episode guide
1.01 - "The Follower; Pilot (1)" (2011) The Follower bumps into an intoxicated Dana coming out of the bar with a guy she just met (Tyson). Something seems to click inside him and instead of going into the bar he turns on his heels and begins to follow her. The drunk couple lead him to a New York apartment block with limited wealth and even more limited security. Dana appears to be a mess, some baggage she is working through and one night stands are nothing new to her. The Follower also gets on the scent of a young financier Robbie Valentine who is currently dating an intern at work; the intern works for the powerful chairman of the board and has been trying to get his hands on her for himself. Robbie worries what would happen to his position at the firm if the Chairman found out. Finally we meet an intriguing young man Chicago Bothwell who appears to be Dana's only friend in the world and picks her up when she is down (and out). He has words with Tyson, a shoving match, which the Follower witnesses and almost steps into. Cooler heads prevail and after a beer at the local corner spot Chicago believes that Tyson might just be good for Dana and appears to be a nice young man. The follower though is not convinced.
1.02 - "The Follower; Pilot (2)" (2011) Dana continues to date Tyson who works as a nightclub bouncer, a combination which seems to just get her into more trouble. Tyson tries to reign her in but it is apparent that they both have too much baggage. Robbie and Chicago meet through Dana in the building and hit it off at first. But Robbie's girlfriend from the firm gets the creeps from Chicago so Robbie backs off. We meet Madyson Walters a glamorous girl trying to make it as a model, and is currently dating a much older man, a well off financier with the connections to make her dreams come true. We also meet her friend from the building Grace Prefontaine, with the face of an angel, but whose dreams of modelling have been put on hold while she works two jobs as a waitress and is in a serious relationship with Jose, from Latin America; a relationship of which her parents strongly disapprove. Near the end of the episode Dana and Tyson are having a drunken arguement and the Follower tries to interceed but when Dana sees him approaching she gets freaked out, steps off the curb. Tyson saves her but ends up getting hit by a Taxi and is lying motionless as the Dana calls 9-1-1 and the Follower flees to the sounds of sirens.
1.03 - "Vigil" (2011) Dana is on bedside vigil as Tyson lies in a coma after getting hit by the taxi. Robbie and his girlfriend drop by to visit Dana at the hospital while Chicago is already there. The girl has a side word with Chicago saying she can tell he is gay and that he's interested in her boyfriend Robbie; and to back off. Chicago doesn't deny it. At the apartment Madyson's rich older boyfriend comes to visit, and bumps into Robbie, one of his employees, and the one dating his intern who he covets. A nurse from another ward (Riley Gander) bumps into a grieving Dana, they recognize each other from the apartment block and begin to talk. Dana confides that her best friend died tragically a couple years ago and that she blames herself. This revelation seems to throw the Follower into a rage, as he exits the hospital, and after a block of two of honking taxi's and cars, he drags a rude driver out of his vehicle and punches him out.
1.04 - "Watching over You" (2011) The Follower intercedes in the background to keep Mr. Goodbarr from getting between Robbie and his girlfriend Patricia. Chicago tries to rekindle his friendship with Robbie against Patricia's wishes. When Tyson is moved to a long-term facility still in a coma, Riley helps Dana join a therapy group. Madyson gets the impression that Mr. Goodbarr is only leading her on and won't help with her career after all. Grace and Jose find out that Jose's parents also do not approve of their relationship.
1.05 - "Forgiveness is Hard" (2011) Dana reveals to her group that she was driving drunk and they got in an accident that killed her best friend, and ever since then she has been a wreck. Things come to a head between Madyson and Goodbarr, and he manages to land her a modelling gig. Grace decides to invite her parents down to New York for dinner in one last attempt to sell them on Jose, but it's a lost cause and things don't end amicably. The Follower sends Dana a bunch of Daffodils anonymously (signifying forgiveness).
1.06 - "Amends" (2011) Madyson is nervous at her big shoot so one of the other girls talks her into taking a snort of cocaine which does not go well for her and she gets fired. Mr. Goodbarr is furious with Madyson. The pressures on Grace and Jose prove to be too much and it ends in an explosive fight. The Follower sneaks in to see Tyson but is approached by Riley as she also goes to check on the comatose patient after her shift. Dana tries to call the Father of her friend that died in the drunk driver accident, to make ammends, but he won't answer the phone. Chicago meets a new friend (a firefighter) at a gay club and it temporarily takes his mind off of Robbie.
