"Lucky 13" - 13th Anniversary Show
December 5, 1992
Winnipeg Convention Centre
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Bell Time 7:05pm
note: The "fan favorite" is listed first and the "villain" second in the lineup.
Opening Bout
No Disqualification - No Countout
Harley Tragger (6'2 255 lbs., Manhattan, Kansas) ("Wanted Dead or Alive" Bon Jovi) vs Leatherface (5'10" 263 lbs., Texas) (Theme From Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
Leatherface brought a chair with him to the ring, so Tragger met him half way up the aisle. Tragger tried to wrestle the chair away but the masked freak laid in a boot to the groin then smashed him twice with the chair. Despite it being no DQ referee Buddy Lane took the opportunity to take away the chair from the villain. After a few more punches outside the ring the action went inside. Leatherface went to work with eye gouges, chokes, and punches. He bit the head of Tragger opening it up. Finally the biker had enough and head butted Leatherface, used a single leg takedown and then dropped a leg on the groin. An anklelock was applied and then turned into a Boston crab. Tragger tossed Leatherface to the corner when he refused to submit and laid in a series of shoulderblocks. After a belly to belly suplex Tragger covered and got a 2 count. He made his first mistake by leaving the ring in search of a weapon. He found a wrench from under the ring but when he came back in the ring Leatherface had already produced two pairs of brass knux from his trunks and laid in a jab and cross combo that knocked Tragger right out of the ring. Leatherface tossed Tragger over the guardrail and the action spilled into the crowd. The two fought up the stairs in the stands, and then Tragger tossed Leatherface down and he rolled dangerously down the stairs. Tragger was bleeding profusely, but rolled Leatherface back into the ring, but not before taking one pair of his brass knux off. Tragger went to the top rope and used a fistdrop from the toprope with the brass knux to gain the victory.
[Harley Tragger defeated Leatherface by pinfall after a top rope fistdrop with brass knuckles at 8:52]
Bout #2
J.W. Storm (6'5" 290 lbs., Los Angeles, California) ("Ridin' The Storm Out" REO Speedwagon) vs Samoan Hitman (5'10" 270 lbs., The Isle of Samoa) ("Stranger in a Strange Land" Iron Maiden)
Hitman started the match strong with chops and kicks, and then a nerve hold. Storm got to the ropes but that didn't stop the Hitman from going after his ribs. When Jurgen Hermann tried to get in the way he got shoved by the Hitman. Storm got a temporary reprieve when Hermann got in the face of the Samoan. The Californian fought back with forearm uppercuts, a bodyslam, elbowdrop, and then a front facelock. Storm made a mistake by trading head punches which the hard headed Samoan shook off. The two traded shots back and forth but the Samoan got the advantage and applied a crossface. After getting a break Storm went to the legs of the Samoan chopping him down, but when he went for the neckbreaker drop his opponent shoved him off. The Hitman nailed a couple chops to the kidneys, nailed a Samoan drop and got a 2 count. Then he went to finish it with a headbutt, but Storm blocked it with his hands, turned him around and nailed the neckbreaker drop and got the 3 count.
[J.W. Storm defeated Samoan Hitman by pinfall after the neckbreaker drop at 7:14]
Bout #3
Lenny Thompson & Shark Bait (combined wt. of 480 lbs.) ("Pump Uo the Jam" Technotronic) vs. Kid Gallahad & Brett Como (combined wt. 418 lbs.) ("Diamond Dogs" David Bowie)
Thompson could best be described as an awkward giant at 6'10" and only 280 lbs., but when able to exert his strength dominated the match. On the other hand Shark Bait was pretty much useless against his fast double teaming opponents. In the end while Shark Bait was trying for his second hot tag of the match Thompson lost his temper. Instead of making the tag he left the ring, grabbed a steel chair, entered the ring and ~waffled~ both his opponents, and then his own partner Shark Bait. Thompson left looking disgusted.
