River City Wrestling #192
Lethbridge, Alberta
Opening Bout:
Ben Bassarab & Billy Robinson defeated Robbie Royce & Man Mountain Mike by pinfall when Bassarab pinned MMM after a flying cross bodyblock at 7:31
-some timely cheating by Robinson helped him an dhis student Bassarab win this bout over the youngsters.
Bout #2
Larry Hennig & Wahoo McDaniel defeated Steve Olsonoski & Rick Renslow by pinfall when McDaniel pinned Renslow after the big chop at 5:54
-McDaniel made his return to a RCW ring as the partner of Hennig. The two veteran power wrestlers worked extremely well together.
Interview:
After the match the victors Larry Hennig & Wahoo McDaniel were interviewed. McDaniel says he got the call from his friend Hennig to come to RCW, and together they have two goals. First to rid the RCW of cheats like the two teams facing off for the tag belts tonight, Bobby Duncum & Chris Lyon, and Masked Superstar & Super Destroyer, and the second goal is to become the RCW tag champions.
This assertion brings out Billy Robinson to the ring with Ben Bassarab. Robinson tells them to get in line, in case they didn't see how they dominated their match tonight. Unpleasantries are exchanged adn things get tense but its decided to settle them in the ring next week. The winner of that bout will be in position to demand a title shot.
Bout #3
Best 2 out of 3 falls
Special stipulations; Hestrerey's Contract v 30 day's of Hartel's Valet services
Miss Hartel to be handcuffed to the ringpost during the bout
Tod Hestrerey v King Tonga
Hestrerey started strong but it was like running into a brick wall and couldn't budge the monster. He walked right into the Tongan death grip and only survived by hooking a foot over the bottom rope. Teh match spilled outside the Tongan punished Hestrerey some more. Back inside he tried to finish him off but Hestrerey countered the Tongan death grip attempt by going for a crucifix but the monster countered with a Samoan drop and picked up the first fall.
King Tonga 1 - 0 Tod Hestrerey at 6:39
Before the second fall could get under way we had the customary 30 second time-out; or at least that was the way it was supposed to happen. But despite Miss Hartel's instructions and yelling from her corner handcuffs, Tonga did not relent and kept on punishing his opponent. After about a minute of this and some 5 counts referee Buddy Lane had no choice but to call for the bell and award a fall to Hestrerey by disqualification.
King tonga 1 - 1 Tod Hestrerey at 6:39 (still)
When the announcement was made Tonga went crazy and just about threw Lane. The ref managed to calm him down and instructed him to go talk to his manager in the corner. While this was happening Hestrerey rolled out of the ring to finally get away, landed with a thud outside and lay there.
After the 30 second timeout the bell rang and Lane had no choice but to begin to count out Hestrerey. Tonga though would not wait, and could have had the easy win but he tried to get to his opponent causing Lane to hold him back and break the count. Hartel was screaming at him to take the count and the match but he paid her no heed. He broke the count again. Still Hestrerey lay there not moving. A third time it happened but this time Tonga slipped through the ropes and risked DQ to go after Hestrerey. He picked him up by his long, stringy hair and walked him over to the announce table...but Hestrerey was playing possum. He went down to one knee, turning into Tonga, and delivered a palm strike to the sternum. He then took the monster down with a drop toe hold smashing the Tongan's head into the annouce table. Hestrerey climbed onto the table and then launched himself off with a flying elbowdrop. He rolled Tonga back into the ring and nailed him with a fisherman suplex into a pin, and got 1, 2, Kickout.
Hestrerey pushed his advantage with suplexes, and leg holds trying to ground the Tongan but could not put him away. Tonga powered out of a Boston crab sending Tod head first into the ringpost. Tonga regrouped and got some advice from Hartel. Both men circled each other, tied one fall each, both trying to catch a second wind about 12 minutes into the bout.
Tonga took over with a knee driven to the gut, and then an uppercut forearm. Tonga then went through a series of chokes against the ropes again risking DQ before blatantly choping his opponent in the throat. As Lane interceded to warn Tonga, Hestrerey slid out of the ring. He grabbed Tonga by the ankles and pulled him over to the corner and crotched him into the ringpost. But he was in Hartel's corner and when Lane wasn't looking she hit him in the back of the head with a high heel shoe. This allowed the Tongan to grab the advantage and he worked it inside for a couple of minutes to soften up Tod for the final fall. He locked in the Tongan death grip but Tod countered by wrapping his legs around Tonga and pulling him head first into the corner. He rolled him up still in the Tongan death grip and when Lane applied the count, 1, 2, 3, Tonga didn't react.