1.07 - "The Unknown Third" (2011) Mr. Goodbarr guilts Madyson into going away with him for a weekend, but when a 3rd girl shows up as part of Goodbarr's fantasy weekend Madyson says goodbye. Jose tries to win back Grace's love. Unwilling to accept not being called back Dana and Riley go on a roadtrip to Vermont to visit her dead friend's Father. They find the house, for which she still has a key, deserted and in neglect, with her friend's room untouched. Robbie bumps into Chicago's firefighter boyfriend in the hall but doesn't but remains oblivious to the relationship and Chicago's orientation. However, Robbie's girlfriend Patricia decides to have some fun at Chicago's expense that ends up driving the firefighter away. The Follower, having discreetly tailed Dana and Riley goes back into his home and breaks down in tears; and then rage.
1.08 - "The Vortex" (2011) Dana looks for a new/better job at a newspaper but they are not hiring so she starts her own anonymous blog to sharpen her journalistic skills. Jose's parents agree to come meet Grace but she is not willing and stands them up. Chicago hunts down his ex-squeeze but when he confronts the firefighter at his work it turns into a very ugly scene. However, the firefighter does reveal Patricia's actions that drove him away. Madyson goes clubbing and after taking cocaine again calls Dana for help. However instead of simply helping her Dana finds herself sucked into the vortex and also does cocaine, joining her friend in the abyss. The Follower is not happy and as the show concludes he breaks into Madyson's apartment.
1.09 - "Subdue" (2011) The Follower waits until Madyson is asleep and then subdues her and ties her up. He tells her this is her punishment for taking drugs, and giving her friends drugs; then he leaves. Tyson's parents hire a private investigator to look into his accident, and he soon finds the lead that Dana was frightened by an approaching stranger to be incredulous and questions her about her actions, in a hostile manner. Chicago starts an investigation of his own, prying into the life of Robbie's girlfriend Patricia, looking for revenge. When Madyson won't answer her phone Mr. Goodbar convinces Dana to use her spare key to open the door and they find Madyson tied up. They want to call the police but Madyson accuses Mr. Goodbarr of doing the deed which he denies.
1.10 - "Restraint" (2011) Seeing all her new friends in relationships Riley signs up for a speed dating session. While she meets one guy she likes, another guy takes special note of her. Madyson decides to file a restraining order against Mr. Goodbarr who is furious because it tarnishes his good name. To make matters worse Goodbarr catches Robbie and Patricia having sex at the office after hours, thanks to a tip from Chicago. Grace meets a new guy at the restaurant and considers dating him. Dana continues in her quest to connect with her deceased friend's Father to no avail. The P.I. working for Tyson's family tells Dana he will track the man down if she will come clean about what happened to Tyson. Dana agrees but warns the P.I. it may not be what he wants to hear.
1.11 - "Ultimatum" (2012) Dana alludes to the Katch tragedy in her blog which brings out a reader/responder who seems to know too much about the tragedy and wants Dana to tell all. Grace bumps into Jose while she is with her new squeeze and Jose is with a new girlfriend. Things get even more intense when Jose points out that Grace's new boyfriend is black, while his new girlfriend is hispanic. Grace tells him it was not about race it was about how they reacted to the challenge as a couple. Riley's date with her speed date guy does not go well at all, and with no second date in site she receives flowers from an anonymous source. Given the choice by Mr Goodbarr to give up his girlfriend Patricia or his job at the firm, Robbie chooses to leave his job. This freaks out Patricia however who is too career orientated to understand that so she breaks off the relationship before he can quit. Mr. Goodbarr files suit against Madyson for defamation which threatens to bankrupt and ruin her. The P.I. is frustrated in his attempts to track down Paul Katch; and even more frustrated when his new truck goes up in flames (thanks to the Follower).
1.12 - "Sleep Well" (2012) Dana reveals her role in the Katch tragedy which brings on a firestorm of protest on her blog including death threats, and she is forced to close down the blog. Afraid she will relapse she calls Riley, Grace, and Madyson over for a sleepover. That only lasts until the Follower cuts the power and telephone to the building, sending the girls into "ghost story" mode instead.