[Kid Gallahad & Brett Como defeated Lenny Thompson & Shark Bait by disqualification when Thompson used a steel chair at 6:55]
Bout #4
Ben Bassarab (5'10" 211 lbs., Calgary, Alberta) ("You've Got Another Thing Comin'" Judas Priest) vs Soultaker (6'6" 330 lbs., New Orleans, LA) ("Godslayer" White Zombie) (/w Nick Bockwinkel)
Bassarab started strong with a stick and move attack, and laying on some armbars, a leglock, and a legspreader. However, holding down the weight of Soultaker started to take its toll on the smaller man. This allowed Soultaker to make a big comeback and he literally tossed Bassarab around the ring, and beat him from pillar to post. In fact one shot to the buckle missed and Bassarab's head hit steel post and split open. Despite that, or in reaction to that, Bassarab lost his temper and began to go to the eyes and throat of his opponent causing a big cheer from the crowd but admonishment from the ref Jurgen Hermann. The tactic worked though as Soultaker became disorientated, clutching at his face. Bassarab kicked the legs out from under Soultaker, dropped a trio of spinning elbowdrops, followed by a very impressive German suplex, for a 2 count. Bassarab climbed to the top rope but Bockwinkel grabbed onto his ankle to stop him from finishing off the match. This brought out Cowboy Bob Orton who went right after Bockwinkel. Bassarab nailed a pair of boots to the gut of Soultaker and looked ready for a spinning neckbreaker, but Soultaker pushed him off. Hermann had his back to the action yelling at Orton and Bockwinkel and got nailed from behind by Bassarab. This allowed Soultaker to run Bassarab head first into the ring post one more time, then nail a falling powerslam and pick up the win once he revived Hermann.
[Soultaker defeated Ben Bassarab by pinfall after a falling powerslam at 6:51]
Bout #5
Special Format: 10 Rounds (3 minute rounds)
Brian Bosworth (6'2" 260 lbs) ("Dangerous" Doobie Brothers) vs Mark Gastineau (6'5" 275 lbs., Ardmore, Oklahoma) ("The Final Countdown" Europe)
Round 1:
Bosworth showed off his limited wrestling skills (compared to Gastineau's no ability) and grounded him. Gastineau fought back but when he used closed fists he was stopped by referee Buddy Lane. This allowed Boz to shoot on him again and work over the right leg.
Round 2:
Boz went right after the leg and frustrated Gastineau. The slow pace of the match drew some jeers from the crowd. When the two men stood toe to toe again the former Jet Gastineau was at a disadvantage as he was having trouble standing on his right leg. Boz circled him and took him apart with chops, elbows, and kicks.
Round 3:
Gastineau let Boz come for him, back him into a corner, but then Mark hit him with an uppercut, turned him around and punished him in the corner with shoulderblocks. He then tossed him out of the ring and put him in a bearhug while slamming him back first into the ring apron. Buddy Lane elected to leave the ring and break it up instead of just calling for a countout. Gastineau got very upset with Lane and began to threaten him. This allowed Boz time to recover and he nailed a running knee to the back of Gastineau which drove him into Lane. The two then fought tooth and nail around ringside while Lane was knocked out. The bell rang for the end of the round but with no ref to break them up the two just continued to battle. Officials came out to wake up Lane and to break up the combatants. There was an extra long break between rounds as both men were read the riot act and Lane was checked on by a doctor.
Round 4:
The match reverted back to Boz working over Gastineau on the mat. Gastineau got in some ground work as well with a front chancery using his weight to keep Boz down.
Round 5:
Pace picked up with some criss-cross which saw Boz almost run into Lane, just stopping short. But when he did that and turned around Gastineau nailed him with a running spear. Only the vicinity to the ropes kept Boz alive on the subsequent pin attempt. Gastineau tried to finish off Boz with a piledriver but it was blocked, and then countered with a back body drop. Boz then nailed a pair of side kicks, a running clothesline, a short clothesline, and a side suplex to pick up the pin.
[Brian Bosworth defeated Mark Gastineau by pinfall at 2:45 of Round 5]
Well it's been about an hour and fifteen minutes of action so far so it was time for the first 15 minute intermission to sell some T-shirts and over priced soda.
Bout #6
Battle of the Piledrivers - Only a pin after a piledriver is allowed - Special Guest Referee Jim Brunzell
Cowboy Bob Orton Jr (6'1, 255 lbs., Kansas City, Kansas) (Theme From Rawhide) vs Nick Bockwinkel (5'11 245 lbs., Beverly Hills, California) ("Behind Blue Eyes" The Who)
Before the bout could start our commissioner Jim Brunzell came to the ring with an announcement. If there was any outside interference in this match then the person interfering and the one for whom they were interfering for would be suspended from RCW. Furthermore, he has assigned himself to be the special guest referee for this bout and will take Jurgen Hermann's place. The crowd and Orton both cheered the news.
