Another Teen Vampire Show; 2013-14 Season Preview
Liberty television has announced that Another Teen Vampire Show will return for its 2nd season on September 16th at 8:30pm as part of the Monday night 2 hour sit-com block.
The satarical show features Juliet (Cree Ivey) and her brother Austin (Brett Kelly) who live with their square dentist father "Dad" (Patrick Fabian) having moved to Idyllic, California after the death of their mother "Mom" (Stacey Dash). The teens soon find that the town is not ideal and is over run with vampires, werewolves and other things that go bump in the night. At the end of season 1 Juliet discovers that their deceased Mother is apparently a Vampire now in Idyllic. New this season will also be 3 new female neighbors who all meddle in the family business while hiding their real motives.
The show's demos started okay with a 1.1, immediately dropped to a 0.9 for episode 2 but soon picked up to the 1.2 range, with a few 1.3 thrown in for good measure. The ratings low occured on October 1st episode 3 which scored a 0.9/2 3.60, while the season high was episode 1.14 on Jan 21st which scored a 1.3/3 4.50. The show's average rating for the season's 22 episode run ended up being 1.15 demo in the same Monday 8:30pm time slot that it returns to for its sophmore season. Most industry observers belive the show needs to maintain its end ratings of around a 1.2 demo to get renewed, and possibly even need to rise to the 1.4 range.
The competition in that slot last year was Dancing with the Stars on ABC, Partners/encores/Rules of Engagement on CBS, 90210/Carrie Diaries on CW, Bones on FOX, The Voice/Biggest Loser on NBC. It was an interesting timeslot for ATVS because it was weak except for reality shows and had an opportunity to score with the younger viewers that the show was aiming for. It was also fortunate when it ran against a weak CBS follow up from the 8pm How I Met Your Mother. Finally it also ran against CW's 90210, which along with Everwood and Teen Wolf were the most lampooned shows on ATVS.
This season the competition at that same time slot will change a bit with ABC still having DWTS, FOX still with Bones, and NBC still having The Voice. However, CBS has tapped We Are Men as the newest sit-com to follow HIMYM, and CW puts in Hart of Dixie. FOX has also shown that Bones will be replaced mid-season by new show Almost Human. Overal it doesn't appear that the timeslot has become more competitive and the Liberty TV executive suite fully expects ATVS to improve on its ratings and score the 1.4 they are looking for.
Behind the scenes the show remains the same with Craig Mazin as executive producer and Sarah Cruz as the one who runs the show as Producer.
The show has somewhat surprisingly already been given a full 22 episode order.