Tod Hestrerey 2 - 1 King Tonga by pinfall at 17:54
Tod Hestrerey defeated King Tonga 2 falls to 1, and gets the excluseive valet services of Miss Hartel for the next 30 days.
[end of first hour]
Interview:
RCW Champion Jim Brunzell comes to the ring. Within seconds he is confronted by Jerry Blackwell, who the fans boo. Blackwell tells them they can boo all they want but he isn't the kind to attack a champion from behind. That's why he is here with the TV title face to face to demand his title shot from the champion. He tells Bruunzell that it's his time, and there is no stronger challenger currently in RCW.
Brunzell can not deny this claim and accepts Blackwell's challenge for a match next week. Blackwell says may the best man win and offers a handshake to Brunzell. As soon as Brunzell looks to the crowd for approval (he gets none) Blackwell nails him with a clothesline. He then then delivers a splash to Brunzell and leaves him lying.
Bout #4
Canadian Women's Title Match
Tawney England (champion) v Corrie England
Corrie came out in her boxer robe again. When she pulled off her hood she surprised both the fans and her sister in that her head had been shaved completely bald. She proceeded to attack Tawney before the bell could ring. She used a lot of boxing stance and punches, including some unrelenting body shots. Tawney finally started a comeback but appeared winded, possibly having trouble getting a full breath of air due to the body shots to the ribs. She tired to hit the hairplane spin by holding onto the ears instead but she lost her grip. Soon after she went for a splash from the top rope but Corrie moved out of the way. The match spilled outside and the sisters stood on the announce table and exchanged shots until Tawney hit her sister with a standing dropkick, sending her head over heels backward off the table. However she landed awkwardly on her side against the side of the table, perhaps injuring her ribs further. The match resumed inside the ring where they crisscrossed until Tawney hit her sister with a flying fist to the head. She slingshot her sister into the corner and followed up with a German suplex for a 2 count. Corrie made another comeback and the two girls did some more criss cross and collided, with referee Wyatt Hall right in the middle. With the ref out both girls slowly made the way to their feet shaking off the cobwebs.
Suddenly out of the blue former champ Natasha hit the ring. The crowd cheered her, righ tup until she nailed Tawney with a dropkick from behind sending her straight into Corrie who was ready with a closed fist to the head. Hall woke up in time to see Corrie nail her sister with a reverse russian legsweep and pick up the win, and the belt.
Corrie England defeated Tawney England by pinfall after a reverse Russian legsweep and some outside interference at 10:07
[Corrie England wins the Canadian Women's Championship]
Interview:
In a post match interview Corrie England was joined in the ring by Natasha. Corrie says her month long training paid off, she was tougher then ever before and nullified her sister's best move by shaving her head. When asked about her actions Natasha says that RCW wrote her off after she lost the title. Once Tawney was willing to pander to the stupid fans for management they didn't need her anymore. Well she says she got her revenge tonight and would be by Corrie's side from here on in, making all her challengers' life miserable.
Bout #5
David Schultz and Bad News Allen battled to a double disqualification at 8:41
- a total brawl with no regard for the rules that finally saw referee Kenny Jay throw the thing out as they bashed each other outside the ring with everything that was or wasn't nailed down.
Post-Match
Goerge Wells came from the back to help Jay restore order. Allen though smashed Schultz over the head with a steel chair and then told Wells to hold Schultz while he did it again. Wells though refused and stood in the way, blocking an increasingly angry Allen. Schultz recovered and nailed Wells from behind sending him crashing into the chair and Allen. Dr. D then picked up the chair and nailed both men, leaving them laying.

RCW Tag Team Title Match
Masked Superstar & Super Destroyer defeated Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum by pinfall when Destroyer pinned Duncum after a piledriver at 15:45
[Superstar & Destroyer retain the RCW Tag Ttiles]
-another hard hitting tag installment between these two rulebreaking teams. Referee George Gadasky did a good job keeping the law and order. In the end the champs were just too polished and powerful a tag duo for the former champs to overcome. They were the better cheaters.
That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

River City Wrestling #193
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Opening Bout:
King Tonga defeated Pete Larsen by submission to the Tongan Death Grip at 2:13
-squash match. Noticeable by her absence was Miss Hartel as she is exclusive now to Tod Hestrerey for the next 30 days.
