Craig Robinson plays a non-violent career criminal (Garland Judkins) who after meeting Tyra, the girl of his dreams, who comes complete with 2 kids and a dog, decides to play it straight, retire from crime, and move to suburban Carroll, Iowa to be with them.
However, his past career will always warp the way he looks at events and people and prevents him from fitting in, and gives his new girlfriend doubts.
To make matters worse Carroll has a population of 10,106, of which 9,999 are white. While the town is not racist, it does make their family stand out and on the defensive; especially around their howdy-doody neighbours the Clarks' (descendents from Lewis & Clark).
guest star for pilot, Stevie Wonder.
The final piece of the puzzle is that his new girlfriend's ex-husband (played by Lionel Richie in guest appearances) who is now in Jail is Garland's former crime boss.
