1.01 - "I Shot A Man in Reno, Just To Watch Him Die"
Randall Zuper wakes up in a Reno, Nevada casino with his head leaning on a slot machine. He is being poked by a Dwarf telling him to play the machine or move on. he wants to play it. Zuper is disoreintated and finally tells the Dwarf that he is going to keep playing it. The dwarf moves on but when Randall taps his pockets he finds he has no change, so he moves on. As he walks away a touristy couple walk up to the machine, plunk a coin in it and win the jack-pot, as lights flash and the siren wails.
This draws a crowd and as Zuper walks away he bumps into a man, and much to Zuper's surprise the man's face registers shock, like he knows Zuper. The man is dressed in a tuxedo and has a $300/hr girl on his arm. Zuper walks away, faster.
Zuper is almost out of the casino when two large security guards grab his arms anyway to throw him out, for no apparent reason. Suddenly a woman screams and points at Zuper, and when the security guards look they see the back of Zuper's shirt is now caked in blood, like his back is bleeding.
After talking into their communication watches they decide it prudent to drag Zuper into the security office and call for an ambulance.
While they are looking away Zuper see's a sealed envelope taped to the bottom of the table and pulls it free, stuffing it into his pocket.
Finally with a minute to think Zuper's mind wanders back to before the slot machine. He remembers desperately trying to stay awake apparently to no avail. In his sleep he is running around a museum, as he hears strange noises as if someone is trying to steal something. He explores the museum and goes into the "paranormal" section where he see's two men dressed in Vac suits removing a 4 foot casket shaped cylinder. They see him and begin to fire a gun at Zuper. Next thing he knows he is being woken by dwarfs poking him.
Back to the security room in the casino Zuper mutters to himself, "I don't have to stay awake, I need to sleep, I need to stop them".
At a mansion of a house, we see Zuper's brother (Rory Cochrane) getting buzzed on something from an aerosal can in his room. In a stoned haze he wanders downstairs and overhears his matriarch Mother telling someone over the phone that Randall has been spoted and apprehended in Reno. She says not to worry, that she has Johnson arriving in a few minutes. The brother leaves the mansion gets into a Dodge Viper and squeals away.
Zuper is taken to a hospital in the ambulance. The attendents ask him if he knows who shot him, but he shakes his head no. They tell him not to worry its just a flesh wound and he'll be fine.
At the hospital they are met by some orderlies, but suddenly a nurse shows up from nowhere. She starts to call Zuper, Jeff Gillies, and says they went to high school together in Santa Ana. He shakes his head no, but he's under an oxygen mask, and getting fired at questions by the orderlies about insurance. The nurse walks away, waving to Zuper.
Into an operating room where a doctor quickly explains the procedure and says they are going to have to put him under with a full anisthetic, so he won't feel anything. Zuper nods his approval. As he is falling asleep he hears the doctor say, "is Mr. Gillis out yet?".
Back to the museum, Zuper sprints to the paranormal exhibits once more. We see this exhibit is about Area 51. Zuper finds the casket to be gone. He begins to search the rest of his mind for any trace but can't find anything. He does however, find a bomb. It's set to go off in two minutes. Zuper grabs it and begins to run, looking to dispose of it. Instead as it ticks down to one second he wakes up with a start in the hospital room.
The man from the casino is in a high rise office tower having an angry conversation with someone on his speakerphone. He thought Zuper was taken care? He wants him out of the picture.
The surgery went fine, but the police are there to ask him some questions. It seems that Mr. Gillis is wanted by the FBI. Zuper tries to explain that he isn't Gillis. An FBI agent (Johnson) walks into the room (Kevin Tighe) and flashes a badge. He says they know that, they know he is Randall Zuper, but they have some questions on why he choose to impersonate Gillis. Zuper tries to explain about the nurse but the agent isn't believing it. Johnson says they intend to hold him on identity theft, so they can question him further, once he has recovered.
That night instead Zuper manages to escape out his window, climbing to the roof of the hospital. He tries to buy a gun from a pawn shop but they can't sell him without ID. Zuper crashes for the night, and in the morning discovers the envelope he stole in the casino has fake ID for Jeff Gillis and some cash. Early in the morning all the pawn shops are closed so Zuper walks into a bank, and opens up a new account. Because he deposits the healthy sum of $10,000 into the account he is shown a small brochure of gifts to choose from. He chooses the handgun but is disapointed when it doesn't come loaded.
