It's also an opportunity to bring in bigger names and help forward the brand of River City Wrestling on a national scale.

January 12, 1991 River City Wrestling #451
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Annual Awards Night
Ricky Steamboat comes out to accept match of the year honors on behalf of himself and Davey Boy Smith for their Feb 24th 1990 #1 contenders match at RCW # 413 in Brandon Manitoba. After over 17 minutes of action Davey Boy Smith picked up the win, but it was in part due to unsolicited outside interference from Pat Brady.
Tommy Jammer defeated The Trooper by pinfall
Mason Thunder (/w Kelly St Croix) defeated Dough Boy by pinfall **two newcomers to RCW, one looked impressive, the other, not so much. Thunder is a tall lanky competitor, who talks very intensely, wears a long ponytail, and used some martial arts moves in his match although he hails from Los Angeles. Kelly St. Croix is a stunning brunette from Quebec.
Non-title Match: The Texas Hangmen (Psycho & Killer) defeated Rick Winter & The Nomad by pinfall
Paul Diamond defeated Dan Denton by pinfall **Diamond makes a triumphant return to RCW
4-Team Mini Tournament to Decide #1 Tag Team Contenders Semi-Finals Tasmanian Devil & Sheik Lou Fabiano defeated Jerry Lynn & Joe Savoldi by pinfall
Ben Bassarab & Kid Gallahad defeated Dan Denton & Timothy Flowers by pinfall
After the match, Ben Bassarab accepts the RCW 1990 Tag Team of the Year award for himself and Biff Wellington who won the title on 3 separate occasions last year. Bassarab says that Wellington's injuries caught up with him, and because of their accumulated effect he will be taking some time off. He talks about how excited he is to team with Kid Gallahad. Unlike Wellington instead of having complimentary styles, these two have very comparable styles and they should be able to bring a fast paced relentless attack. This brings out The Texas Hangmen who say its a crock that Bassarab and Wellington received that award. Not only did they win the titles 3 times, but they also lost the title 3 times, so in addition to being the best team they should be awarded the worst team. No one cares about history, its for losers, the present is what counts and presently the Hangmen have the titles. Bassarab and Gallahad tell the bigger men to count their days because they won't be champs much longer. Baron von Raschke comes out and says that some things never change. He announces that Ben Bassarab & Biff Wellington versus the Texas Hangmen has been announced as the 1990 feud of the year. He says he has put award plaques in both dressing rooms, not wanting to have more hardware out here that could be used as a weapon.
Challenge match Lethal Larry Cameron defeated Don Muraco by disqualification **Cameron came out running his mouth, challenging Steamboat. Instead he got Muraco from the back. However instead of being overwhelmed by the veteran, he met power with power, and added just enough cheating to make Muraco lose his cool, toss the ref to the side and cause his own disqualification. After the match Muraco was still livid with the ref and Steamboat had to come out and calm his friend down.
RCW Heritage Title Match Nightstalker (/w Nick Bockwinkel) defeated Jim Brunzell by pinfall [Nightstalker retained the RCW Heritage Title] **prior to the match Baron von Raschke the RCW commissioner came out to the ring and announced that the TV title would be renamed the Heritage title.
After the match Nick Bockwinkel is presented with his Manager of the Year award. He gloats and goes on a long acceptance speech which is finally cut off after about 5 minutes when the house mic is cut.
Finals - #1 Contenders Match Ben Bassarab & Kid Gallahad defeated Tasmanian Devil & Sheik Lou Fabiano by pinfall
Prior to the match Steve Disalvo is presented with his "Wrestler of the Year" plaque as RCW's top performer in 1990. This is his second award. He offers to sell it to anyone in the crowd for $100 and a ride out of town.
Main Event RCW Heavyweight Title Match Ricky Steamboat defeated Strangler Steve Disalvo by pinfall after a flying crossbody at 12:17 [Rick Steamboat retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]

Jim Brunzell defeated Dan Denton by pinfall after a flying dropkick at 3:10
Timothy Flowers defeated Charlie Norris by pinfall after a fist drop at 4:32
Desire Petersen defeated Kathy Weathers by pinfall after a splash from the 2nd buckle at 6:13 **great debut for Petersen who has her sites set on Bad Girl's North American title
Mason Thunder and Tommy Jammer battled to a double countout at 7:01 **the ring could not hold the animosity between these two that built up during the match.
Tasmanian Devil defeated Paul Diamond submission with a half-nelson chinlock at 4:55 **very impressive victory for the youngster over the veteran.
Joe Savoldi defeated Sheik Lou Fabiano by pinfall after a standing dropkick at 4:09 **after the match as Savoldi celebrated the Tasmanian Devil hit the ring and attacked Savoldi from behind, avenging the loss by his manager
Jerry Lynn defeated the Trooper by submission with the sleeperhold at 8:48 **Lynn is announced as the #1 contender for the Heritage title and will face Night Stalker next week for that belt
RCW Tag Team Title Match Texas Hangmen Psycho & Killer defeated Ben Bassarab & Kid Gallahad by pinfall when Killer pinned Bassrab after Psycho hit him with the cowbell at 8:07 [Texas Hangmen retained the RCW Tag Team Titles] **fairly even match but when the ref was distracted having to put Gallahad out of the ring, Psycho took advantage. This one is far from over.
Main Event Special Tag Team Match Ricky Steamboat & Don Muraco defeated Larry Cameron & Steve Disalvo by pinfall when Steamboat pinned Cameron after a flying crossbody block at 11:49 **this tag team match was to settle both feuds. However instead Muraco took exception to Steamboat having made the pin although Muraco was banging his foot and yelling for the tag. So after the match Muraco blind sided Steamboat with a clothesline and then laid him out with a piledriver. Muraco went to the announce table and said that being Mr. Nice guy got him no where, only to finish last, and that he was sick of Steamboat getting all the attention. No more Mr. Nice Guy said Muraco.