Bockwinkel started strong after a go-behind from a test of strength and a waistlock takedown. However, Orton took the match over by pulling Bock's arms apart and putting on a hammerlock. After working the hammerlock he worked a side headlock, back hand chops, elbowsmashes, and then a powerslam for a 2 count. A rear facelock was applied but this allowed Bock time to lower his heart rate and ended up countering it and putting Muraco in first a side headlock, and then an armbar. Bock then went to work with a series of kicks, stomps, a boot choke while arguing with Brunzell, a series of hip tosses...and then Orton countered with a cloethesline that sent Bock head over tea kettle. Orton quickly set up Bock for a piledriver but the Blonde haired vet pushed the Cowboy off and then took a powder outside the ring. He took his time getting back into the ring, and then just slipped outside the far side of the ring. Orton was going to chase him but Brunzell stopped him. Brunzell then applied the count to Bock but counted it very quickly, causing a panic in Bock which had him slide back into the ring and right into the clutches of Orton. The Kansas City cowboy laid in a high knee lift, a forearm upper, then a running clothesline...he made the pin...but there was no count due to the match stipulations. Bock snuck in a punch to the throat, then took Orton down to the mat with him in a headscissors. After working that Bock took him down with a drop toe hold and worked the hold. Despite all the rest holds the fans were really into this match generating lots of heat. A couple arm drags, a couple dropkicks, and Bock set up Orton for the piledriver, but it was countered by a back bodydrop. The two now went toe to toe inside the ring, then outside, then back inside. Orton nailed a vertical suplex, then tried to follow up with the running bulldog but Bock pushed him off into the corner, and caught him coming back with a sleeperhold. Brunzell kept checking on the sleeper thinking it was a chokehold but couldn't catch his former AWA nemesis red handed. Finally Bock released the hold with Orton out cold. He set him up for the piledriver finisher but because Orton was out cold Brunzell put a stop to it holding Orton down. He called for the bell because Orton was unable to defend himself. Incredibly the commissioner said that because no piledriver and pin was counted he was calling this match a no-contest. Most of the crowd cheered this, although some did jeered the bad ending.
[Bob Orton Jr and Nick Bockwinkel battled to a no-contest at 14:43]
Bout #7
Vendetta (6'4" 261 lbs, Port-au-Prince, Haiti) ("Redemption Song" Bob Marley & The Wailers) vs Mad Dog Manny Silva (5'11" 245 lbs., Hawaii) ("Mad Dog" Deep Purple)
Because RCW has a tradition of putting title bouts as the featured bouts in a card, the fans were treated to a main event caliber match-up right in the heart of the lineup as there was no title on the line for these two top contenders. Both men went after each other before the bell could sound and traded punches and kicks. Silva got the better of it thanks to a chop to the throat and then took Vendetta over with a leg-capture suplex. After a reverse chinlock Silva went to town with a series of knees to the back of the Haitian. He then applied a pair of back breakers, and a sidewalk slam to get a 2 count. Frustrated Silva threw Vendetta out of the ring and continued to punish him outside. Back inside the worm finally turned when Silva went for a piledriver but it was countered by a back body drop. It took Vendetta a bit longer to complete his comeback but eventually out punched Silva and then delivered a fireman's carry into a slam. A pair of running legdrops, and then a standing moonsault yielded a two count. The former RCW champion continued to work on his advantage with a single leg Boston crab, and then a surfboard but could not get a submission. The two men then traded punches again, did a criss cross segment, then battled on the ring apron before spilling outside the ring. Vendetta once again gained the advantage and back inside nailed a flying clothesline for a 2 count, a double underhook suplex for a 2 count, and then when he went for his finisher DDT Silva managed to push him to the corner. Silva turned things around with a lowblow, which could have caused a DQ but referee Buddy Lane just gave Vendetta a bit more time to recover as he threatened Silva to keep away. Finally Silva couldn't take it any longer and attacked Vendetta in the corner, but the Haitian reversed it, throwing Silva into the corner, nailing a series of knees, then climbing to the second buckle to rain down punches to the skull. But when Vendetta tried for a monkey flip out of the corner Silva held on and tossed Vendetta out, then followed him with a running kneesmash. But when he tried for a second knee Vendetta turned it into a cradle for a 2 count that Silva rolled out of and put on his own inside cradle for 1, 2, grabbed a hand full of tights, and 3. A bit of an upset here.
