River City Wrestling #185
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Opening Bout:
Non-Title Match
Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum defeated Bob Adams & Rick Seavey by pinfall when Duncum pinned Seavey after a bulldog at 4:36
-squash match for the new tag champions.
Post-Match:
After the match Lyon slips on his Destroyer "mask of shame" and kept on punishing the opponents after the match. Duncum at first didn't seem to get why but soon joined in as well.
Gene Kiniski hit the ring and cleared out the tag champions.
Interview:
Kiniski first addresses Lyon's antics calling him a crybaby and a whiner. He says that one day Lyon will probbly be in the Hall of Fame, but instead of worrying and crying about it he should be worried about his career.
Kiniski then turns to his match tonight. He has signed on to take on Tod Hestrery & King Tonga in a tag match. He won't reveal who his tag partner is but will only say it will be a big surprise for the fans, and its a man they are very familiar with.
Bout #2
#1 Contenders Match
Natasha defeats Corrie England by pinfall after flying headscisosrs at 7:40
-hard fought win for Natasha, setting herself up for a title shot against Tawney England.
Pre-Match:
Bad News Allen comes out to the ring. He says Robinson screwed up his chances of beating Bassarab last time out. Allen feels that with Robinson at ringside he won't get a fair shot at the title. So tonight Allen says he is willing to forego his shot at Bassarab's title, to take on Robinson instead. If he wins then he will get a title shot next week at Bassarab without Robinson at ringside, if he loses he will not get his title shot at Bassarab at all.
Robinson and Bassarab come to the ring to answer. Robinson says no way, but if Allen is so confident then he should take on both of them this week in a handicap match. If he wins this week he can have his stipulations fulfilled next week. Allen is backed into a corner and has no choice but to accept.
Bout #3:
Handicap match
Bad News Allen defeats Billy Robinson & Ben Bassarab by pinfall in a handicap match when he pinned Bassarab after an enzuigiri at 9:05
-Great outing for Allen who was helped immensely by Buddy Lane, possibly the best referee in RCW right now who called a great match. In the end Allen nailed both his opponents with the enzuigiri to make sure Robinson could not interfere while he was making his pin.
Bout #4
Jerry Blackwell defeated Man Mountain Mike by pinfall after a splash at 1:05
-squash match, literally. It's not too often that MMM gives away about 100 pounds.
Post-Match:
Blackwell serves warning to all the RCW upstarts including Brunzell and Schultz that he is not here to wrestle in the preliminary matches or as some sort of freak show. He says he is coming after the title, and no on in RCW is man enough to stop him.
[end of first hour]
Bout #5:
Gene Kiniski & Larry "the Axe" Hennig defeated Tod Hestrerey & King Tonga by pinfall when Kiniski pinned Hestrery at 9:53
-Kiniski and Hennig had the better of most of the match, especialy against young Hestrerey. But the end came when Hestrerey was holding Kiniski's arms back for Tonga to nail him with a kick and Kiniski ducked. Tod had been standing on the ring apron and had one hand wrapped around Kiniski's waist the other was holding the tag rope and choking out Kiniski. After the botched kick Henning entered the ring illegally and nailed Tonga with the big axe, sending him to the floor. Referee Wyatt Hall correctly ruled that Hestrery was the legal man because he was "tagged" while holding onto the tag rope. He was also totally out cold and it was easy for Kiniski to pull him into the ring and get the 1, 2, 3.
Bout #6
Lumberjack match
12 wrestlers (6 fan favorites, 6 rulebreakers) surroudning the ring
Brad Rheinghans v Steve Olsonoski
Steve O cheated early and often and got the drop on his former friend. However, he could not finish him off so he threw him outside to allow the villians to work him over. This of course ignited a minor brawl outside distracting the ref and allowing Steve O a chance to choke Rheinghans once he was rolled back inside. Eventually Rheinghans turned the match around and returned the favor by throwing Steve O to his pack of wolves. Back inside Steve O managed to avoid certain loss when he blocked an Olympic suplex attempt.
Suddenly Jerry Blackwell came from the back and went right after the 6 fan favorite lumberjacks. He had Rougeau and Kiniski knocked out from behind before anyone could react. He was then going one on one with Larry Hennig while the rulebreaker lumbejracks took the opportunity to go after the remaining 3 good guys 2 on 1.
This distracted Wyatt Hall enough that Steve O was able to nail Brad with a blatant lowblow and then nail a DDT to pick up the tainted victory.
Steve Olsonoski defeated Brad Rheinghans by pinfall after a DDT at 8:54
Post-Match:
Larry Hennig with the help of Gene Kiniski was able to beat Blackwell into a hasty retreat.
Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Return Bout
"Dr. D" David Schultz (champion)
v
Jumpin' Jimmy Brunzell
Brunzell started strong and worked over an arm of Schultz which was a bit of a change from his usual tactic of going after the legs. Schultz tried to sucker Brunzell into fighting out of the ring but Brunzell stayed in the ring and allowed Dr D time to recover and taunt.
Back inside Schultz caught the former champ with a knee to the gut, an uppercut forearm and then a blatant chokehold. He followed this up with several chops, a beil throw, and then a vicious kick to the back. With Brunzell face down on the mat Schultz worked over the back with stomps, knees, and a surfboard. He applied a backbreaker holding it over his knee as a submission. Brunzell though would not submit and fought back with forearms and a pair of dropkicks sending Schultz to the floor. This time Brunzell followed Schultz to the floor but the champ grabbed his title belt from the timekeeper and nailed Brunzell in the head, busting him open and causing the disqualification.
Jim Brunzell defeated David Schultz by disqualification for use of a foreign object at 10:52
[David Schultz retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]
Post-Match:
Schultz continued to beat on Brunzell until Brad Rheinghans came out to help him out. But Schultz went toe to toe with Rheinghans too. Then the behemoth Jerry Blackwell came out once again to stick his nose into the business. He took out Rheinghans and when he went for Schultz too the surprised champ high tailed it out of there. Now Blackwell realized he was alone with a bleeding, barely moving former champion Brunzell, an old nemesis from the AWA. Blackwell smiled and slowly circled Brunzell. He put him in a bearhug and then banged him into the ring apron. He looked to do the same again but Larry Hennig arrived on the scene and went right after Blackwell. Well he managed to beat Blackwell back, the big man from Stone Mountain Georgia said all there needed to be said with a big smile on his face.
That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling.
See ya next week!!

