River City Wrestling #518
April 10, 1993
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Opening Bout
Brian Blair defeated The Psycho by submission to the sleeperhold at 6:53
-Psycho's premiere in RCW, looked promising but had limited in ring skills, and was overmatched by the veteran Blair
Bout #2
Mike Lozansky defeated L.A. Gore by pinfall after a missile dropkick at 8:11
-rematch from last card where Gore got himself intentionally disqualified by hitting Lozansky with a steel chair. This time Gore used his power and cheating to control the first 5 minutes or so before Lozansky made his comeback, took over the match, and ended it with a definitive victory.
Bout #3
Vlad Petrov & Nick Bockwinkel defeated Canadian Cannonball & Dave Pinsky by countout at 4:59
-this was advertised as a tag match but Bockwinkel had no intention of tagging in, and allowed Petrov to wrestler a handi-cap match. Despite the 2 on 1 their opponents who were making their RCW premiere had no luck against Petrov, one on one to when they tried to double team. Finally after Petrov tossed both men over the top rope they decided to take a hike instead of going back into the ring.
Bout #4
#1 Contenders Event for the North American Women's Title
Molly McShane won a Lone Survivor Match at 15:03
The unique match began as a Six Woman Elimination Match
April Cummings, Julie Ann Gerhard, & Molly McShane vs Beverlee Hills, Dottie Bittle, & Stacy Jackson
-McShane pinned Jackson after a powerbomb at 3:40 (Cummings reached in and held down the legs of Jackson for extra leverage)
-Hills pinned Cummings after a schoolgirl at 6:37
-Gerhard pinned Bittle after a hanging vertical suplex at 8:07
With one team down to 1 lady the rules now reverted to all the remaining wrestlers (3) as legal in an elimination match
Julie Ann Gerhard vs Molly McShane vs Beverlee Hills
Gerhard and McShane pretty much continued to work together even after the cracks in that alliance broke down at one point. Gerhard nailed Hills with a suplex and then McShane nailed the downed Hills with a top rope splash. McShane though rolled off Hills in pain and allowed Gerhard to make the cover on Hills.
-Gerhard pinned Hills after McShane hit a top rope splash at 11:12
The pain though was just a rouse and McShane nailed Gerhard from behind and then nailed a series of 3 rolling waistlock suplexes. Gerhard made a short comeback but McShane was determined and fought back, harder, nailing a piledriver to seal the win.
-Molly McShane eliminated Julie Ann Gerhard by pinfall after a piledriver at 15:03
Bout #5
Super Destroyers (/w Nick Bockwinkel) defeated Harley Tragger & Ben Bassarab by pinfall when SD 2000 pinned Bassarab after a stuffed piledriver at 13:02
-Bockwinkel unveiled his new tandem, yet another incarnation of the Super Destroyers. For clarity they have elected to call themselves Super Destroyer 2000 and Super Destroyer 2001, probably named after the future years, not a numerical sequence of use. Tragger and Bassarab actually seemed like the better wrestlers but the heels used timely interference by Bockwinkel and a double team to pick up a tainted win.
Post-Match
Commissioner Jim Brunzell comes to the ring. He says that due to what just happened, and in light of how the Heavyweight title changed hands last card after a groggy Buddy Lane had been knocked out, tonight's rematch for the heavyweight title will have 2 referee's. Buddy Lane will work the inside of the ring, with Jurgen Hermann an extra set of eyes on the ring apron. Lane is free to consult and listen to Hermann's reports, but Lane's word will be final.
Bout #6
Sebastien Rikard & Lenny Thompson defeated Billy Two Eagles & Jerry Fury by pinfall when Thompson pinned Fury after a running boot to the face at 9:11
-Eagles was making his premiere in RCW but was not the weak link in this match, that honor was bestowed on Fury.
Bout #7
RCW Tag Team Title Match
Baron von Raschke & Brad Rheingans defeated Dirty White Boy & Dirty Barry Horowitz by submission when Raschke submitted Horowitz to the clawhold at 10:54
[Raschke & Rheingans retained the RCW Tag Team Titles]
-match hardly seemed to be in doubt due to Horowitz being the weak link and DWB not seeming to be totally engaged. This was a rematch from the March title change and really just put a stamp on the title change.
Post-Match:
Despite the lack of drama in the tag title match, after the bout Vlad Petrov and the Super Destroyers hit the ring under the watch of Nick Bockwinkel and laid waste to the tag champs until Brunzell, Blair, Tragger and Bassarab came to the rescue.
Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Two Referees (Buddy Lane & Jurgen Hermann)
Jerry Lynn defeated Manny Silva by disqualification for abuse of official at 12:33
[Manny Silva retained the RCW Heavyweight title]
-Well you just knew that with the special stipulation that the officials would come into play. The match was an excellent, fast paced bout that alternated in and out of the ring. Neither man held anything back but the ref (or refs) seemed content to let them brawl it out, just drawing the line when Silva grabbed a steel chair and both refs joined together to convince him to put it down. Back inside Lynn caught Silva with a kick to the thigh, high knee, and then he jumped up planting both his knees into Silva's chest, grabbed him behind the head and then drove him down face first into his knees. Lynn covered for 1, 2, Silva's foot went to the bottom rope and Land may not have seen it but Hermann yelled at Lane to alert him. Lynn seemed frustrated and nailed Silva with a pair of dropkicks. Silva took a powder outside and when Lynn decided to give chase, after a couple second delay because Lane tried to stop him, Silva managed to turn quickly and clothesline Lynn. The champ then stomped away at him before rolling him back inside the ring. Silva then climbed to the second buckle and came down..but Lynn rolled out of the way. The challenger kicked away at the legs of the champ, causing him to turn full circle on his butt, only to have Lynn nail a side kick right to his chest. Legs in the air Silva was grabbed by Lynn and turned over for a Boston crab. The champ managed to slowly get his way to the ropes. He only managed to touch the ropes with his fingertips before Lynn pulled him back inside. In fact Lane missed it and argued with Hermann for a few seconds before relenting and calling for the break. There seemed to be some tension now between the two refs. Silva caught Lynn with a lowblow missed by Lane, and then the two began to exchange punches and kicks. Lynn once again grabbed the advantage and Silva seeing the writing on the wall tried to make it look like he stumbled into referee Lane, but it was pretty obvious to all he did it on purpose and collided hard with Buddy Lane sending him to the mat. Lynn then caught Silva with a DDT..covered..no ref as Hermann was trying to wake up Lane. Lynn then nailed his cradle piledriver finisher, and this time Hermann came over and counted the pin, 1, 2, 3 !!! New champion?
Hermann got the belt and gave it to Lynn while Silva stomped away at the ropes. Silva then attacked Lynn from behind, choking him over the second rope. He grabbed back the title belt and nailed referee Hermann across the head with the belt. In the meantime Lane had shaken off the cobwebs just in time to see Silva nail Hermann in the head with the belt and then hold it up high. Lane called for the bell...and when it didn't sound he called for it again..this time it was rung. Chaos ensued as Lane tried to pull the title from Silva only to get thrown out of the ring. Jim Brunzell came down to restore order. With everyone separated and sorted out Buddy Lane grabbed the mic and explained that he was disqualifying Silva for abuse of official. When Brunzell explained that Hermann had counted the 3 count before the abuse so the pinfall should count...Lane said no...the disqualification was for when Silva hit him and knocked him out prior to the 3 count. Brunzell had no choice, he had given orders that Lane's decision would be final. The result was to stand and Silva was still champion.
Lynn was distraught, yelling and complaining to Lane, Brunzell, and Hermann but to no avail. Silva just took his belt and left as fast as he could stage right.