[Manny Silva defeated Vendetta by pinfall with an inside cradle (and a handful of tights) at 12:31]
Bout #8
RCW Tag Team Title Match
Mike Lozansky & Lightning Kid (combined wt. 396 lbs.) ("Armageddon" Prism) vs Sebastien Rikard & Archangel (combined wt. 480 lbs. ) ("Screaming in the Night" Krokus) (champions)
As could be expected the challengers used their speed and tenacity to take the early advantages, and whenever the champs tried to double team the challengers were right there to meet fire with fire. When long time inept official Jurgen Hermann tried to walk Lozansky out of the ring it allowed Archangel a chance to come in and make a double team; except Lighting Kid springboarded off Rikard and took Archangel down with flying headscissors and then did the same to Rikard. The challengers cut the ring in half and worked over Rikard but could not get a pin. Finally by grabbing the tights of Lozansky and propelling him out of the ring Rikard got the separation needed to make the tag. The muscular Archangel showed off his combination of power and impact moves by nailing a series of suplexes and flying clotheslines and shoulderblocks. He nearly got the 3 count on Kid but when the youngster kicked out both teams made a tag. The Canadian native Lozansky went to work with a series of headlocks, leg scissors, and spinning toe holds. Finally Rikard once again managed a tag out to Archangel who went right after the back of Lozansky. Knees, a standing surfboard, a couple backbreakers, and then some bearhug spots. Finally as Lozansky was clinched in the corner for a belly to belly suplex, Kid managed to reach in and tag himself in off the back of Lozansky. Archangel finished the suplex not realizing that Kid was climbing to the top rope, and then when he turned around he received a missile dropkick..cover, 1, 2, ...Hermann stopped the count realizing that Lozansky was still in the ring (recovering from the suplex). Incredibly Hermann began to administer a 5 count on Lozansky..which caused the fast thinking Kid to roll his partner out of the ring and onto the apron. Archangel grabbed the feet of Kid and gave him an inverted big swing, eventually dropping him, skidding across the ring on his face. Rikard tagged in and the two sent Kid to the ropes and nailed a double flying clothesline. Rikard tagged out to Archangel and delivered a powerbomb while Archangel climbed to the top buckle and came off with a flying elbowdrop...pin..1... Lozansky had also climbed the adjacent buckle and came off with an elbow to the back of the head of Archangel to break the tag. Rikard entered the ring and attempted to throw Lozansky out of the ring, but it was reversed and Lozansky sent Rikard to the ropes, and followed him with a running clothesline that sent both men tumbling over the top rope. Back inside the Lightning Kid rolled up Archangel and the second straight match was won with an inside cradle. New Champions!!
[Mike Lozansky & Lightning Kid defeated Sebastien Rikard & Archangel by pinfall when Kid pinned Archangel with an inside cradle at 14:28]
[Mike Lozansky & Lightning Kid Won the RCW Tag Team Titles]

RCW Heritage Title Match
Baron von Raschke (6'3 281 lbs., Republic of Germany) ("Ride of the Valkyries" Wagner) (champion) vs Rogue (6'1 235 lbs., parts unknown) ("Violin Concerto, 3rd movement" Tchaikovsky)
Rogue looked like he wanted to attack the Baron before the opening bell but backed away when it was obvious the Baron was waiting for him. He then took a powder immediately after the bell rang and spent the first couple minutes of the match ducking in and out of the ring. Finally Baron caught him with a pair of boots to the midsection, and locked in the clawhold. But the hold was applied in the corner and Rogue just had to reach out and grab a rope for the break. He then snuck in a mule kick to the groin which gave him the advantage over the champions. For the next 6 minutes the challenger poured everything he had into the attack on the Baron but could not get a pinfall or submission. He got caught by the Baron coming off the top rope with a double axhandle. The Baron then nailed a pair of bodyslams and boot rakes, a flying shoulderblock, a back bodydrop, and then locked on the clawhold. Rogue lasted about 30 seconds before crying uncle.
[Baron von Raschke defeated Rogue by submission to the clawhold at 9:32]
[Baron von Raschke retained the RCW Heritage Title]
Bout #11
Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Best 2 out of 3 Falls
Jerry Lynn (5'11 212 lbs., Minneapolis, Minnesota) ("Wild Side" Motley Crue) vs Dirty White Boy (5'9" 211 lbs, Bucksnort, Tennessee) ("Dirty White Boy" Foreigner) (champion)
The two began by exchanging punches and kicks, but then Jerry Lynn turned it into a chain wrestling sequence that DWB could not keep up with. Lynn nailed a German suplex, a hotshot, and then a new variation of the piledriver (cradle piledriver) that he had not used yet in RCW. Referee Buddy Lane made a 3 count and surprisingly the challenger had a very early fall.