Interview:
Matchmaker Marty Goldstein comes to the ring. He has a special announcement. The RCW will be broadcast from some far reaching locations over the next 3 weeks. On June 16th RCW will be taping from a joint show with Southwestern Wrestling Promotions from Tucson, Arizona. The following week they will again be doing a show with SWP, this one a true "joint" production as it will come from the Arizona State prison in Florence, Arizona! Then on June 30th RCW will be doing a joint show with the World Wrestling Federation from Milwaukee Wisconsin. And yes, once again the one and only Crusher will be making a special appearance.
Bout #2
Chris Lyon defeated Aramand Rougeau by submission to the Boston crab at 7:21
-Lyon controlled most of this match showing that he is still a viable singles competitor. Rougeau has pretty much run his course in RCW.
Interview:
Chris Lyon and Bobby Duncum expressed that they were taking a step back from the tag team scene. They believe that as a tag team they have become a bit rusty and don't have that competitive edge you have as a single. So they will both be pursuing their singles careers.
Pre-Match:
Tod Hestrerey came out at first to the ring by himself prompting the announce crew to wonder where his new Valet was. As if on cue a very reluctant Miss Hartel came out dressed up as an All-American cheerleader, with all Star Spangled gear on. This did not sit well with the French debutante.
Bout #3
Tod Hestrerey defeated Bryn Blonski by pinfall after a superplex at 4:19
-squash match. During the match Hestrerey had Miss Hartel handcuffed to the turnbuckle.
Post-Match:
Ron Strong seemed to draw great pleasure in tormenting Miss Hartel as to her outfit and even got her (at some non verbal prompting from the mute Tod Hestrerey) to sing a few bars of "America the Beautiful".
Bout #4
David Schultz defeated George Wells by disqualification for outside interference at 5:23
-Wells was holding his own but it must have been too much for Bad News Allen to watch from the back because he stormed the ring attacking Schultz and thus getting his friend disqualified.
Post-Match:
Wells and Allen got into an argument and began to exchange pushes. This allowed Schultz to escape with the victory. RCW officials got between the two friends before they could blow up the situation further.
[end of first hour]
Bout #5
#1 Contenders Match
Tawney England defeated Natasha by pinfall after a piledriver at 8:42
-England and Natasha got heated real quick, and it turned into a catfight on the floor. Tawney was just too motivated to lose this match. Using the piledriver instead of the hairplane spin seemed to be a message being sent to her sister Corrie.
Post-Match:
Tawney England was being interviewed about her successful match but was interrupted by her sister Corrie England. The new champion said that while she was forced to defend her title against her sister, it didn't say when or how. She told Tawney she could have her title shot on June 23rd in a special Prison Cell match. But first on June 16th she would have to step into the ring with her in a Boxing match; if she has the guts. The fans reigned down chants of "boot...boot...boot" to Corrie who did her best to ignore them. Tawney accepted both matches.
Bout #6
#1 Contenders Match
Larry Hennig & Wahoo McDaniel defeated Billy Robinson & Ben Bassarab when Hennig pinned Bassarab after the big Axe at 9:40
Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Jim Brunzell (champion) v Jerry Blackwell
Blackwell went right after the champ but he ducked away and then used some chops and kicks to keep distance from the challenger. Brunzell nailed Blackwell with a dropkick to the knee, but after the behemoth stayed on his feet the champ made the mistake of going for a cross body block and it was countered with a powerslam. This one looked to be over quick but Brunzell managed to drape a foot over the bottom rope. The challenger waited too long to go for a splash, taunting the crowd instead, and the champ rolled out of the way. Brunzell was back on his feet and attacking Blackwell's mid-section and then gave him a bulldog from behind, finally knocking him off his feet.
The champ went for a figure four but Blackwell's legs were too strong, so instead Brunzell gave him a leg spreader instead causing him to cry out in pain. When Blackwell tried to leverage himself up off the mat using the ropes, Brunzell shook the ropes violently and caused Blackwell to lose his balance.
Brunzell followed up with a dropkick to the back of the head but only got a 2 count. He stalled then not sure what to do with the behemoth, and when all he could come up with was a forearm chop, Blackwell reared back with a big hamhock to the chest that sent the champ reeling. He then picked Brunzell up by the throat and choked him until tossing him into the corner. He charged in after, bu the champ swung out of the way, and then rolled up Blackwell, for 1, 2, the challenger kicked off sending the champ to the floor below.
