River City Wrestling #641 November 2, 1996 Winnipeg, Manitoba
17th Anniversary show announcement for Winnipeg on December 14th, at the Convention Centre. World famous, former NWA tag champions Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, the Rock 'n Roll Express have been signed for the event. No word yet on who their opponent will be.
Hour #1
Opening Bout Manny Silva defeated Elmwood Brawler by pinfall after a wheelbarrow suplex at 2:45 **Silva came to the ring pissed off, attacked Brawler before the opening bell, and made short work of him.
Post-Match: Silva threw Brawler out of the ring, then when the ref put hands on him he punched him in the head and tossed him over the top rope too. Silva then threw Brawler across the table, grabbed a mic and smashed both announcers over the head with it. Not done, when a fan threw a soda at him he grabbed the fan and dragged him over the guardrail and pulled him into the ring. Two security guards tried to stop Silva so he tossed them too. Silva then put the fan into a chokehold and yelled that he wanted Jim Brunzell out here or he would break the fan's neck. When commissioner Jim Brunzell came down to the ring Silva told him he was going to pay for putting him down to curtain jerker status. He challenged Brunzell to settle it like men in the ring. Finally Brunzell relented telling Silva they would do battle at the Anniversary Show. Satisfied Silva released his captive and left the ring.
Bout #2 Teagan Clive defeated Kawasuki by pinfall after a float over suplex at 4:04 **Clive looks legit, she has the physical presence and the charisma to be a star.
Bout #3 Jesse Hennig defeated Stan Baker by countout at 1:52 **a strange night got even stranger. Baker and Hennig were to lock up one more time, the former tag partners, most recently pitted against each other in a 3 way match against Vance Nevada. Baker complained to the ref, then left the ring, Hennig goaded him on. They locked up a couple times, then Baker just walked out. He was heard yelling that he was done wrestling his ex-partner. Get him somebody new or he is done.
Bout #4 Kat LeRoux defeated Kelly Gallant by submission to a figure-four leglock at 7:39 **Gallant controlled early but LeRoux is much more experienced and just bided her time to turn the tables.
Hour #2
Bout #5 Lewis O'Day & Greg Valentine defeated Ludvig Borga & Gothic Knight by submission to the sleeperhold at 7:10 **Knight was the weak link in this bout and Borga seemed to be more interested in playing mind games then fighting. In the end after Lewis had set it up, Valentine put the sleeper on Knight. The win looked inevitable, but rather then try and break it up Borga went around the outside of the ring and pulled O'Day off the apron and began a beat down. Valentine could see what was happening but allowed it to go on as Knight was fading. As soon as the win was given Valentine went to make the save, as Borga high tailed it to the back.
Bout #6 RCW Tag Team Title Match Todd Bullett & Robbie Royce defeated Wolfgang Haessler & Untermenschen by pinfall when Royce pinned Haessler after a missile dropkick at 6:34 [Todd Bullett & Robbie Royce retained the RCW Tag Team Titles] **rematch for the former champs but they could not get back the titles.
Main Event RCW Heavyweight Title Match Stan Lane defeated Vance Nevada by pinfall after a superkick at 5:35 [Stan Lane retained the RCW Heavyweight Title] **Nevada is looking crazier every day. He started the match by attacking Lane before the bell. He kind of lucked into his win last week in a 3 way match against Baker and Hennig and that's why he received this title shot, despite being a curtain jerker for a couple years here in RCW. That early momentum from the attack allowed him to take control for the first 3 minutes, in and out of the ring. However, once Lane got back control he took over the match, and soon nailed his finisher.
Post-Match: Vance Nevada was knocked out cold, and was extremely wobbly as he tried to stand after the ref woke him. He stumbled and fell between the ropes, and the EMT's had to come out and give him aid before taking him off on a stretcher.

