River City Wrestling #817
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
January 29, 2000
Dark Matches Before the TV card:
Bout #1
Moses Luke and Balls Mahoney battled to a double countout at 5:22
**premiere of Luke, a young 6'2 350 lb German juggernaut. Balls wanted to make this hardcore and Luke had no problem with that.
Bout #2
Vampiro defeated Chi Chi Cruz by pinfall after the nail in the coffin at 7:05
**Vampiro makes his return to RCW, having dropped the Canadiense from his name. Surprisingly Cruz also returned despite several stories being floated around the internet on how much the rest of the locker room disliked him. Vampiro picks up a big win.
Bout #3
Greg Pawluk & Johnny Devine and the Spinebusters: Jerry Orth & Bryan Caruthers battled to a double countout at 8:53
**yet another double countout where the ring could not contain the action. Devine who joined RCW last year brought in a new partner, Pawluk, from Stampede where they had teamed last year. A very impressive duo and it looked like the accomplished 'Busters wanted nothing to do with a fair fight.
Bout #4
Central States Heavyweight Title Match
Derrick Darkstorm defeated Sam Holiday, Al Hardamann, and Derek Graves (/w Sharon Montgomery) by pinfall when Darkstorm pinned Hardamann after a top rope neckbreaker at 10:37
[Derrick Darkstorm retained the Central States Heavyweight Title]
**Darkstorm returned again to defend his title. He was in trouble throughout the bout as he had a target on his back. However, in the end Graves and Holiday were going at it outside the ring, and with that providing the distraction Darkstorm caught Hardamann by surprise coming off the top to get the duke.
RCW RAGE returns - The One Hour TV Card
A brief video from RCW owner Jack Larkin about the new start and thanking the fans for sticking with RCW through thick and thin. He said that he is taking a step back as he has other business interests to tend to in the dot com sector especially. Now that the world has got through the Y2K scare intact he needs to refocus some of his resources. Larkin says that his first choices to take the helm, in no particular order, were Nick Bockwinkel, Jim Brunzell, and Baron von Raschke. For various reasons however none of the three felt it was in our mutual best interests to accept the position. However, one name came up from all three men to be a man who had a great idea of how to run an old school wrestling show that could still hook viewers. That man was offered the position and he has accepted. The new Commissioner of River City Wrestling will be none other than Greg Gagne!
Highlights of the 20th Anniversary show from last year including SAWF champion Linley Tolbert defeated Bobby Duncum Jr to win the RCW title.
Gary Goodridge held on to the TV title in an emotional fatal 5 way elimination match.
Lord Zoltan was unveiled as the leader of the Indy Crew.
Road Warriors made a triumphant return to RCW taking the tag belts from Tatanka & Vic Grimes.
Strawberry Fields rejuvenated the North American Women's title and defeated Nikki Kixxx.
Announcer Joe Aiello comes to the ring and introduces the new Commissioner of River City Wrestling, Greg Gagne!! The former High Flyer gets a nice ovation from the older members of the audience who remember him fondly for the most part from his AWA days. Gagne says some basic things about RCW being back, and when he took the reins from Brunzell and Bockwinkel they talked about restoring real wrestling to the company.
However, Gagne says that tonight he has the unappealing task of telling the audience something that they may not have heard. A couple days ago former RCW champion Bobby Duncum Jr passed away, too young at just 34 years of age. Gagne talks about wrestling his father Bobby Duncum Sr and how proud everyone was of Junior and his old school mentality to the business. On a related note tonight, as is a tradition in River City Wrestling, on the first show of the year, we are scheduled to hand out the awards for last year 1999.
The award committee had their choices in a couple weeks ago, so rest assured that the recent tragedy did not effect this. Their choice for Wrestler of the Year, and a most fitting and well deserved one, is none other than Bobby Duncum Jr. Rest in peace.
Opening Bout
#1 Contenders Match
TrummerFrauen v Nikki Kixxx v Becky Hennig v Sheona Stewart
**Kixxx, Hennig, and Stewart have all appeared for RCW before. Of these three Kixxx is the most legit contender and a former champ, but she also already had a shot at the title at the Anniversary show and lost.
TrummerFrauen is new to RCW. She is reminiscent of Emma Bezzlerr, short, muscular, but unlike Bezzlerr there is no glamour to her game. TrummerFrauen, from the German TrummerFrau was the term used for German woman who had to clean up and reconstruct bombed out cities in Germany after WWII. With so many men dead or in prison, it was left to the women to work 9 hour days for basically food stamps. They began to fashion clothes out of the rags they found in burned out cities. This woman oozes resentment and power.
TF kind of played it coy, and after a few exchanges that they ended up on the wrong side of the others seemed to prefer to leave her alone; until Hennig and Stewart teamed up on her. This was not an elimination match. TF threw Stewart over the top rope and then nailed Hennig with a sitout powerbomb, 1, 2, Kixxx broke it up with a sidekick to the head of TF who dropped like a rock. Kixxx covered TF, 1, 2, kickout. Kixxx then tossed TF out of the ring, nailed Hennig with a superkick and covered her for the win.
[Nikki Kixxx defeated TrummerFrauen, Becky Hennig, and Sheona Stewart by pinfall when she pinned Hennig after a superkick at 7:23]
**Kixxx will receive her title shot against Strawberry Fields in two weeks at the first all-women's show of the year.
Annual Awards
A video package is presented to show the winners of the various year end awards. As most of the winners are not here tonight there is no in-ring ceremony.
Woman of the Year: Mistress Gloom
Manager of the Year: Mistress Gloom
Tag Team of the Year: The Extremists: Ace Darling & Devon Storm
Feud of the Year: The Alliance vs The Family.
We were told that Nick Mercury was on hand representing the former Alliance, and that Lord Zoltan, Manny Silva, Derek Graves, and Sharon Montgomery were on hand to represent the Family (who are no longer together after the reveal of Zoltan's double dealings with the Indy crew). However, because the wounds are still fresh, and because of the upcoming Battle Draw it is not wise to have any of them come accept an award.
Match of the Year: Sep 12: RCW #810 (IronMan 99); RCW Heavyweight Championship Match
Bobby Duncum Jr (champion) defeated Steve Corino by pinfall after a chairshot to the throat at 28:48

