Real Genius
30 min
Sit-Com (single camera - workplace)
Small screen take on the 1985 movie, about the relationship between a rock star-like genius and a sheltered, naive co-worker. The last revolution was about bits, this one is about atoms.
A young genius Mitch Taylor who recently graduated with his doctorate in digital physics from Cal-Tech is recruited to work at Oakwood Labs, a homey sounding name for a mega IT-physics company, on their 3D printing team which is being led by the rock star like eccentric Chris Knight. The company is located far away from silicone valley, in a restored steel mill in Youngstown, Ohio..not that many of the employees get out much. Knight's own company trying to make 3D printers "RamenBot" was recently bought out by Oakwood after a failed kickstarter program. The project is stalled and it seems all the expectations are being put on Mitch ahead of a Presidential tour and funding announcement.

Episode Guide
1.01 - "Pilot" (Sep 22/2016) 0.9/3 3.88
Recent graduate of Cal-Tech Dr. Mitch Taylor (accompanied by his parents; guest stars Gabriel Jarret & Michelle Meyrink) at the ripe age of 20 is recruited at a Silicon Valley trade show by Jerry Hathaway, C.E.O. of tech giant Oakwood Labs along with their science rock star Chris Knight, who looks anything but excited at the prospect. Mitch moves in to the company dorms where he lives down the hall from the eccentric Knight. Knight introduces Mitch to the project making 3D printers and the big issue; the failure rate of the lasers. Everything is going fine until Mitch is kidnapped by a group of "Opensourcers" in a white panel van and warned about the evils of Oakwood Labs. Frustrated by his inability to solve the laser issues, 3D teammate Carter Tibbs decides to try and fix the dorm's industrial popcorn maker which makes Kent Prescott (Chief Strategy Officer) blow a gasket.
1.02 - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" (Sep 29/2016) 0.9/3 3.58
Mitch meets a female co-worker Jordan Melnyk and over Red Bulls she tells him the story of how Chris' 3D printer company RamenBot (named after the cheap noodles everyone ate) raised money on kickstarter but after several failed designs could not deliver a reliable printer in time and had no choice but to sell out to Oakwood Labs (the evil empire). Jordan also tells Mitch how mad this made the open source community because Oakwood made everything proprietary and the leader is Chris' former minority partner Stevie Howe. Senator Shoehorn (guest star Val Kilmer) comes for a visit where Jordan displays the work the company is doing on prosthetic limbs using the 3D printers, much to the delight of a rejuvenated Mitch. However, Chris then leads Mitch through the duct work to overhear as Shoehorn meets with Jerry Hathaway and Kent Prescott behind closed doors, and its obvious he is interested in the espionage application of the printers.
1.03 - "I'm Falling" (Oct 6/2016) 0.9/3 3.21
Mitch is the guest of honor at a dinner party thrown by Hathaway at his luxurious house where he shares his first kiss with Jordan; and falls into the pool. Unable to swim it creates a chain of events that leads Carter into skinny dipping. Chris beds Hathaway's pretty assistant Sherry Nugil, and the two are still in the bed when Stevie Howe and the Opensourcers break into the bedroom looking to steal trade secrets. With most of the staff away at the party Kent Prescott tries to demo one of the machines for General Lou Decker but accidently creates a full sized car which is too big to get out of the room.
1.04 - "I Know Kung Pow" (Oct 13/2016) 0.8/3 2.95
When Mitch's parents come for a visit it makes him wonder about Chris' parents; but is soon disappointed with what he finds. Over beers Chris tells Mitch about his parents and about his best friend growing up Stevie Howe. A drunk Chris goes to Stevie's house and challenges him to a fight; luckily Stevie is drunk too and the two have a sparing session. Kent's overtures to Sherry are rejected and it causes friction between Kent and Hathaway. Jordan's most recent design prototype fails due to laser issues with the 3D printer.
1.05 - "Top Secret Gun" (Oct 20/2016) 0.9/4 3.51
Mitch is introduced to Lazlo Holyfeld, an enigma, and a myth amongst the scientific world. Chris and Mitch are introduced to his work which is ostensibly to create time travel to connect the 3D printers to the "space time continuum", but Lazlo admits its impossible but it frees him up to work on his real project, a web crawler that helps him enter online contests and win tons of prizes. The 3, along with Jordan go for a visit to a warehouse that Oakwood has unwittingly rented just to store all the goods Lazlo has won in the contest. Kent tails the group to the warehouse and threatens to blow the whistle to Hathaway unless they get Sherry to go on a date with him. Lazlo airs a special movie he created combining his two favorite 80's movies Top Secret! and Top Gun (Top Secret Gun) for the group.