River City Wrestling #642 November 9, 1996 Winnipeg, Manitoba
Hour #1
Opening Bout Manny Silva defeated Jesse Hennig by pinfall after a wheelbarrow suplex at 5:01 **Commissioner Jim Brunzell perhaps playing mind games with Silva before their match at the 17th Anniversary Spectacular. Silva having complained about being made a curtain jerker last week is placed in the same spot in the rotation this week, albeit against a much tougher opponent. In fact after some good back and forth Hennig just kind of lost momentum and was picked off easy by Silva.
Post-Match: Silva refused to be interviewed, so when they tried to interview Hennig instead he also refused, quite abruptly.
Bout #2 Kelly Gallant defeated Kawasuki by pinfall after a German suplex at 3:36 **one of those matches who's sole purpose other then to eat up time seems to be to set the pecking order in the rankings. Kawasuki is on an unimpressive losing streak.
Bout #3 David Jericho defeated Stan Baker by countout at 4:49 **Baker started strong, had the match in hand. However, Jericho made a short comeback and after being dropkicked out of the ring, for some reason Baker just slammed his hands on the ring apron, tossed a chair around ringside, and took the countout.
Bout #4 #1 Contenders Match Kat LeRoux defeated Megan Clive by submission to the figure-four leglock at 5:31 **For once the exposed turnbuckle ploy done by the rulebreaker actually worked, with Clive ending up going head first into the buckle. LeRoux decided to end the bout with her regular finisher anyway but at that point it was fairly elementary.
Hour #2
Bout #5 Todd Bullett defeated Gothic Knight by pinfall after a missile dropkick at 5:22 **tough bout for one half of the tag team champions Bullett, against the rougher Knight. However in the end skill and agility won the day.
Post-Match: As Bullett had his hand raised, Jesse Hennig slid into the ring. This confused everyone and Gothic Knight left the ring but Bullett and Hennig just kind of stated at each other as Bullett asked him what he wanted. Finally, just as Stan Baker slid into the ring behind Bullett, Hennig responded "our tag titles back". And the two on one beat down with Hennig and Baker began. It would seem that the former partners have put aside their differences, ones that began with Nick Bockwinkel, and have decided to team up again where they had the most success.
Bout #6 RCW Television Title Match Lewis O'Day and Ludvig Borga battled to a no-contest at 7:16 [Lewis O'Day retained the RCW Television Title] **an absolute brawl, with very little scientific merit whatsoever. In the end neither man would follow the ref's instructions and he threw the bout out. Of course they continued to brawl outside the ring until security managed to break it up.
17th Anniversary Spectacular Update Commissioner Jim Brunzell came to the ring to give everyone an update on the December 14th show, the biggest event of the year. So far he himself (Brunzell) is signed to take on Manny Silva. The Rock 'n Roll Express: Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson will also be on hand, no opponent named for them yet; but that big announcement will come next week! North American Women's Champion Julie Strain will defend her title at the event against none other then former two time Women's champion, Madusa Micelli. Brunzell also says that based on what just happened, Lewis O'Day will defend his Television title again next week against Borga. But for now, pending the outcome of that bout, tentatively signed will be Lewis O'Day against Ludvig Borga at the Spectacular! Finally, the biggest announcement of the night, the main event for the evening. This year we have so much top level talent in RCW that there was no need to entertain bringing in an outside booking. There is only one main event that the fans want to see at that event. The two biggest names in the territory, two of their favourites, current RCW Heavyweight champion "Sweet" Stan Lane against former champion, Greg "the Hammer" Valentine!! And to make it more intriguing, they now know they will face each other, but have to tag next in our main event of the evening! Main Event Stan Lane & Greg Valentine defeated Wolfgang Haessler & Untermenschen by pinfall when Valentine pinned Haessler after a piledriver at 9:40 **the match started with Lane and Valentine dominating the first couple minutes. Then there was an extended period of Valentine being in trouble before making the hot tag. A 4 man brawl erupted in the ring and Lane managed to nail his superkick finisher on Untermenschen. At the same time Haessler had Valentine set up for a piledriver but Valentine back flipped him over, then nailed his own piledriver. Lane was covering Untermenschen but the ref waved it off as they were not the legal men in the ring. So Lane threw the monster out of the ring, and Valentine covered, hooking a leg and got the 3 count. There may have been a bit of stress between Lane and Valentine over their upcoming bout against each other but they were pretty much on the same page tonight.