5:37 Out Tony Gold (elim. Hawk)
6:00 Draw in #8 Kurrgan
**Kurrgan and Hawk go right at each other while Graves tries to fight off Holiday and Hardamann. Kurrgan has Hawk on the edge, and Hardamann goes over but instead of helping Hawk he tries to help eliminate Hawk. It doesn't work and he may pay for that mistake later.

**Vamp joins in the fun and helps eliminate Hawk
14:30 Out Hawk (Caruthers, Orth, Vampiro)
14:38 Out Reckless Youth (elim. Holiday)

**In comes the other Warrior and he is pissed after Hawk was eliminated. He goes right after both 'busters while Holiday and Hardamann catch their breath.

17:00 Draw in #19 Derrick Darkstorm
**The Central states champ went right after Holiday/Hardamann. He is joined by Vampiro and Grimes, and it's 3 on 2. It's also 2 on 1 as the Busters duke it out with Animal.
18:00 Draw in #20 Nick Mercury

18:33 Out Vic Grimes (Mercury, Hardamann)
19:00 Draw in #21 Chi Chi Cruz
**Pretty much everyone in the ring goes right after Cruz, at least all the RCW guys
19:40 Out Chi Chi Cruz (Mercury, Holiday, Hardamann)
19:52 Out Jerry Orth and Animal (each other)
**Orth finally goes but he takes Animal with him. The two continue to brawl after the elimination, and are joined by their tag partners. The brawl distracts all the refs, and Manny Silva rolls into the ring and uses a steel chair to lay out Holiday, Hardamann, and Mercury. It looks like he would have taken out Darkstorm and Vampiro too but they tackled him and threw him over the top rope. But he wasn't a legal man (yet). Chaos reigned as Balls Mahoney entered the ring and went right after Vamp and Dark.
20:00 Draw in #22 Balls Mahoney

The challengers went right after the Road Warriors, showing no fear, attacking them before the opening bell. It was a slobberknocker and it was a credit to this throw together team that they managed to last as long as they did.