[Jerry Lynn pinned Dirty White Boy after a cradle piledriver at 3:38]
[Lynn leads 1-0 falls]
The second fall began as the first ended with Lynn in charge, a relentless attack that DWB seemingly had no answer to. The champ gained a couple short lived advantages when the match spilled outside the ring but could not sustain it back inside. DWB attacked with kicks and punches, and then a pair of discus punches. But when he went for a piledriver Lynn countered with a back body drop. Lynn whipped DWB hard into the corner, and followed him in with a clothesline which knocked him over the top rope, landing on the ring apron. As the champ moved stunned along the apron Lynn leapt off the top buckle with a springboard dropkick which knocked the champ to the mat below. Lynn then followed up with a head tope through the second and third ropes. Rolling back inside the champ caught him with an elbow and followed up with a bodyslam and then some nasty kicks to the shoulder. He tried to scoop up the challenger again but Lynn squirmed out of it, and then took the champ to the buckle. The two spilled from the corner knocking over Buddy Lane who hit the mat hard. Lynn landed on top of DWB over the top rope but as he recovered Dirty White Boy Barry Horowitz came running from the back and nailed Lynn in the head with a running knee. Lynn got knocked out cold. When DWB shook off the cobwebs he nailed Lynn with a chokeslam and picked up the pin from a groggy Buddy Lane.
[Dirty White Boy pinned Jerry Lynn after a chokeslam at 9:50]
[match tied 1-1 falls]
Before the bell could sound for the 3rd fall Commissioner Jim Brunzell came down to the ring. He laid down the law saying the title would change hands or be retained tonight fair and square, that there would not be interference or cheating. Brunzell said that he would remain at ringside to keep an eye on things and if anyone so much as came down here to buy a soda they would be suspended. And if either participant cheated his way to victory then they would be suspended for 30 days thus causing a forfeiture of the title.
The tirade by the commish also bought Jerry Lynn, and referee Buddy Lane a spell to recover from the end of the last fall, something not lost on DWB who tried to complain to Brunzell. But when the bell sounded and DWB continued to complain Lynn rolled him up from behind and got the 1, 2...KICKOUT. Both men scrambled to their feet but the speed of Lynn came into play as he nailed DWB with a clothesline, then another when the champ got back up. Grabbing both legs he then put the champ into a Boston crab. Lynn controlled the first 4 minutes of the fall but never got close to another 3 count. The champ then fired back with cheap shots to the throat and eyes, a spinebuster slam, and then a piledriver and got 1, 2, Kickout by Lynn. DWB then got Lynn in position for a chokeslam but Lynn stomped his foot, twisted out of the throat hold, bieled the champ to the mat, landed a double knee to the skull, and then grabbed the legs for a pin, but only got a 1 count. He went for a piledriver but the champ managed to wiggle his way down and then back body drop the challenger; but Lynn turned it into a sunset flip and cradle for a 2 count. DWB then went back to punches and kicks and really punished Lynn in and out of the ring. When the match spilled out beside Brunzell it distracted the champ who jawed with the commissioner...and then ate a superkick from Lynn, before Lynn powerbombed him onto the announce table...breaking it in half. Lynn followed up with a moonsault onto the prone DWB. It looked like both men might be counted out but Lane slowed the count down enough for Lynn to roll the champ back into the ring. Lynn climbed to the top rope, but DWB cut him off at the pass...except Lynn was even quicker and took DWB down with flying headscissors. Lynn followed up with a running sit out powerbomb, and then quickly turned the champ over into a cloverleaf submission. At first it looked like the champ would just be able to get his way to the ropes, but it soon became apparent that he was in big trouble. The champ's energy began to wane, and Brunzell got into position to head off any interference. The champ tried to reach back and grab an ankle, or knee or anything, but couldn't reach. He tried to bridge out of the hold but was slammed back down and screamed in pain. Buddy Lane kept checking on him...then raised the arm..once, twice, three times. New Champion!
[Jerry Lynn submitted Dirty White Boy with a cloverleaf at 22:13]
[Jerry Lynn wins the bout 2 falls to 1]
[Jerry Lynn Wins the RCW Heavyweight Title]
After the bout Jim Brunzell, Baron von Raschke, Harley Tragger, Ben Bassarab and J.W. Storm joined him in the ring to give congratulations. The Heavyweight, Women's, and Tag Team titles all changed hands tonight, with only Baron Von Raschke managing to hold onto his Heritage title. Jerry Lynn, Baron von Raschke, and Mike Lozansky/Lightning Kid are all fan favourite title holders, with April Cummings the only villain to hold gold going into 1993.
So that's it for the 13th year of River City Wrestling.
We'll see you in 1993!!