River City Wrestling #643 November 16, 1996 Winnipeg, Manitoba
Hour #1
Opening Bout Manny Silva defeated Vance Nevada by pinfall after a wheelbarrow suplex at 5:19 **Silva is once again put into the opening bout, and is starting to embrace it, even getting to the ring before the show even started. His opponent tonight is now back from a concussion suffered after the superkick by Stan Lane. Nevada had already been losing his mind before that incident but now looks totally gone (he is embracing the homeless look at the moment). Silva didn't care about his opponent's mental health however as he went right after them. This match was a brawl, which mostly favoured Silva. In fact Silva controlled most of the bout but Nevada was a game competitor. To make things even weirder, after the bout Nevada tried to attack Silva again on the way to the dressing room only to have the Hawaiian happily lay down another beating.
Bout #2 Emma Bezzlerr & Kelly Gallant defeated Jeanne Basone & Mistress Gloom by pinfall when Bezzlerr pinned Basone after a guerilla press slam at 5:24 **good match but not much meaning.
Bout #3 Stan Baker & Jesse Hennig defeated Robbie Royce & David Jericho by pinfall when Baker pinned Royce after a heartpunch at 6:49 **so basically Baker & Hennig are former tag champions, now reunited, who attacked half of the tag champions Todd Bullett last week, putting him on the shelf for this week. Royce wants to avenge his partner, but they can't defend the titles this week because Bullett is out. Plus Baker & Hennig haven't even won a match together since reuniting, so tough to give them a title shot. So Royce got himself a partner in the very capable David Jericho. However, the fans saw this ending coming, as Baker and Hennig are too good together to get beaten by a lessor makeshift team. Of course after the match Baker and Hennig took some liberties with Royce until security broke it up.
Bout #4 #1 Contender Match Wolfgang Haessler defeated Greg Valentine by pinfall after a back body drop (and with his feet on the ropes) at 7:59 **Haessler had come out earlier in the show and challenged that Valentine had just been "given" the #1 contender spot and the main event at the Spectacular. Haessler said this was unfair, nepotism?, and a form of racism?. Anyway of course Valentine offered to beat Haessler and here we go. Valentine controlled early but Haessler took over the bout by going to the throat, and then every time he would lose the advantage he would go right back to the wind pipe. Finally Valentine started a comeback with a series of chops, elbowsmashes between the eyes, and then tried to nail a piledriver. However, Haessler was able to counter that with a back body drop, rolled Valentine up, for 1, 2, put his feet on the ropes for leverage and got the 3.
Post-Match: Commissioner Jim Brunzell came out and was not happy. He said that Haessler cheated his way to victory, but won none the less. So Brunzell said that next week Haessler would get his title shot against Stan Lane, and that if he won the title then he would go on to the main event at the Spectacular to take on Valentine. However, Haessler's partner Untermenschen has a title shot tonight against Lane. So if the German can win the title tonight then he, not Lane will go into the main event at the Spectacular, and then it would be Untermenschen locking up with either Haessler or Valentine.
Hour #2
Spectacular Update Jim Brunzell announces that the tag team to take on the legendary Rock 'n Roll Express will be none other then Bad Company: Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond, a pairing that are no strangers to RCW fans. In addition the RCW Tag Team champions, currently Todd Bullett & Robbie Royce will take on the South African champions, currently the African Bulldogs:Pariah & Temple. Only the RCW titles will be on the line in that show, but at the joint show on New Year's Day the opposite will be true as the SAWF champions will defend against the RCW champions. Also signed will be former WCW "star" Man Mountain Mike, with no opponent yet named to face him.