Blackwell wouldn't let Brunzell into the ring clean so they played that game for a while until the champ leaped off the apron bringing Blackwell's neck snapping off the top rope. Brunzell climbed back into the ring and got a 1 count.
Again, unsure how to attack Brunzell used chops and kicks, but the challenger absored them and tossed him into the corner. He laid some meaty elbows in, and when he finally moved away the champ did a faceplant to the mat. Blackwell put him into a camel clutch, and with almost 500 pounds of pressure on the back it was a real testimony to the Great Bear Lake native that he did not relinquish his title. Blackwell eventually released the hold and went after the back with a few sitdowns and then a big knee drop. This was followed up with a backbreaker. He then applied the bearhug and again the champ refused to submit, eventually fighting his way out with an earringer. Brunzell slipped between Blackwell's legs and then dropkicked him from behind. The match spilled to the outside where the two men brawled extensively. However, it was actually the champ that lost control, lowering the match by picking up a steel chair and nailing the challenger across the head. This was all referee George Gadasky needed to call for the DQ.
Jerry Blackwell defeated Jim Brunzell by disqualification for using a foreign object at 11:46
[Jim Brunzell retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]
Post-Match:
RCW officials had to flood the scene to keep the two men from continuing to rip each other limb from limb.

Interpromotion 6-Man Tag Match
Jim Brunzell/Larry Hennig/Wahoo McDaniel
defeated
Jerry Blackwell/Manny Fernandez/Prof. Toru Tanaka
by pinfall when Brunzell pinned Tanaka after a top-rope dropkick at 10:35
-Blackwell couldn't have found himself two more vicious and devious partners. The fan favorites were fighting an uphill battle the entire match, and both Brunzell and McDaniel were a bloodly mess by the end of the action. What decided the match was that Fernandez and Blackwell got into an argument when both men wanted a tag in from Tanaka, as both he and Brunzell tried to crawl to their respective corners. Tanaka ended up with no one to tag to when his partners took their disagreement to blows outside the ring. Back inside Hennig nailed Tanaka with the big Axe, but while he staggered he did not fall. McDaniel also illegally hit Tanaka with the big Chop, again he staggered but did not fall. Brunzell then lept off the top rope hitting the oriental star with a dropkick that got him off his feet for the pin.

Canadian Women's Championship
Women's Prison Cell Match
Corrie England (champion) v Tawney England
A steel cage was erected inside the ring ropes. Instead of the usual chicken mesh style of cage this was the large bar types. It also had a low ceiling enclosing the cage at 10 feet high.
A key was suspended from the ceiling, and a cot provided in the corner of the cage. The only way to reach the key was to shimmy across the inside of the ceiling, or by moving the cot over to stand on. The key would unlock the cage door and the winner would be the first to exit the cage through the door.
The cot also was able to be flipped over and used as a weapon or object to throw the oppoennt against.
With no referee in the cage it was a vicious battle. Both women bled, although only on their backs, arm, and leg, not from the head. Tawney's back was red from nail scrapes made by her sister. Corrie received a hard shot to the eye and by the end of the match it was swollen shut.
Neither girl seemed to care about the key until about 10 minutes in when Tawney finally looked to have Corrie totally incapacitated. However, getting the key was a long process and Corrie recovered before the key could be used. It fell to the ground and the two girls continued their brawl.
Tawney climbed up the side of the cage, then used the top of the cage like monkey bars, kicked Corrie repeatedly in the face and then took her down with flying headscissors. She grabbed the key and was putting it into the lock when her sister recovered, and drove into her from behind. Tawney was squashed into the bars, and the key went flying from her hands out of the cage!! It was beyond their reach.
Not sure what to do Corrie put her guard down and Tawney suckered her from behind. The brawl continued. In the meantime Goldstein came out, handed the key to a young ringhand and instructed him to climb to the roof of the cage and rehook it by string. The ring hand was on his way up the side of the cage to do that very thing but Corrie would not wait. She climbed up the inside, and ~waffled~ him with a punch to the groin. The young man would have fell off but Corrie held onto him with one hand on his belt, then took her other hand and grabbed the key from his pocket. Putting the key in her mouth she released him to fall 8 feet to the floor below with a thud. Tawney however had climbed the cage wall behind Corrie, put her head between her legs, and took her over backwards off the cage. Thankfully the cot was out of the way, on the far side of the ring.