Walking down the street he is recognized by a couple of cops and has to evade them in a foot chase.
At nightfall he sneaks into a small aircraft rental place to steal a plane. He is surprised to find a pilot on duty (the dwarf from the casino) (Mikey Post). Zuper produces the gun and disarms the dwarf. He has the dwarf fly him out of Reno at gunpoint. There are a few light moments of comedy as the Dwarf points out the modifications to Zuper that he has made on his plane so he can fly it as a Dwarf. On the radio comes Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues", as the man in black sings out "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die". The Dwarf turns the radio off.
Suddenly Zuper makes up his mind, and puts a parachute on. He leaps from the plane saying goodbye to the pilot who seems to bear him no ill will and remebers him from the casino.
Seconds later the dwarf veers to the left saying to himself, "no way am i going to try and fly over area 51".
Zuper untangles himself from the parachute and taking out a compass begins to walk.
.02 - "Sleep, A Chance to Dream"
Instead of heading towards Area 51 Zuper turns the other way and heads back towards I-95 highway. Finding a solitary tree he settles in for a sleep.
In his mind he roams the warehouse until he finds a morgue. There are two guys dressed in suits and sunglasses trying to remove a body. Zuper gives chase and they flee. But something from the ground reaches up and grabs Zuper by the leg. He wakes with a start to see a snake slithering over his leg.
Johnson is seen heading in his car towards Area 51. He is stopped at the check gate, and despite his credentials the military sends him back.
A Dodge Viper is screaming down I-95 until it reaches the solitary tree where it slams on the breaks. Randall Zuper slides into the car beside his brother Jackie and they head south. Jackie asks him what is going on, but Randall just shakes his head and says he hasnt figured it out yet. Jackie says Mom and the corporation are still looking for you. Randall asks if its Johnson, and Jackie just nods yes. Randall says he can't believe his Mom would do that to him.
Randall and Jackie are on the lam as they head south, and everywhere they stop just makes Randall paranoid and suspicious. He tries to sleep in the car but his brother is jittery and talks non-stop despite Randall saying he needs to sleep to figure this out. Finally they stop at a pharmacy to pick up some cold medicine that Randall hopes will make him sleep.
As they walk out of the store though they find themselves face to face with Johnson.
They try to flee but Johnson kicks Jackie in the knee, taking him out, and then catches Randall from behind in a half nelson. Zuper slams his head back into Johnson's face causing him to bleed, and let go of Zuper. But before the exit can go any further 3 large black SUV's pull up.
Johnson is pissed off that the FBI has arrived as he holds his nose, until the men get out of the SUV's with machine guns and he realizes they are not the authorities. It's too late for resistance though as they are at gunpoint.
They shoot up the Viper and drag Randall into an SUV and tear off.
Jackie asks who those guys were. Johnson acts friendly helping Jackie to his feet and saying they were Israeli intelligence agents. Jackie asks what the Mossad wants with Randall, but Johnson just replies he was hoping Jackie could tell him. When Jackie says he has no clue Johnson apologizes for Jackie's knee. He replies its not too bad, but Johnson says no the other one, and shoots him through the kneecap.
A few local onlookers just stand around in fear. Sirens can be heard as the sherriff is coming, but Johnson steals a black Nova and pulls away.
Randall was knocked out by the Mossad and in his sleep he arrives at the morgue. All the slabs are pulled out and there are about two dozen bodies, but the one that interest him the most is one slab that is empty.
When Zuper wakes up, being slapped by a Mossad agent he is surprised to see the nurse from the hospital (Cheryl Hines) who thought he was Jeff Gillies is there, also bound and gagged.
1.03 - "Grilled to Perfection"
The Mossad take Zuper and the nurse to an abandoned warehouse. The nurse makes it clear to Zuper that they know each other but doesn't seem surprised that Zuper doesn't know who she is. The guards get mad at their talking and duct tape their mouths. Zuper tries to sleep but isn't deep enough to dream, only gets glimpses of a morgue with a body missing.