Bout #5 North American Women's Title Match Apartment Wrestling Match Madusa Micelli defeated Julie Strain by pinfall on the kitchen table at 6:43 [Madusa Micelli Won the North American Women's Title] **yes an Apartment Wrestling Match, like in the articles from Wrestling Revue and the Apter Mags of the 70's and 80's. The location was disclosed as Julie Strain's apartment in The Hills, California. That gave her home field advantage as she found things like a cookie sheet, spray cleaner, and a mop handle to use during the fight because of her familiarity with the apartment. Micelli was interviewed before entering the apartment saying she couldn't wait for the Spectacular, and now had heard a rumour that Strain was ditching her match at the Spectacular to shoot a horror movie instead. Micelli called her out on it, the champ told her to come over and settle things, and RCW apparently sanctioned it, sending a referee and two camera men with her. The match was "called" by the announcers later in the studio, the match was not shown live but only on TV. The whole thing seemed very odd. The women went from the living room where they toppled couches, broke a vase, smacked each other with coffee table books...to the bedroom where they were smashed into the gothic looking bedposts, had a pillow fight, almost got thrown out the window, and choked with a clothes hanger, and a scarf. Into the kitchen they went where spray cleaner, a mop, and a bottle of ketchup was used. Strain ended up tripping because of the ketchup on the floor, so Micelli took advantage by putting her into a camel clutch, then pulling her up and hip tossing her onto the kitchen table and getting the pin.
Bout #6 RCW Television Title Match Ludvig Borga defeated Lewis O'Day by pinfall after a chokeslam at 9:59 [Ludvig Borga Won the RCW Television Title] **O'Day had a great run as TV champion from February 17th until now, an excellent 9 months. This was another slobberknocker although it was slowed down a bit by both men using restholds to try and wear the other one down. The end came with some controversy, when O'Day charged at Borga trying to finish him off with his flying knee. Borga moved partially out of the way, and basically ended up with O'Day getting crotched on Borga's knee. Since it was not apparently intentional the ref let it go. Both men took a few seconds to recover, but Borga hit first with a kick to the "lower" abdomen, and then a chokeslam finisher.
Post-Match: Jim Brunzell announced that O'Day would get his rematch at the Spectacular, and that the two men would not meet until then.
Main Event RCW Heavyweight Title Match Stan Lane and Untermenschen battled to a television time limit (approximately 12 minutes) [Stan Lane retained the RCW Heavyweight Title] **Lane controlled early but could not put the monster away. Then the big German took over, worked over the back of Lane with body shots then a couple bearhugs. Lane refused to submit, and managed to kick out of two pin attempts after belly to belly suplexes. Untermenschen went again to the back with a Boston crab...the champ managed to survive about 45 seconds in it before getting to the ropes, but he could not even stand up at this point. Seconds later the big challenger had the finisher back on in the middle of the ring. However, Lane was saved about 20 seconds later by the bell as the television time limit had expired.
Post-Match: As the telecast went off the air, and the credits rolled, behind the credits you could see the challenger refuse to break the hold. Valentine hit the ring, as did Haessler, as we faded to black!

