and not to talk about it. He says his price is $2000 a day plus expenses. When Carlyle agrees he tells him he will call in a day or two.
-Carlyle and Barrett are off to the airplane, and go over their schedule of stops on this roadshow to try to sell Golden Apple and drive the price back up.
-They meet with a friendly firm in Boston, and lie saying they don’t know why the stock price is going down but that they are buying a bigger share and encouraging their partners to do the same.
-In a Boston hotel room that night Carlyle receives a phone call from the PI and is told to come back to NYC and meet him at the Four Seasons. Carlyle tells Barrett it is up to him tomorrow to finish the selling job in Hartford.
-The next day Barrett speaks to the executives of an insurance firm with an investment arm. He seems very nervous without Carlyle and comes off more as a snakeoil salesman then an investment banker.
-Carlyle waits beside the PI in the hotel. They are watching as Archie checks out. Carlyle leaves the PI sitting down and approaches Archie. “Well hello Archie. How are you?” Archie looks surprised and flustered. They move away from the desk for some privacy. Carlyle asks him again about the Russians but Archie still won’t budge. Slowly Carlyle makes him squirm as he lays it out. Who’s the girl you were with last night? Does your wife know about her? The front desk clerks tell me that you are “comp” whenever you stay here? Didn’t you recommend Four Seasons stock on your show? That seems like a conflict of interest to me. Archie caves as he is attacked on both fronts. He tells Carlyle that he has enough power to make the Golden Apple stock rise again tomorrow with a recommendation. He tells Carlyle though that to make it work he will have to go to their American headquarters in Dallas and do a press conference in the morning. Carlyle agrees.
-That next morning Carlyle and Barrett are on the front steps of the Golden Apple Drilling company’s American HQ in Dallas making a statement that they have personally gone through the operation and are proud to be doing business with them.
-That afternoon as they fly back they watch “For My Money” on the financial channel on the plane. Archie is pimping Golden Apple and replays part of the press conference.
-As the two step off the plane, ribbing each other about the presentation, they are confronted by the FBI agents who had questioned Carlyle after the Spy Stuff fire. The female lead agent says, “Welcome back to town Mr. Walsh”. They say that because he left he has forced their hand, they can’t wait any longer. They place Carlyle under arrest for the murder of Agent Woods. Carlyle is floored, and tells Barrett to call the lawyer.

1.12 Good Samaritan -Carlyle is shown in custody being questioned by Agent Evans. She is pressing him about why he tried to call Agent Woods so many times after discovering the Spy Stuff store had burned down. Carlyle confers with his lawyer before responding, “no comment”. She presses some more and finally Carlyle cracks. “Why would I call him if I knew he was dead? I had nothing to do with this stuff.” The lawyer grimaces, and Evans asks for another round of coffees, “this is going to be longer then I thought. Now Mr. Walsh, why do you think Agent Woods died before the fire?” - Barrett is meeting with a very elderly man (Mr. Dillon) regarding a real estate deal. The man lives on the edge of a bad block, which has slowly filled up with crack houses and vacant buildings. He is attempting to buy the entire block and sell units in a condominium complex to be built on the spot. Barrett says the deal is a bit out of WFM’s normal sandbox but that because of the good will involved in the deal, and the cause, that they would lend their full resources. -Allison comes sweeping into the office and informs the senior staff that she will be setting up in Carlyle’s office for the time being until this issue gets resolved. Nobody voices any concerns, most look unimpressed however, especially the long term receptionist. -Barrett and Allison watch on TV a replay of Archie Hammon’s vote of confidence for Golden Apple Drilling along with an update that the issue is selling well. Allison asks if there is any update on Mason, but there isn’t. -Carlyle and his lawyer return after a short consultation in a side room. They have decided it is in Carlyle’s best interests to tell Evans everything, that it will show that Carlyle was co-operating with the FBI as much as he could and that Woods and Carlyle were on good terms. Carlyle begins, “it all started when I found that my office was being bugged.” -Barrett & Allison are meeting with the elderly gentleman (Mr. Dillon). They are going over some bad press. Some city councilors don’t want the condo complex to go through. They say it will just displace the problem. Instead they propose that Mr. Dillon go lower end housing and also fund a shelter. Mr. Dillon gets more irate after each sentence, before finally resigning himself to the problem. He tells the WFM duo that he knows what is really behind this and he will take care of it. -A pretty woman walks into reception (it must be after hours because the receptionist is gone) and Barrett and Allison are the only remaining staff. She asks for Carlyle (we recognize her as the jogger he liked but they don’t know her). Barrett & Allison exchange uneasy glances before saying that he is ill. She passes them a card and asks that they give it to him, and that he wanted to meet with her the other day. She laughs and says we kind of bumped into each other. Allison though doesn’t seem to like the cut of her, and after she leaves she tosses the card in the garbage. Of course Barrett retrieves it behind her back and says “smoking!” -The next day and Carlyle is back in the offices meeting with Barrett & Allison. He says that there are no charges pending at this time and that Agent Evans is looking into everything a little different now. They all confer that there has been no word on Mason but that the Golden Apple deal is still in the stretch drive. Carlyle talks about how Archie Hammon was good on his word and came through, but that the press conference in front of the Golden Apple HQ was probably his idea, because that’s how the FBI knew he left town and that’s why they took him in for questioning. It’s obvious that Carlyle doesn’t consider things to be squared away with the financial TV host yet. Carlyle wishes Allison well back at college but she looks unhappy to be leaving. -That evening as Barrett sits back and has a drink across the street at “Bullworks Bar” he is met by Mr. Dillon. The client informs him that the protests by the councilors will be withdrawn and the project can go ahead. When asked what made them change their minds the client smiles and says I compromised on their conditions. I purchased a rather stately large building in an influential end of town, in fact it was only a half block from the councilors, and was about to offer it up as a half way home for prostitutes and drug addicts. They didn’t like that too much. They tap glasses and give a toast to capitalism. Mr. Dillon is somber when he says, “problem is they are also right. It will only displace the problem not solve it. It solves my problem, and I make some more money, and you make some more money, but nothing is really accomplished.” -On the other side of the bar a dapper looking Carlyle is talking on his cell phone. He apologizes for being such a clutz and knocking her over. Yes he would like to go out some time. Run? No, do you play tennis by chance? Great. Well unfortunately I am kind of tied up for a couple days taking care of my brother. Yes I’m in town this weekend, we can get together then. -Allison on the phone driving back to college. “Yes, make the pledges and then drw up the papers. I’ve decided I want my share of the firm.”
