Based on the 1988 young adult novel by S.E. Hinton which is set in the same "universe of Tulsa" as her other novels (Outsiders, Tex…etc). Travis is a tough kid living in a big city who come home to find his stepfather burning his writing, so he assaults him, and is then sent to live with his paternal uncle Ken on a ranch just outside of Tulsa. Travis gets a job at a riding school for a lady named Casey, and he begins to work with a wild horse named Star Runner. Travis also continues his efforts to get his book published even though his stepfather continues to block his every attempt.