River City Wrestling #644November 23, 1996 Winnipeg, Manitoba Hour #1 Opening Bout Handi-Cap Match David Jericho, Mike Wildside, & Elmwood Brawler defeated Manny Silva by pinfall when Brawler pinned Silva after outside interference at 7:31
**The Brunzell making life hell for Silva continued, by not only putting him in another opening bout but against three guys. Of course Silva held his own, but was getting worn down. But he nailed a wheelbarrow suplex on the Brawler and looked ready to get the pin. However, both Wildside and Jericho entered the ring to break it up. The ref got in front of both men and worked at pushing them back. From the back came crazy Vance Nevada, he clobbered Silva from behind with a wrench knocking him out. Brawler managed to put an arm around Silva and get the win. Bout #2 Mistress Gloom defeated Kelly Gallant by disqualification for abuse of official at 4:42
**Gloom frustrated Gallant by constantly skirting the rules, chocking Gallant. Twice Gloom managed to pop Gallant in the head when the ref was trying to get a clean break. The second time Gallant lost her temper and tossed the ref to the side. She then stood there trying to help the ref up, obviously embarrassed by her actions. Then Gloom used the distraction to clock Gallant in the head and left her lying. Bout #3 Lewis O'Day defeated Wolfgang Haessler by pinfall after a running kneesmash at 6:30
**this week was supposed to be Haessler's shot at Stan Lane's title, but because Untermenschen and Lane ended in a draw last week they are having a rematch this week; so Haessler would have to wait a week. It's also possible he could end up facing Untermenschen instead of Lane. Maybe Haessler was distracted, or maybe O'Day was just more dialed in, getting ready for his rematch against Borga, but O'Day had surprisingly little trouble winning this bout. Bout #4 Kat LeRoux defeated Emma Bezzlerr by pinfall while in the figure-four at 5:05
**LeRoux keeps establishing herself as the #1 contender with her scheduled bout against Micelli coming up at the Spectacular. Bezzlerr had her moments in the match for sure, including being able to power out of the first figure four applied by LeRoux. Frustrated, LeRoux ended up removing the top turnbuckle while playing possum in the corner, and then Bezzlerr basically knocked herself out charging in. LeRoux applied the figure four again and this time the ref counted the shoulders down of the former champion. Hour #2Bout #5 RCW Television Title MatchGreg Valentine defeated Ludvig Borga by countout at 7:51[Ludvig Borga retained the RCW Television Title] **So O'Day does not get his title shot until the Spectacular, but that doesn't mean that Borga is off the hook. Tonight he faced the stiff challenge of former Heavyweight champion Greg Valentine. Borga controlled the first 5 minutes of the match though, and many began to wonder if Borga should be getting the title shot against Lane at the Spectacular instead of Valentine. But the Hammer made a spirited comeback and got two near falls after a kneedrop and after a piledriver. Borga took a powder to get some time but Valentine went back after him to retrieve. The two fought outside the ring, and Borga rolled Valentine back inside the ring, but instead of following him backed out and took the countout loss. Bout #6 RCW Tag Team Title Match Todd Bullett & Robbie Royce defeated Stan Baker & Jesse Hennig by pinfall when Royce pinned Hennig after a double dropkick at 6:27
[Todd Bullett & Robbie Royce retained the RCW Tag Team Titles] **the winner of this bout, or at least whomever held the titles at the end would go into the Spectacular against the South African champions. The match was pure chaos from the start to the end, making it short but intense. Hennig and Baker seemed over confident and cocky, arguing with the ref, acting like the titles belonged to them. In the end the champs tossed Baker over the top rope, then nailed a double team dropkick on Hennig and picked up the win. Main Event RCW Heavyweight Title Match Stan Lane defeated Untermenschen by disqualification for outside interference at 9:02
[Stan Lane retained the RCW Heavyweight Title] **this was a rematch from last week's time limit draw. The monster Untermenschen controlled early, Lane made a comeback, but was beaten back down by a spinebuster slam. A couple nearfalls, then a mistake by the German, both men struggled to their feet...Lane nailed a superkick...covered, 1, 2 Kickout!! Lane was dragging the German by the hair to his feet, and Wolfgang Haessler hit the ring, attacking Lane from behind. Post-Match:Wolfgang Haessler and Stan Lane were going at it, while Untermenschen just watched and shook his head. Then Greg Valentine hit the ring, this brought Untermenschen suddenly around, and it became a four man brawl. Lane and Valentine took control of the ring as we went off the air. Details known so far for the 17th Anniversary Show December 14th 1996; Winnipeg Convention Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba

River City Wrestling #645 November 30, 1996 Winnipeg, Manitoba
This is the last card before the 17h Anniversary Spectacular in two weeks. Next week on TV will be a preview of the event.
Hour #1
Opening Bout Man Mountain Mike defeated Manny Silva by countout at 4:29 **Man Mountain Mike, the former competitor from WCW made his premiere in RCW (there was a different Man Mountain Mike that wrestled for the company back in the 80's), pitted against Silva, as Brunzell's last attempt to weaken Silva before the Spectacular. It worked. Silva had difficulty dealing with the size of MMM. Lucky for him Brunzell is not that size.
