Plot:
When Othniel Looker High School in Ohio turns 100 it celebrates with a homecoming and the opening of time capsules put in 50 and 25 years ago. However, one of the time capsules will prove to hold the key to a mystery long buried in small town folklore, and this brings more attendees and attention to the celebration then anyone is expecting, including a young reporter who's uncle lies at the middle of the mystery as a former teacher at Looker.

The 25's and 50's return to Othniel Looker High School in Sandusky, Ohio for the unveiling of two time capsules at the school's 100th anniversary celebration. However, the homecoming twists when one of the 25's Cynthia DeGreuw is strangled to death on her way back to the hotel after an event at the local bar. Sheriff Westland receives the news that he has colon cancer. Young cub reporter Sierra Pine turns to her uncle retired principal and 50'er John Pine for background information on Cynthia DeGreuw but is shocked by his unwillingness to tell her even the most basic of details. 25'er Frank Billings returns to the town he promised never to step foot in again, and immediately his concerns are confirmed; until he finds a romantic attraction to a current teacher, and a former neighbour who he babysat, Roberta Leigh.

At the unveiling of the time capsule a power failure, and fire mar the event, and then a second body is found across town Marc Azua a local businessman and 25'er. John Pine believes that in the chaos something was stolen from the time capsule but doesn't know what, and refuses to say why he came to that conclusion. When Sheriff Westland meets the State investigator, he immediately doesn't trust him to solve the two murders so continues to work the case. A seedy link between the two victims is found. Sierra breaks into her Uncle's basement office looking for information. Frank's old enemy and current high school gym teacher Steve "O" is questioned by the State's investigators and arrested, despite Frank and Westland's protests. Bobby Weathers and Jericho Smith contrive together to mobilize the two classes to solve the crimes.

Jenny overhears a clandestine meeting between Stan Shaw and Jack Pine; and is then threatened by Pine. Frank's date with Roberta is interrupted by the state investigator. Steve "O" is released but told not to leave town. Weathers and Smith hold an open meeting and try and determine what all was in the time capsule and therefore what may have been taken. An anonymous blog makes accusations that Stan Shaw raped another student at a high school party 25 years ago. Sierra is approached by Cole who has some suspicions about the alumni.

Sierra gets Jenny to confide in her the details of the Shaw-Pine conversation. As the weekend draws to a close and most of the 25's and 50's prepare to go home the state investigators get desperate and drag more people through interrogations; including Frank. Jack Pine asks his niece to drop the story; when she refuses he insinuates her career will be over. Sheriff Westland gets Steve "O" drunk to try and pry information out of him, but what he gets, while disturbing, has nothing to do with the matter at hand. All the major players collide that night at the Homecoming football game; which had been moved from Friday to Sunday due to the murders.

Sierra goes through the yearbook contacting 25'ers who did not make the trip; and finds a Karen Wachinski that dropped out in senior year, and has completely fallen off the grid. Sierra talks with Frank who believes that Karen got pregnant and left town in scandal. Bobby Weathers and Jericho Smith try to investigate Jack Pine but run afoul of Sheriff Westland. Roberta confides to Frank the urban legend of the faculty lounge that may explain the missing item from the time capsule. The state investigators want Westland off the case, get wind of his health problems and try and use that against him. Jack Pine brings in a high powered lawyer to town; just in case.

Jack Pine refuses to answer any of his nieces questions about Karen Wachinski. Frank has an intimate night with Roberta, and decides to stay in Sandusky a couple more days. Sheriff Westland goes to court to get an injunction against the state investigators. Othniel Looker High School is put into lockdown status on Monday when there are reports of a threat. Steve "O" dies from an apparent suicide gunshot to the head, but Westland has his doubts because there is no note left (Jack Pine found the body first, took the note, and left the scene otherwise untouched).

Roberta uncovers a conspiracy plot that may link to Karen Wachinski as well as the time capsule; but when she contacts Frank the two of them walk into a trap. Sheriff Westland has a showdown with Jack Pine. Sierra tracks down a cousin of Karen Wachinski and finds out that she was raped by multiple assailants, as some sort of revenge plot. Stan Shaw tries to enlist Cole Veechers' help in clearing his name.

The state investigation team takes over from the Sheriff, who admits himself to the hospital for cancer treatments. Sierra is run off the road on her way home to Sandusky. Stan Shaw is arrested for dunk and disorderly conduct. The investigators take another run at Shaw, who spins a tale of deceit and collusion that indicates that Karen was raped at the orders of the previous Sheriff of the town (Westland's Uncle). Frank and Roberta have to decide who to trust; if anyone; and Frank has a sit-down with Jack.

Bobby tells Jericho that the missing item from the time capsule contained the DNA from the rapist of Karen Wachinski but refuses to elaborate. A mysterious visitor comes to see a very groggy Sheriff Westland in the hospital; Karen Wachinski. Frank attacks Jack Pine, who to save himself, hands over Steve "O"'s suicide note; and it doesn't implicate Jack, but rather Steve in the rape of Karen. Sierra overhears most of the Frank/Jack altercation and gets ready to go to print; but is betrayed.