1.13 - "Awkward" (2012) 2.0/6 6.33 Madyson visits Mr Goodbarr at his office dressed quite scantily. Madyson says goodbye to Mr Goodbarr. Dana lands a job at the mayor's office in the policy writing department, which has her putting in long hours. A strange man contrives to bump into Riley, and points out he was one of the guys from the speed dating. He asks her out, she declines but agrees to take his number. Robbie is also putting in long hours at the office after being dumped by Patricia trying to bury his misery with work. Chicago shows up unexpectently at Robbie's office with a six pack. Easy conversation though leads Chicago on and when he makes a pass at Robbie and is shot down things get awkward before Chicago leaves. 1.14 - "Contact" (2012) 2.1/6 6.92 Robbie is still freaked out by Chicago's pass at him so the two men try to avoid each other at the apartment block. When the 3rd wheel makes a pass at Robbie late night at his office Robbie turns her down at first, not wanting to get on the bad side of Mr Goodbarr again, but after he remembers Chicago he takes her up on the office; and the two of them have sex on Mr Goodbarr's desk. Madyson renews her efforts to find work as a model but has no luck; so she turns to doing some fetish work that is supposed to be sent to Japan. Dana starts to uncover some rotten practices at the mayor's office but is told to keep her head down and her mouth shut; or the Mayor will shut it for her. Grace is surprised when her parents give their approval of her new boyfriend (John) despite the fact he is black. Their approval stuns Grace so badly that John takes it like she wanted to upset Mommy & Daddy which causes him to take a step back in their relationship. 3rd Wheel taunts Patricia telling her Robbie is the best she ever had, which causes Patricia to spread the rumor around the office that Robbie and Chicago had sex here in the office. Chicago is so upset he goes to his favorite gay bar looking for a one night stand; and finds it. With the P.I. closing in on his whereabouts the Follower makes a drastic decision; he picks up the phone and calls Dana, telling her that he was out of the country and knows she was looking for him.
1.15 - "By the Throat" (2012) 1.9/5 6.25 Madyson starts to get many more job offers but most of them are too racy to accept. Dana's joy at being contacted by Paul Katch is snuffed out by his distance and coldness; she gets the feeling he is not doing well and wants to meet him, which he refuses. When Dana tells the P.I. that Paul contacted her already so she doesnt need to tell him anything he grows suspicious. To get him off her case Dana tells the P.I. the truth is that nothing happened untoward on the night Tyson was hit; it was exactly like the police report says. Again the P.I. questions her about the stranger but she has nothing else to say. She tries to put him down gently but when he gets aggressive she responds in kind. A shaken Riley confides in Dana who makes an offhanded remark to her friend that if she had a stalker she would kill him first; even though she tries to retract her words they are upsetting both to Riley and the Follower. 1.16 - "Road to Recovery" (2012) The police question Robbie, the spurned lover, over the death of Patricia. To make matters worse Mr. Goodbarr uses it as an excuse to fire Robbie. Madyson's racy modelling jobs come back to haunt her when a company uses footage in local internet ads and she starts to get recognized in public. When questioned by police Chicago tells them that Robbie has an explosive temper, something he has witnessed first hand. They ask him to press charges against Robbie for the elevator assault so they can put more pressure on him, but Chicago says he'll think about it. Dana considers leaving her job at the mayor's office but she gets a pep talk from the deputy mayor himself about change, and being in the right spot 2 years from now when the Mayor's term ends. The girls go to a hockey game (the Kings) to take their minds off of things, and of course the Follower also buys a ticket. There is a moment when the camera scans the crowd and the Follower is shown on the jumbo tron behind a little girl, and it catches the eye of Dana and Riley who both recognize him. But before they can compare notes Riley gets a text from a friend at the hospital "Tyson Dornn is out of his coma!!".