Bout #2 Teagan Clive defeated Tami Kim by pinfall after a float over suplex at 5:27 **Clive's spot in the 4 way match at the Spectacular was on the line in this bout but Kim could not take it away from her.
Bout #3 Jim Brunzell and Gothic Knight battled to a no-contest at 1:47 **This was Brunzell's only warm-up match, and maybe that rather then just revenge was Manny Silva's motivation to hit the ring and attack Brunzell. The match got thrown out, and Knight joined Silva in a two on one beat down of the commissioner, but soon turned his wrath on Silva. That didn't work too well though and soon enough Silva chopped Knight in the throat and threw him over the top rope. But by now Brunzell had recovered and dropkicked Silva over the top rope to join Knight on the floor.
Bout #4 Mistress Gloom defeated Kelly Gallant by pinfall after a splash at 6:34 **solid match that could have gone either way. Gallant will get a shot at revenge in the 4-way bout at the Spectacular.
Hour #2
Bout #5 Stan Baker & Jesse Hennig defeated David Jericho & Mike Wildside by pinfall when Hennig pinned Wildside after a running necksnap at 6:39 **just like old times, Baker and Hennig looked great, albeit against inferior opponents then they will need to beat to get back to the top.
Bout #6 Greg Valentine & Lewis O'Day defeated Ludvig Borga & Untermenschen by countout at 8:02 **Valentine may have been excused if he was a bit distracted tonight as he awaits the results of the main event to see who he will face at the Spectacular. On the other hand O'Day and Borga were dialled in as they will meet at the Spectacular for the Television title. Just prior to the bout it was announced that Untermenschen would have to battle Man Mountain Mike at the Spectacular. This was a brawl and all four men took turns in control, but in the end the bad guys didn't want to finish the bout and risk a psychological loss before the big event.
Main Event RCW Heavyweight Title Match Stan Lane defeated Wolfgang Haessler by pinfall after a superkick at 6:45 [Stan Lane retained the RCW Heavyweight Title] **Haessler getting this bout is a bit controversial, since he ended up getting his friend Untermenschen disqualified last week, costing him his shot at the title. The champion from this bout will go on to the Spectacular Main Event to defend against Greg Valentine. During the bout both Untermenschen and Greg Valentine came down to the ring to watch. Jim Brunzell came out and let them stay to watch but only from behind the announce table, and he stayed on to watch. Haessler controlled early but Lane came battling back. The fracas spread outside, and Untermenschen had the chance to interfere when the ref was distracted but chose not to. Soon enough inside the ring Haessler tried to nail a piledriver but Lane countered with a backflip. The two men stood up and Lane nailed his finisher and picked up the win.
Post-Match: As Valentine entered the ring to congratulate Lane, the two shook hands, Haessler and Untermenschen had a heated exchange outside the ring, and Manny Silva came out and attacked Jim Brunzell from behind. Silva pounded away as we faded to black.
17th Anniversary Show Line-Up December 14th 1996; Winnipeg Convention Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba Main Event: RCW Heavyweight Title Match: Stan Lane (c) vs Greg Valentine North American Women's Title: Madusa Micelli (c) vs Kat LeRoux Television Title Match: Ludvig Borga (c) vs Lewis O'Day Manny Silva vs Jim Brunzell Rock 'n Roll Express: Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton vs Bad Company: Paul Diamond & Pat Tanaka Man Mountain Mike vs Untermenschen Robbie Royce & Todd Bullett vs African Bulldogs: Pariah & Temple Stan Baker & Jesse Hennig vs Massive Damage: Steve Rivers & Sean Dunster David Jericho vs Vance Nevada Jeanne Basone vs Emma Bezzlerr vs Mistress Gloom vs Kelly Gallant
That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling. See ya in two weeks at the Spectacular!!