River City Wrestling #186
Brandon, Manitoba
The show opens with a taped promo.
Former RCW champion Jumpin' Jim Brunzell is standing in an empty alleyway. He has a "tough" look to him with a black leather jacket with zippers, acid wash jeans ripped at the knee, dark sunglasses, and a leopard print headband.
He says ever since Dr. D David Schultz arrived in RCW he has been running around like the tough guy beating people up, ignoring the rules, and bullying his way to the title. Well there's only one way to deal with a bully and it isn't with love and flowers. Brunzell says Schultz has something that belongs to him, the RCW Heavyweight title. He tells Schultz that he and the cameraman will be here in this alley in Brandon, Manitoba all night. Marty Goldstein knows where he is, just go ask him, then bring my belt and come to fight. It's easy to bully someone when only the victim is playing by the rules. Out here there are no rules. So bring it tonight and lets see who really is the tougher man.
Opening Bout:
Larry Hennig defeated Black Demon by pinfall after the big axe at 2:47
-squash match
Post-Match:
Hennig says he has unfinished business with Jerry Blackwell. He knows that Brad Rheinghans wants a piece of "Fatwell" first but he'll take what's left of him soon after.

Bout #2
Canadian Women's Title Match
Tawney England defeated Natasha by pinfall after a hairplane spin at 6:49
-great clean match. Natasha made a mistake of going to the top too soon and the champ took full advantage. During the match Corrie came out to scout the match but did not interfere and left right after.
[Tawney England retains the Canadian Women's Title]
Post-Match:
Tawney says Natasha was a great challenger but now its time to move on and defend the title from coast to coast. She mentions Rhonda Singh and her sister Corrie England as being two top contenders she might have to face in RCW soon.
Bout #3
RCW Television Title Match
Billy Robinson banned from ringside
Ben Bassarab (challenger) v Bad News Allen
Allen went right after the champ before the bell even sounded, he seems hungry tonight. The match spilled outside where Allen held the advantage. Back inside Bad News could not seem to put away Ben, with the champ ducking away twice from the set-up for the enzuigiri. When the match went outside again Ben smashed Allen into the ringapron and then monkey flipped him across the announce table and into the crowd. Standing on the announce table Bassarab launched himself onto Allen in the crowd. When Kenny Jay finally got them back in the ring the champ still held the advantage. German suplex, reverse neckbreaker, splash from the 2nd turnbuckle, and then his flying cross body block, for 1, but Allen rolls through it into a pin, 1, ...both men up...double clothesline...both men down. Allen on his feet first, enzuigiri but Bassarab catches most of the attack with his forearms knocking him out of the ring. Allen pulls Bassarab up to the apron by the hair. He tries to pull him into the ring but the champ counters with a hotshot off the top strand. Bassarab climbs to the top turnbuckle, hits a missle dropkick for the 2 count. He tries to get cheeky as Allen tries to get to his feet and hit Bad News with his own enzuigiri finisher, but Allen ducks away. The challenger goes for a roll-up but the champ pulls on his tights for extra leverage, rolls him up and gets the 1, 2, 3.
Ben Bassarab defeated Bad News Allen by pinfall with a roll-up and a handfull of tights at 9:58
[Ben Bassarab retains the RCW Television Title]
Promo;
Dr. D David Schultz comes to the ring in his singlet wrestling attire and his belt. He says that Brunzell doesn't know what he's talking about. Ever since he came to RCW he has said he is the best WRESTLER in RCW, and he proved it by beating Brunzell fair and square for the title. Now Brunzell wants to win his belt back by hurting him. Schultz says if Brunzell wants to do this then come back to the ring and do it like civilized gentlemen not street punks. He says he will be waiting for him here. The fans begin to all "cluck" at Schultz which aggitates him throughout the interview.
Bout #4
Masked Superstar & Super Destroyer defeated Brian Jewel & Man Mountain Mike by pinfall when Destroyer pinned Jewel after a piledriver at 5:02
-squash match
Post-Match:
Ron Strong wants to know what the formible masked duo is doing back in RCW. Are they out to avenge losing the RCW tag tournament final to Lyon & Duncum?
Superstar begins by insulting the fans for a couple of minutes to make sure they understand that they are not fan favorites before saying, yes, they are back for two reasons. One to hurt people. Two, to get the RCW tag titles.
Destroyer points out that by the rules of RCW next week will be the champions last chance to defend their tag titles without going past the 30 day idle rule and being stripped of the belts. Masked Superstar says they will be back next week to collect their titles, one way or another.
Check out the competition! Here is what WCW on TBS was presenting that night.