1.17 - "Surrogate" (2012) Dana and Riley's excitement at Tyson coming out of a coma is dampened by his long road to recovery ahead and his parents' putting the blame for the accident on Dana. Robbie and Madyson both feeling sorry for themselves have a one night stand which leaves neither of them feeling better. Chicago starts getting pressured by the police to press charges against Robbie, and when he decides not to, they begin to harrass him. Word of her deceipt gets back to the deputy mayor who is displeased. As Grace and John get closer in their relationship she still finds herself obsessing over her parents' unwillingness to accept Jose but having their blessing with John. Grace's efforts to meet John's parents are met with stonewalling. The Follower decides to go to a therapist to start to unburden himself, and while he talks about the feelings he has of Dana and his daughter, he stays away from discussing his recent stalking of the group. The therapist suggests to Paul that he is using Dana as a surrogate for his daughter.
1.18 - "Abducted" (2012) The deputy mayor gets Dana to join him after work for drinks and is quite flirtatious. Dana is uncomfortable with this, especially since he is a married man, but he doesnt actually push it, and with her job in the balance just goes along with it. The police bring Robbie in again for questioning and continue until he finally asks for a lawyer. Chicago is hit on by a man at the gay bar only for the man to reveal he is an undercover cop. He reaches into Chicago's pocket and pulls out a small bag of Meth, and says it would be so easy to bust Chicago, and warns him one more time to play ball on the Patricia investigation. The Follower has flashbacks remembering his daughter, and Dana, and once again breaks down in tears. Coming home from work Riley is abducted by her stalker and taken away in a cargo van at the conclusion of the episode.

The police begin to investigate Riley's disappearance but are still not taking it too serious. Tyson is able to start communicating through a special computer halo mechanism and asks Dana about the shadowy figure they saw that night; its the last thing he remembers.
1.20 - "In Conclusion (2)" (2012) Grace and John go for a vacation down to the Carolinas where they are surprised by the level of hostility shown to them for being a black and white couple. The police arrest Robbie for assault on Chicago, which he openly admits to before his lawyer arrives to shut him up. The police add a new wrinkle in their persecution of Robbie; accusing him of having something to do with the disappearance of Riley. Madyson pays a late night visit to the deputy mayor at his office and the two have sex on his couch. Afterward Madyson tells him she is a friend of Dana's, to leave Dana alone or she will tell his wife, but if he wants Madyson to come back just call her. The deputy mayor gives Dana the arena footage she was looking for as his apology and she manages to isolate a semi-shadowy and grainy image of The Follower but fails to recognize him (saying only "he looks so familiar"). The Follower breaks into Dana's apartment and steals her laptop and the footage. He then mails an anonymous note to the deputy mayor not to give Dana the footage again or else his wife will find out about his affairs. The season concludes with the police pulling Riley's body out of the Hudson River. She has been strangled to death.
2.01 - "The Return of Mr. Goodbarr" (2012) 1.8/5 5.72 Sep 18/2012 The Police have released Robbie due to a lack of evidence, and their doubts that he had anything to do wth Riley's strangulation death. However as the only link between Patricia and Riley is this small group of friends the entire group is all put on notice by the cops they are being watched. Dana tells the cops about the shadowy figure, about having a screen shot of him and her lap top being stolen, but they tell her she has been watching too many conspiracy shows. Chicago can't face his friends and hides out in his apartment and starts looking for a new place to live. John takes Grace to meet his Dad and she understands why he was so hesitant before. The mayor steps down amidst financial scandal, and the deputy whispers to Dana to be ready to move up. Mr. Goodbarr returns in a flurry having bought the apartment block that the group lives in.
2.02 - "Tainted Love" (2012) 1.6/5 4.86 Sep 25/2012 The police come up with a new theory, that it is Chicago that killed both women. Patricia was due to revenge and jealousy over Robbie, and Riley was the groups confidant so she probably knew about the crime. They interrogate him but do not press charges. John proposes marriage to Grace who is unsure about such a huge step. Dana is shocked when instead of a promotion the city clears house at the mayor's office as many are unfairly tainted by the financial mess. Tyson's parents call Dana saying he is doing his physical therapy and would like her to visit. She is reluctant and realizes that its because the hospital reminds her of Riley. Madyson takes a modelling job off the internet that she is weary about, but Chicago promises to go for her safety. However, after being questioned by the police Chicago goes to the bar instead and when Madyson shows up for the job unknown to her the photographer is the stalker who killed Riley.
