Torts status; creator; Jonathan Shapiro
genre; Drama (legal)
studio; Sony Pictures
Concept; A high priced New York legal firm that deals only with Tort Law. Generally speaking, tort law defines what constitutes a legal injury and establishes the circumstances under which one person may be held liable for another's injury. Tort law spans intentional and negligent acts. Since the cases tend to take a long time until completion, the show juggles several different ongoing cases at different times of their life cycle; cases can take years to complete, and thats only until the appeals process. The show bounces between the high flying partners, the hard working and often greedy associates, and the slimy investigators the firm uses. It also shows the real people effected by cases such as class action lawsuits against the users of defective products. In general, the show is gritty and does not paint most of the legal profession in a positive light.
Notes; The network deemed the chances of success were fairly low. It didn't seem like a "Liberty" style show because there were not enough people to like, relate to, and cheer for. There was also concern over the slow turnover in cases, much like "Murder One" of the late 90's. Plus it was noted how poorly "Damages" did in ratings despite critical acclaim on cable.

Punjab Status; Genre; Dramedy or Sit-Com Creators; Jeff Cox / Craig Cox / Dan Harmon
Relativity Media
Description; By day Jiat is a crime fighting wisecracker. In fact his special powers is that the humor in his puns and wisecracks fuels the power of his kicks and punches, and just about any other force he needs. But by night, without his cowl and cape on, Jiat struggles as a stand-up comic with a tired out routine which plays on his East Indian roots.
Notes; Has the potential to be funny as hell, and the scripts are good. However, the network has cold feet with the level of racial stereotyping involved in the show. Scripts were developed both for sit-com and dramedy but neither has soothed network concerns.

Victim Status; Genre: Drama (cop) Creator; Hank Steinberg
Description; A police procedural based around a Phoenix, Arizona precinct, with one difference. The show revolves around the victim(s) of the crime and their circle of family, and friends. The police work is all done behind the scene, with the victims on a need to know only basis. Victims come in many sizes and shapes. Some take it lying down and having a hard time coping, some want justice or revenge, some live in fear of being reoffended, some are reoffended, some are pushy with the authorities, some have something to hide or are even involved in the perpetration of the offense.
Notes; Original idea, lots of story possibilities put forth. However, that also means very little attachment to reoccuring characters. Several sets of police detectives would be rotated through episodes, both to keep costs down and to keep the relationship between victims and cops distant.

Notes; There are some issues about the amount of involvement that Curtis was willing to have with the show, and her committment level.

Long Haul
Status; Genre; Drama Creators; Michael Sloan / David Fallon
Description; Howie is a former clincial psychiatrist who wakes up after a coma following a car accident with some memory loss and loss of his legs. Although he receives a large insurance settlement he is still bitter at being unable to practice psychiatry because his license has been revoked due to the time in the coma, and his memory loss. As therapy and to see the country, Howie invests portions of his settlement in a big rig equipped for his handicap and becomes a long haul driver. However, along the way, using the CB and personal ads he finds a whole new group of people needing his counselling. He begins to rearrange his hauls as an independent contractor so the end of a haul coincides with meeting a person who he has been helping along the way as he drives. In addition to those episodic elements, there are two serial subplots. Around episode 4 or 5 the government will become aware that he is practicing medicine without a license and attempt to shut him down. Secondly, his memory of the crash begins to come back to him, and its more suspicious and sinister then the insurance company and lawyers led him to believe.

Stoops
Drama (60 min)
creator; Shonda Rhimes ("Wildwood")
Julius (Andre Braugher) is a black man from the streets of Baltimore who has grown up into a successful businessman. He runs a large chain of convienience stores "Stoops" in poor black neighborhoods, with his managers and employees owing a chunk. Despite all the good he does for the 'hoods he still has his many detractors who only see him getting rich, and they say its at the expense of the very people he is helping. His most vocal detractor is Mikey, one of his best friends growing up who despite not having any success with his methods is an activist who believes you must change the whole system, not one life at a time. Despite their differences Julius and Mikey remain good friends. The show centers around the dichotomy that is the life of Julius including his business, his wealth, his model white wife, and his two spoiled children. Viewers will be asked to take a stand; for Julius or against Julius, there will be no sitting on the fence.
Notes; Shonda received much negative press for her "white" centric Wildwood, so perhaps this is a way of striking back or appeasing her critics. The show promises not to be cliche, but rather challenging. Eyes are already on Andre Braughner to take the lead role if Last Resort is cancelled by ABC. Talks are also with Aubrey O'Day to play the wife.