-a total brawl, in and out of the ring. Wyatt Hall had more then his hands full and after being knocked out was replaced by head official George Gadasky. Finally when Tonga refused to release a chokehold and Kiniski was choked out Gadasky called for the DQ.
Post-Match
Tonga continued to punish Kiniski with a Tongan death grip evne though he was totally blacked out. Miss Hartel was in the ring urging him on. Things seemed to get worse when Tod Hestrerey joined his partners in the ring. Until he dropkicked Tonga in the back!! It didn't really hurt the Tongan monster too much, but it caused him to release the hold and turn around in astonishment and anger. Tod followed up by trying for flying headscissors but Tonga just caught him and slammed him down to the mat. He applied the Tongan Death Grip on Hestrerey until Larry "the Axe" showed up to clear him from the ring.
Interview:
Larry Hennig says he is sick of this crap, and that's why he's come to RCW, to clean it up from bullies like David Schultz, Jerry Blackwel, and Tonga. He says he is going to stay close enough to the ring for the next match so that if Blackwell takes undue liberties with his friend Rheinghans he will be there to set things straight. With that Hennig enters the crowd and a fan gives up his front row seat to the wrestling legend.

Bout #6:
Jerry Blackwell defeated Brad Rheinghans by submission to the bearhug at 7:22
-Rheinghans had some early offense in this match but was soon put down by the pure size and power of Blackwell. The behemoth also showed his uncanny agility by delivering a spectacular standing dropkick. He punished the back of Rheinghans in the corners, with backbreakers, and then finished him with a bearhug. Immediately after the bell he tossed him to the mat like a rag doll and as he looked down on him Larry Hennig hit the ring. The two giant men stared at each other before Blackwell slowly backed away.
[Brad Rheinghans is out with an injured back]

Finale:
Unsanctioned Street Fight
Dr. D came to the ring with his title belt over his shoulder, still in his wrestling gear. He said it was obvious that Brunzell was chicken as he hasn't shown up tonight. With that Schultz announced that RCW would need to find a new #1 contender as he was done with the panty-waist Brunzell.
Suddenly Jim Brunzell came running to the ring. Schultz quickly turned tail and made a break for it into the parking lot. Since this is a taped show we were able to cut away to a camera that caught up with the two men in the parking lot.
Brunzell has the advantage and backs Schultz into a sedan. He climbs onto the roof and comes off with a bulldog onto the concrete. Schultz rolls under the car to avoid Brunzell. Jimmy tries the door of the car and finds it unlocked, the keys are in it. Before he can enter the car though Schultz' hand reaches out and grabs Brunzell's ankle yanking him to the ground. Back on their feet they go right after each other.
Wrestlers and officials begin to flood the scene but both Larry Hennig and Jerry Blackwell are holding back everyone telling them this has to be settled.
Schultz gets the better in the punch-up and then opens the car door slamming it into the head of a kneeling Brunzell. Schultz has been busted wide open from the bulldog on the concrete and now Brunzell too is losing blood from a forehead cut.
Schultz pops the trunk and reaches in for a crowbar.
But before he can finish, Brunzell comes over and slams the trunk door on Schultz' fingers, dropping the crowbar back into the trunk. Brunzell rams Schultz's head onto the trunk of the car.
Marty Goldstein arrives but is held back by Hennig and Blackwell. Goldstein demands that this come to a stop, it has gone far enough. Hennig and Blackwell though continue to maintain the perimeter.
Schultz catches Brunzell with an elbow to the gut and throws him across to another vehicle, bouncing him off the windshield.
Goldstein finally says this has gone far enough and that next week these two will meet one final time in a 30-minute Iron Man cage match for the title. He tells the officials to break it up and if anyone gets in the way they will be suspended from RCW.
Hennig and Blackwell step aside and other officials and wrestlers step in to break up both combatants, which isn't that difficult as they are both bloody and exhausted.
That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling.
See ya next week!!