Corrie spit out the key as she was falling. Tawney was on her feet first and picked up the key and was using it in the lock. Tawney got the door open and was about to leave when Corrie caught her from behind again. She smashed the door into her face, knocking her backward and then stumbled out of the cage door.
Corrie England defeated Tawney England by cage escape in a Prison Cell match at 14:14
[Corrie England retains the Canadian Women's Title]
Bout #6
Jerry Blackwell and Manny Fernandez fought to a no-contest at 6:26
-neither man had any respect for the other, the rules, the ref, and maybe even for their own well being. Outsisde the ring Blackwell chewed on a cut on Fernandez' hand, and Manny retaliated using a pencil from the announce crew to increase the blood flow from Jerry's head. The SWP ref had seen enough and threw this match out. Not a popular decision with the inmates.

RCW Tag Team Title Match
Masked Superstar & Super Destroyer defeated Larry Hennig & Wahoo McDaniel by pinfall when Superstar pinned McDaniel with a superplex at 18:40
- a long match for 4 older and large workers but the veteran psychology was appreciated by the fans, as was the brawling once it picked up. The RCW champions look awesome, and can honestly be said to be as good a tag team as you will find anywhere in the wrestling world today.

Post-Match:
Crusher poses with his friend Hennig. Then Da Crusher says that while he is the special guest referee for tonight's main event betwen Brunzell and Fatwell, he promises to call it right down the middle, fair and square. RCW Tag Team Title Match
British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid) defeated Masked Superstar & Super Destroyer by disqualification for a forign object at 18:55
[Superstar & Destroyer retain the RCW Tag Titles]
-This was a fantastic match pitting the crisp tag team work of the youthful and speedy Bulldogs against the power and experience of the veteran tag champs. It was a constant battle of the Bullodgs trying to force the pace and the champs doing everything they could to slow it down. In the end the titles were in real jeopardy when Masked Superstar pulled a piece of chain from under the ring and nailed Smith in the back of the head to get intentionally dq'd.
Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Special guest referee The Crusher
Jim Brunzell (champion) v Jerry Blackwell
Everytime the champ got off a successful hold or move the challenger would slow the match down by complaining to Crusher about a fictional hairpull or tightspull, etc. Blackwell made a great show of leaving the match because the refeee was biased but ended up returning rather then letting Crusher count him out.
Balckwell changed gears and mounted a vicious attack on the challenger. Within minutes he had Brunzell grasping his ribs and trying to gasp for air. These were the same ribs Brunzell injured months ago. Blackwell then turned to pulverizing the forehead of the champ, drawing blood and sending Brunzell for a trip down woozy street. Outside the ring though Brunzell fought back hard. The Crusher looked the othre way (literally) when Brunzell took the little hammer from the annouce table and cracked Blackwell's head open. Back inside Brunzell tried to finish Blackwell off but when he went for a standing drop kick the behemoth went for the same thing, and their feet and legs collided. Both men went down hard but Blackwell had more mass and so absorbed the blow easier. He then deliverd a splash onto the injured knee o fthe champ, smashed it off the ring apron several times, and then off the ring post. He whipped the champ to the ropes and then caught him with his shoulder into the knee area. Brunzell could barely stand and the Crusher impored him to quit. When Blackwell tried to get at Brunzell before Crusher was done talking to him, Crusher ended up in a pushing match with Blackwell. The big man lost his temper and attempted to clothesline the guest referee but he ducked out of the way; unfortunatley Brunzell had recoverd and was hobbling over to the action. When Crusher ducked he didn't know that Brunzell was behind him and absorbed the entire blow. Crusher looked distraught at his actions but when Blackwell nailed a splash on the champion seconds later he counted the 1, 2, 3.
Jerry Blackwell defeated Jim Brunzell by pinfall after a splash at 15:08
[Jerry Blackwell wins the RCW Heavyweight Title]
Post-Match:
As Blackwell celebrated with his new belt, Crusher got on the microphone and apologized to Jimmy for his blunder. However, he held to his word and called it right down the middle. But now, the match is over. And with that he put a hand on Blackwell's shoulder, twirled him around, BOLO PUNCH...Blackwell is shaky but stays on his feet, backs against the ropes, comes off...BOLO PUNCH....again he manages to retain his feet despite being nearly knocked out. Crusher winds up for a third punch when Blackwell bounces lightly off the ropes, but Brunzell is there instead and nails Blackwell with a flying dropkick sending him through the ropes to the floor below.
