~episode guide~
[1.01] - "Pilot"
Bobby and Troy's NCAA season comes to an unsatisfactory end before they both join the Newfoundland Rock for the IHA playoff drive.
Their college team is trailing by one goal with just over a minute remaining in the final game of the Frozen Four tournament. The coach is barking orders at the duo but Bobby has him completely blocked out. He is focusing on the opposite team's goalie. He envisions going high blocker side if given the chance. He is almost startled when the coach taps him on the shoulder. Two forwards are streaking over for a change, along with the goalie coming out of the net for the extra attacker. Bobby and Troy hit the ice with an extra man. The other team clears the zone, and a D-man pushes the puck up to Bobby. He and his best friend Troy make a couple of passes and Bobby goes one on one with a defender. It's not a clear shot, but going to his backhand, pulling it over to the front, he shoots the puck between the defender's legs a split second before being knocked on his butt. He watches the puck sailing towards the top corner, blocker side. The fans begin to rise to their feet...as the puck dings off the crossbar and goes high into the netting surrounding the net, necessitating a whistle. Bobby and Troy hang their heads, out of breath, less then 20 seconds left. They lose the draw, Bobby is too slow to cover his opposing center, because he's still got that crossbar on his mind. His opponent picks up the pass and fires it the length of the rink into the empty net. Bobby hangs his head in shame.
Nolan arrives in a snit in St. John's having been demoted from Chicago's NHL team. He makes sure everyone within hearing distance knows that he considers this temporary, and after he burns up this league the first round draft pick will be going back up to the parent team.
Doug faces a financial squeeze from the homefront which brings him to the brink of retirement. He goes to see the coach, spelling out his financial problems, but he does not recieve a sympathetic ear. He's told he has a contract and if he's really a man he'll fulfill it and play out the year. He asks for a couple days off to go home to his wife and kids but is denied. Coach tells him in parting he should be talking to his brother Bobby, he's the rich one in Doug's family.
Darrel Rode of Detroit talks trash about the Rock drawing their ire and an attempt at a practical joke for revenge
The boys lament the last season for the team in St.John's at Maggie's Pub. The team is being moved to Chicago next season. It makes sense for Chicago because they will have their operations that much closer. One player suggests it'll be bad, with the big league team there, the minor league team will probably play in front of empty arenas. Another player puts in that with the unemployment now in Newfoundland the crowds haven't exactly been great lately here. But the fans are loyal and many come over to wish the boys good luck and tell them they'll be missed. Maggie has sewn them all big wool scarves.
Bobby & Troy arrive in St. John's and are greeted by Doug, the veteran captain. He hands them two of Maggie's scarves and a pair of St. John's Rock toques. "Welcome to the rock boys"

The Rock fall behind 3 games to 1 in their Divisional final.
Goalie Igor Zaputskin can't handle the pressures of losing and when his mother falls ill back in Russia he completely breaks down - passing the gauntlet to back-up Graig Holowich.
The rivalry between Bobby & Nolan comes to a head in practice. Afterward when it is apparent that head coach Schoerwinn does not intend on addressing the conflict, assistant coach Riley calls both players back onto the ice and presents a unique solution to them.
Fisticuffs or Crossbars.
Bobby says he wants to duke it out with Flowers, but Nolan just throws that in his face saying Bobby knows he doesn't have the skills that he has. So Bobby agrees to shooting crossbars from the blueline.
After a few rounds Bobby emerges the winner of the shootout challenge.