The Mossad question Zuper about some weapon testing in the desert, something to do with lasers and with his mother's corporation. He doesn't know anything but just to be sure they hold a gun to the nurse's head. Zuper gets frantic but has nothing to say. He tries to make stuff up, wild stories, based on what he saw in his mind. The Mossad get very angry, saying he is playing with them, and promptly shoot the nurse in the head.
Zuper screams, and the lights go out in the warehouse. Gun fire errupts and the next thing Zuper knows, is Johnson is shining a flashlight in his face and untieing him.
Outside they pass several dead guards, and Johnson takes Zuper to a Cadillac, he has ditched the Nova. He grills Zuper on what the Mossad wanted but Zuper can't help him much. Johnson is getting very angry, so when Zuper says he needs to sleep to figure it out, Johnson smiles, says "no problem" and punches his lights out.
Zuper's brother Jackie wakes up from surgery with his Mother looking over him. She grills him on what his brother told him but Jackie is as confused as everyone else. Since she didn't ask where he was Jackie accuses her of kidnapping her own son. An accusation she denies.
Randall Zuper is in his own head. Wandering from room to room, until he decides to leave to a back terrace. Instead it leads to the desert and when he turns to go back inside, the museum is gone. He wanders around until he see's a mushroom cloud in the distance and begins to run that way. Suddenly a large crevice opens in the desert, and he falls inside.
.04 - "There Are no Coincidences in Life, Just Pain"
Zuper wakes up but is restrained, tied to a bed. He hears his Mother talking to Johnson. It's obvious his Mother is in charge, and Johnson says that Randall doesn't know anything, or doesn't remember anything. His mother seems pleased.
They come back and try and console Randall, saying they are going to take him home.
Suddenly Jackie wheels into the room in a wheelchair with a loaded gun. He says he's taking his brother and no one is going to stop him. Johnson though says he doesnt have the guts...and Jackie promptly shoots him in the leg. His Mother looks like she is going to challenge him but he stares her down. She unties Randall, and the two Zuper brothers make their escape in a Ford Mustang.
The brothers piece together what they know. Their Mother's corporation does weapon testing and development for the US military. They know she was also doing a side deal with the Mossad. Somehow Randall stumbled upon some information, something drastic happened to him, and he disappeared for several months. When Randall suddenly reappeared on the radar screen yesterday everyone got crazy.
It was at about this time in the conversation when they were suddenly rammed by a 2 ton truck from behind. A short chase ensued that resulted in both the truck and the Mustang rolling. The Zuper brother began to crawl through the desert before Randall blacked out.
Zuper was back inside his head. He found an intruder putting files back inside a filing cabinet in what looked like his office. He gave chase but after a short footrace he tripped over a midget and knocked himself out.
It was the Dwarf from the casino, waking up Randall. He saw the crash site from the air and decided to land the littel single prop plane he was driving and check it out. He offered to fly Randall anywhere he wanted but Zuper needed to find his brother Jackie first. The Dwarf and Randall looked everywhere but couldn't find a trace of him or the driver of the truck.
Suddenly they saw the Cadillac approaching in the distance and made a run for the prop plane. It was a short race but with Randall's mother driving because Johnson's leg was screwed up from being shot, and his mother not letting Johnson shoot at the plane, they managed to get airborne.
Randall suddenly comes to the suspicion that the constant running into the Dwarf can't be coincidence and tries to figure it out, and then threatens the Dwarf. The two get into a fight that almost causes them to crash, and does cause the Dwarf to land the plane. They can see the outskirts of Vegas in the distance.
The Dwarf pulls out a gun and ties Randall to the plane. He promises to send him some help.
The Dwarf takes off on foot. The sun beats down hard on Randall, and he manages to fall asleep. He has the same dream about the desert but this time he is under attack by Arab mercenaries. He pulls out a light sabre from Star Wars and begins to cut off their heads.
Randall is woken up by his brother Jackie shaking him. Randall is really happy to see Jackie, and in his exhausted state blurts out that he has figured it out. Jackie tries to silence him but its too late. Randall says their Mother has figured out a way to make light sabres. Jackie just laughs in relief but then the laugh disappears. From behind Randall steps the nurse with a gun that she has pointed at Jackie. Randalls says he thought she was dead. The nurse laughs and says maybe she was rescued like Princess Leia.
From the people who brought you "The Cube" & "Push, Nevada", comes the one that will finally push you over the edge.
